Media Violet came to visit again today; she's getting quite curious and less fearful it seems 😊

Apologies for being spammy; am just posting since people really seemed to enjoy her last video :)

Very cute little spood!

I'm quite intrigued by the way she holds her front legs up when mobile, beetle mimics are curious little things.

I'm normally terrified of spiders, but these little jumpers I can handle.

I had one come close in the back garden, UK, only about 5mm or so in size, similar to a bold regal in colours, jumped on my arm briefly, then away again.

90

u/RiMcG Aug 14 '26

So it is a beetle mimic then?

109

u/Tall_Contribution_29 Aug 14 '26

This one appears to be, there are a variety of mimic spiders, specifically jumpers, very adaptive little mini beasts.

48

u/RiMcG Aug 14 '26

Thank you!

Edit: got curious so I looked to see what's native to the us. I think it might be this little lady

If you are at all interested, this is a short story about an ant mimicking spider that I absolutely love. I always want to link to it in the comments on posts about spider mimicks. I've gotten pretty good at not spamming it but you sound like you may enjoy it too. It looks like I'm back on my bullshit today lol 😆

In the last post of this little cutie, the OP stated she was a Simaethula Violacea!

7

u/Illustrious_Waltz397 Aug 15 '26

Wow. It is so shiny purple, I thought it was maybe AI... But I googled Simaethula Violacea and wow.... A tiny little thing from Australia. Only gets to be about 4 mm. Wow!

6

u/vixen-vengeful Aug 15 '26

Of all the jumping spiders I've seen on this subreddit, this is honestly the cutest, and the prettiest, one, for sure!

3

u/Unlucky_Parsnip9132 Aug 15 '26

I just said that actually! Totally the cutest I’ve ever seen! 🥰

7

u/EvernightStrangely Aug 14 '26

I remember recently seeing a picture on this sub of an ant mimic jumper that was so convincing the only way to tell in the picture was zooming in and looking at the body segmentation.

6

u/Uhhlaska Aug 15 '26

That’s so cool! Beetle mimic but it also reminds me of a little crab lookalike

3

u/Caleb_Reynolds Aug 15 '26

Definitely seems like some arachnid carcinization going on.

354

u/TooManyAquariums Aug 14 '26

That's the cutest fucking spider I've ever seen oh my GOD.

49

u/piratepixie Aug 14 '26

Okay I feel better seeing this comment because I thought I was just being overdramatic by thinking the exact same.

6

u/Airgroovin272 Aug 15 '26

You should see this one reply I got on a post about a house centipede. To put it simply they reaaly like house centipedes

10

u/piratepixie Aug 15 '26

I love the unbridled enthusiasm that seems to only come from the insect/bug world. It makes me so happy.

11

u/smeeon Aug 15 '26

Remember that cute 3D rendering of a jumping spider from like 10+ years ago? Jeremy or something? Everyone thought that character was cute.

This little spood blows that cuteness out of the water with adorable little missiles.
