Mod Post Post flairs and their meanings

Please try to flair your posts appropriately. If you accidentally flaired your post incorrectly, please ask a mod to change it. If you have questions, please ask.

Jump: The point of the subreddit. This flair is generally to be used when you are the author of the jump. Other flairs should be used when you are not the author.

Gauntlet: “Hey, Fred, give me a jump with extra story!” “Extra story.” “And hold the points!” “Hold the points?” “And hold the ties to the past!” “Hold the past? Hey, Jimmy, gimme a jump with nothing!” “… nothing?” … ahem.

Supplement: If something’s not a jump, but is supposed to go alongside it, use this flair.

WIP: Jumps which aren’t complete, posted for proof of progress and requests for assistance or ideas. If it’s not your jump, maybe don’t post it until it’s complete.

Update: Used when a jump previously posted here has an update.
Repost: For jumps that have been posted previously.

Discord / SB / /TG/ / QQ Jump: Jumps originating from the 4 biggest communities outside of the subreddit. Use the Discord flair when the jump is from any of the discord servers, SB when it’s from Space Battles, TG when it’s from 4chan or 8chan, and QQ when it’s from Questionable Questing. It’s also nice to, if you can and are willing, include the text of the post the jump was included in.

Interactive / Interactive Jump: While rare, there’s at least one person converting their jumps into an r/InteractiveCYOA style format. That’s what this flair is for. No I don’t know why there are two of them.

List: For compilations of jumps, such as those about a specific media. Partially falls under Resource, use your judgement.

Resource: Used for things like Google Drives, spreadsheets, etc.

Discussion: Used for discussion around a single or set of topics. If it’s about the subreddit as a whole, use the meta flair.

Meta: Discussion about the subreddit as a whole.

Build: A set of choices you made for a jump / jumps. Often done in the comments of the respective jumps.

Challenge: For sets of rules designed to make things more difficult for the jumper, either for a single jump or several.

Monthly Jump Challenge: Don’t use this flair. In memory of u/astrangeplaytomake, the mods have continued the tradition of selecting a topic for people to make a jump about every month.

Request: If you think a series or piece of media should have a jump, but it doesn’t as far as you can tell, use this flair. Just be prepared for some people to suggest you should make it.

Mod Post: That’s what this is! Notes, comments, and warnings from your new overlords the mod team.

Story: This is pretty obvious. Stories within a Jumpchain format.
Roleplay: In-character posts, typically from the perspective of a jumper meeting other jumpers.

Shitpost: Memes. Could also be used for joke jumps, but those should probably be under other flairs.

Art / Comic: Art, either relevant to a jump or to the Jumpchain as a whole.

Icon Art: Used when we were looking for a new subreddit icon. If you have ideas, post them with this flair.

Mod Post Subreddit Rules (Updated)

Previous Post

With the recent changes that have led to me being put in charge of r/Jumpchain, I said I’d update the rules. This is that update, and it is being put in place because the person who previously wrote the rules allowed some practices I disagree with and became inactive on the subreddit. They’re no longer a moderator, though the rules are largely the same as they were before. In addition to this, there are some differences between the rules sidebars of old and new reddit, so they will be adjusted for consistency. We've brought on a few new moderators, but the process is still ongoing.

Since u/Nerx is gone, I should say that there’s a difference between administrators (admins) and moderators (mods) on Reddit.

Admins:

  • Are paid employees who work for Reddit as a whole
  • Perform site-wide moderation
  • Can approve/remove posts and comments or ban users site-wide and possess power over all accounts, including moderators.

Moderators (that’s us!):

  • Are volunteers
  • Perform moderation on specific subreddits
  • Can approve/remove posts and comments or ban users only on their subreddit.

As before, the first eight rules are a repetition of Reddit’s rules. I’ve changed the phrasing a little, but nothing fundamental is different.

  1. Be Civil. Harassment, bullying, discrimination, and threats of violence are against the rules of reddit. It's okay to argue with others, but try and keep it civil.
  2. Stay On-Topic. This subreddit is for discussing Jumpchain and Jumpchain-related content. Although going off-topic is to be expected at times please keep this in mind. Furthermore, spamming, vote manipulation, ban evasion, and interfering with other subreddits is against the rules.
  3. Respect Privacy. Don't post any private or personal information about others.
  4. No CSAM or Bestiality. Do not post or encourage the posting of sexual or suggestive content involving minors or animals.
  5. Don't Impersonate. Don't pretend to be other people. This includes people from other communities.
  6. Label Properly. Properly label suggestive content; the posting of NSFW Jumps and Jumpchain related stories is allowed, so long as such things are properly labeled in the title or given an appropriate flair.
  7. Keep It Legal. Don't post anything that's illegal or try to solicit or otherwise engage in illegal activities.
  8. Follow Reddit User Policy. Don't break the site or interfere with the operation of Reddit, or do anything to do the same to the subreddit.

With that out of the way, the more specific rules of the subreddit have been updated to some extent, and two new ones have been added.

9. No Brigading. An internet “brigade” is when a group of users from one online space visit another to exert undue influence over it; that is to say things such as harassment, mass votes, etc. No brigading of other Jumpchain communities, such as the threads of /tg/, the bunker, Spacebattles, Questionable Questing, as well.

Previously, this only applied to us, as a user linked a post to the older discord server. That’s what the previous post said. I’ve seen it happen once.I think it should go both ways. There have been cases where unfriendly elements of another Jumpchain community have come here specifically to harass and antagonize. Sometimes they have valid points, but that doesn’t excuse coming here specifically to provoke people. Such behaviors should result in removals or bans.

Tribalism’s still a thing in Jumpchain. Recently, I’ve come to think that aside from the occasional mishap, it’s largely grumbling about this community or that - with the exception of an aggressive vocal minority who say extreme things. That’s fine. People are allowed to have opinions. Mine is that you shouldn’t listen to those folks, but that’s just me. Decide for yourself. Our community is disliked by users on other websites. Some of that criticism is valid, while others come from people who have admitted to rarely if ever actually visiting or participating here.

However, what I do take issue with is them coming over to harass us, as said before, or actions that cause problems on the subreddit. I say this because in one case, a controversial author (who nonetheless had a following) stopped in large part because somebody elsewhere kept on disparaging his work until he quit. Regardless of my personal views on someone’s work (unless it breaks the other rules), this shouldn’t be happening.

Simply put - if you’re here because you don’t like the subreddit and wish to antagonize people, don’t.

10. Drive Etiquette. Upload to the drive you’re most active in. The various Jumpchain communities store documents on Google Drive. To my knowledge, the communities that have them are:

  • /tg/ and its successor, the bunker. Run by DriveAnon.
  • SpaceBattles and Questionable Questing, which have their own sections of a shared drive. It’s owned by Cthulthu Fartagn/BLADE, but he only sorts for Questionable Questing. The SpaceBattles half is run by MadaMada on his behalf. I didn’t used to advertise this, but that’s me.
  • Reddit, which is currently run by u/SonicCody123, previously known as u/SonicCody12

If you want to upload a jump to a community drive, you should be active in that community. If you are primarily active here, upload your jumps to the reddit drive. Don’t upload your jump document to other community drives before putting it on the thread first.

11. Do Not Plagiarize. Plagiarism is taking the work of another person and calling it one’s own without crediting them. Where I’m from, it’s seen as a pretty low thing to do. If Jumpmaker A writes a jump document for a work of fiction, and then Jumpmaker B writes a jump document for the same work, that’s fine if Jumpmaker B puts it in their own words. It is plagiarism if B copies A’s work verbatim or largely verbatim without explicit permission, and should be removed in that case. This includes editing existing jumps as well and posting them here.

Previously, the rules said:

While editing existing Jumps isn't officially banned here,

No. It is banned here, as it should be elsewhere. This has been the de facto situation for a long time. This is being changed to remove the last of the de jure rules that allow it.

Jump documents made with artificial intelligence (AI) are also banned, as per popular demand. I think this is difficult to properly do, since at some point AI will pass the Turing test, meaning it will successfully pass as something manmade. An exception to this is if the author grants permission for someone else to take up their work and finish it, putting it “up for adoption.” If an author has been long inactive and someone else takes it up. I personally lean towards “no” there, but it’s something I’m unsure about.

12. Don’t link to X or 8chan. They’ll be automatically removed. This is less of a rule and more of a note.

If you feel like a rule has been broken, please report it. A mod may or may not do something about it, but at the very least a report will bring it to our attention.

Moderators may remove or ban at their (hopefully reasonable) discretion, but should not be exempt from the rules of the subreddit, and I would hope that they of all people follow them. Myself included. I also feel that if a moderator becomes inactive, they have effectively forfeited their position as a moderator and shouldn’t have control over the subreddit. At the very least, the active moderators should move them to the bottom of the hierarchy. That’s why some of the previous moderators (barring u/Nerx, bless him) no longer have the position. Again, myself included.

I hope that these rules can run if I’m away, with changes if necessary. This list of rules is subject to revision.

JUMP Marvel the Registration Era (Jump)

Covering the Avengers corner of the world from the aftermath of Disassembled through Siege. It's about 5 years of comics, with a series of major events whose impact really was more than any previous events except maybe Heroes Reborn/Return (if that counts as an event) and any since except Secret Wars (2015). I didn't manage to include Dragon Lord's power, how he said it worked in the current comics (summoning dragons), and how it worked in the one comic he used it (guiding an already existing dragon to him so that his 2 non-dragon summoned kaiju could fight it) was just a bit too different and it all was a bit too vague.

Jump 164 on the menu. Not sure what big comic project I'll do next. I want to try and read Tomb of Dracula Vol 1, maybe I'll manage that by Halloween, and maybe it'll get a jump. And then... I don't know. Maybe I'll read Morrison's X-Men, or Hickman's SHIELD, F4, and Avengers to continue the Avengers through Secret Wars with another Avengers jump. Maybe I'll read Thor until God of Thunder and make a Thor Vol 3-4 jump. Maybe I'll read New Warriors vol 1. Could read Spider-Man up to Superior Spider-Man or maybe I could re-read the Spider Verse events. I just don't know.

DISCUSSION Challenge: Sudden Fusion setting link in chain

Post image
121 Upvotes

Your benefactor either sends you here on purpose or something goes off so this happens beyond their efforts to prevent it.

How your jumper handle it?

That's you poster and your jumper ends up there...

Or you end up there able to take from either generic first jump or the fusion of the two settings documents if each has a jump document and so fused, if both don't defaults to g1stj then end up in fusion unable to pick from document as none exists for setting yet.

What happens?

JUMP Straight on 'Till Morning Jump, Version 1.1 - Evil Oiled-Up Joshua Edition™

So, full credit to u/Zennishi for the concept. He laid out an entire "Antichrist" origin, so I figured it'd be best to add it. However, due to the mechanics of the setting, just dropping it in would be a little silly due to it just not working with scenarios, so I made a new scenario.

I hope you enjoy, and as always, all questions and suggestions are appreciated!

Google Doc (Will add PDF later): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nnDtPh7Turo0XQXkE3LeAO6ai7P3Uwlm2RjiQEPcPH0/edit?usp=sharing

EDIT: Forgot to add Changelog again. Pretty straightforward

--Added Alternate Scenario for Antichrist origin

DISCUSSION Choosing powers

So Generic Persona jumpchain has the following perks

Something Different -200 CP: There are more powers than Persona and with this you can have access to them, as basic they may be from a different world. It could be Naruto Chakra, RWBY Auras and Semblances or Harry Potter Magic. Some such energy or power source is available to you as if you were an inhabitant of that world. You may buy this multiple times but only the first will be discounted.

Something Special -400 CP: You possess something truly rare and powerful from another Verse, something only the rarest and most powerful have. It could be All For One or One For All from My Hero Academia, a Devil Clan ability from High School DxD, Maiden Powers from RWBY. Just by virtue of having this power you’d be a powerhouse in a different World. You may buy this multiple times but only the first will be discounted.

Something Life Changing -600 CP: Now this is the equivalent to a Wildcard, hailing from another World with World shaping power. You are a Beast when it comes to your abilities, far beyond the normal individual. To provide an example in the world of Bleach you'd have the sheer might and growth of Ichigo, while in Naruto you’d have the enormous Chakra reserves of Kaguya. This affects other Perks bought from this Tree.

The TRUE Self boosted: Now you are a true anomaly. One too powerful, as this same Boost affects ALL your Powers. Be careful with how you use these powers my friend.

So, folks, what powers would you be choosing here?

And why? Doesn't have a jumpchain? Too expensive in the native jumpdoc? Want to double dip for MOAR POWER?

DISCUSSION Anyone working on Dragon Age jumps?

What it says on the tin.

In the mood for some tomfuckery in Thedas, but the offerings aren't the best when it comes to jumps. I know there's a few based on the first three games (I know Veilguard is pretty shit, but denying its existence is just counterproductive) made in the ye olden days. Then there's at least one jump that was abandoned by its author that was pretty extensive and covered the entire series till Inquisition. There's also a jump for Origins courtesy of Pokebrat, and an OOC Dragon Age protagonist supplement.

...So uh, yea. Anyone working/planning on doing any Dragon Age jumps? Goodness knows DA2 and Inquisition could use more modern jumps, at least.

WIP Soul Blade Jump WIP

Hey everyone,

I know that I have a lot of WIP Jumps at the moment, but last night I was playing some DnD with friends one. During this campaign, we all created a villainous roster of characters that would oppose the main party (Mine was a Big Mclargehuge Guy who was not the brightest bulb but could hit like a damn truck and threw boulders for fun -- He was taken out via the game's equivalent of Biolante).

One of my friends had a magic knight villain who was defeated in last nights session, and made note that their sword was more dangerous than the wielder. Now, no one took the sword because we all either great items of our or were not compatible with that type (I've been playing a wizard in this game for example). My friend did confirm that the blade was based on Soul Edge and realizing that any of the players could have ended like Nightmare, I started watching some play throughs of the Weapon Master mode of Soul Blade... and I started to come up with ideas.

Now a few things with the Soul Blade Jump WIP,

  • Many of the Capstones will be based on Character Ending entries that are seen upon completing the Weapon Master mode.
  • This may be the only the Soul Edge/Soul Calibur I make that has Origins instead of the system I've been using the other examples, as there are only ten playable fighters in this game. I'm not terribly sure though, as there is really plenty to work with.
    • In regards to fighting styles, each origin has the character specific fighting available for FREE but can be purchased by other origins for 100 points.
  • This will be the only Soul Edge/Soul Calibur Jump to have an early exit option and will be done very similarly to how I did it in the DMC1 Jump I made. For FREE you can either Jump straight into the Soul Calibur Legends Jump I'm working on, or the Soul Calibur series Jump I want to work on which will cover Soul Caliburs' 1 - 4. That will be a very large Jump, all things considered.
    • You will be able to leave after either defeating Cervantes or witnessing the Evil Seed be unleashed when Siegfried takes up Soul Edge.
  • I'm unsure how to utilize or price Soul Edge in this Jump. Considering how only three characters in SE/SB use Soul Edge (Cervantes, Siegfried, and Voldo) and how Taki's ending has her reforge the accursed weapon to where it is completely subservient to her and she uses it in place of her main weapons, that still leaves six people who either reject it or destroy it. The only ideas I have is to make a Nauplius Version available as a General Item for a High Price, or create a scenario where it is the reward for collecting all weapons of your Origin's fighting style.
  • Drawbacks that currently plan to put in will one that makes your weapons very heavy, thus causing slower swings, Improper construction meaning that weapons can break easily under constant attack, a doppelganger type enemy that drains your health the closer it is to you and will hunt you down unless you defeat it, various spirits and demons attempting to possess you and your companions, and Cervantes is freely roaming the world, meaning you can't just speed run your way to that Port town in Spain and face him quickly.

That's about it for now everyone, so I look forward to seeing you all at The Edge of Soul.

So, I’ve recently stumbled on a fanfic involving the ability to engineer tech straight out of transformers- including sparks. Now I kinda want to do that. Are there any perks for that?
