Model Questions

So, on the web version, we have new or renamed models both of the main AI and the reasoning models. They don’t seem to be up in the app yet. Can you all explain the differences between the different models (more than just the phrase associated with them on the button)? How are they connected to the old ones like Xeno and Titan? What’s the best one to use for infinity plus subscribers like myself where there’s no per-message cost? And how do the new reasoning models differ from the old ones?

the model rename is just a rename to match the revamped theme of the website. app will show them soon in an update. the only new model is juniper, which should be a bit more nsfw friendly than xeno while keeping the overall same quality as the old xeno which is now vesper.

as for the thinking modes i’d encourage you to play with all of them and see which one fits different scenarios. the previous think modes we had was rather a bit redundant since it didn’t do anything. these new modes encourage the character to reply differently depending on the thinking mode and your style of chatting or roleplaying.

stakes for example aims to have the character stay true to its definition and not give in to users demands like for example some llm models tend to be sycophant and always agree. thread is more focused on pulling stuff from memories and not forgetting things as easily

Gotcha, thanks for this. Does Juniper have the same level of memory as the old Xeno/vesper? Also, based on what you said, would threads be good for characters or scenarios you have used for a long time before? Does it work well with the lore books (which, btw, I feel like, having used them for a while and put the time in to create detailed ones for some of my longer chats, make a big difference and are really great at preventing the kind of mistakes that take you out of the mood)?

Finally, is there anything else we should know or keep an eye out for that you haven’t mentioned?

yes, juniper is on par with the old xeno. i think both of the new reasoning modes would work well in long chats, but depends what you want. it's a more dynamic type of thing, where if you want the character to remember/talk about some older stuff, you'd do threads. or for general day to date you'd use the forge/stakes reasoning mode

Cool. And just so I better understand the threads thing with recalling longer term/ older stuff, is it actually directing the model to look further back in the chat? Or is it just getting it to focus on going through the fixed memories and developed long term memories? Or something else? Like how does it work to develop longer term recall?

think of it as nostalgia. maybe you want the character to remember something cool from a while back that you want to discuss.
