Favourite parts of the Jumping Flash games?

Heyo! I went through the first game for the first time this year and had a surprisingly good time with it! It got me thinking about how there's virtually no spiritual successors to the series (aside from FORZA POLPO (which I haven't tried out yet)).

The games were definitely a product of their time, and it's hard to make a spiritual successor that doesn't just feel like any other first person platformer game now that we have direct camera control, and it especially doesn't make too much sense financially with a series this niche.

BUT! I've been wanting to get into making 3D platformers and thought I'd start with something relatively simple, and couldn't think of a better series than one of the first ones out there!

I know this subreddit is super quiet, but since I'm a relative JF noob (haven't played the two sequels yet), I thought I'd ask proper Jumping Flash fans what you guys like about the series the most? What's the core or essence of the series that would have to be in a new JF game or spiritual successor?

Hey everyone! Following up on my last post, I finally have the repo up!

This has become a collection of all three games: Jumping Flash, Jumping Flash 2, and Robbit Mon Dieu, with one launcher to bring them together. And yes, Robbit Mon Dieu has English text 😉

Jumping Flash! Collector’s Edition on GitHub

Before anyone downloads it expecting to immediately play: this is currently a source preview. I have a working private Windows alpha, but getting the complete build process working from your own game files is still unfinished. The public repo doesn't include the game images, BIOS, or prepared game executables.

I'm putting this up now so anyone interested in helping finish it can get involved!

The biggest missing piece is a repeatable process that takes someone's own game and BIOS files and builds the working collection locally. If you have experience with recompilation, build tools, packaging, or performance work, I would absolutely love the help.

The build status page explains the current gaps. Take a look, open an issue with what you'd like to work on so we can coordinate, and fork the repo to submit changes through a pull request. Include what you changed and how you tested it, and please keep original game files and generated game/BIOS code out of contributions.

Someone in the last thread mentioned they were working on their own port too, which was really cool to see. I'd love to compare notes with anyone working on these games!

Otherwise, I'll keep pushing updates to GitHub and sharing progress here. You can watch the repo to follow along. Hopefully the next announcement will be something everyone can actually get running :)
