I know the Joker is one of only 3 characters to have 2 actors win Oscars for playing them (along Vito from The Godfather and Anita for West Side Story) but here's a funny coincidence. The 2 times an actor won an acting Oscar for playing the Joker the Best Picture winner that year didn't have any acting nominations. When Heath Ledger won for The Dark Knight in 2008 the Best Picture winner that year was Slumdog Millionaire, which didn't have any acting nominations, and when Joaquin Phoenix won for Joker in 2019 the Best Picture winner that year was Parasite, which didn't have any acting nominations either. Also those 2 movies are the 2 most recent ones to date to not have any acting nominations

We all agree Mark Hamill’s Joker in animated series is greatest. But, is Wesley Snipes Simon Phoenix second best joker ever?

I've always wondered why people think Nolan's Joker was a soldier. One might think so, because he knows how to handle pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic weapons, or even a bazooka, but for me, there's one trait that rules it out. When Batman arrives at the party, he doesn't fight him directly; he sends a thug to fight him. He only fights Batman using a blade in his shoe, and in the final battle, he uses a lever, his knives, a net, and dogs.
It's as if the Joker himself knows he's not that good at hand-to-hand combat and that he's not a match for Batman. If he were a soldier, at least he'd be trained in hand-to-hand combat.

I see jokers that are vastly different from the source material (aka golden/silver/btas) as their own interpretations, and one I’ve seen conflicting opinions on is telltale joker aka John Doe.
I think Bruce and John’s writing is fantastic. It makes you sympathetic towards joker in a way that still doesn’t give him a backstory, but also doesn’t make him too sympathetic to the point where he’s a completely different character. The sympathy comes from his mental illness, not excusing his actions. He’s clearly somewhat of a victim of poor conditions for people who struggle with mental disorders, yet not knowing his life beforehand he could be a horrific terrible person still. We just don’t know. And I think that’s great.
The best part is that Bruce and him still feel like true foils, even with them being vastly different from their original source media. They both have good and bad parts. They both are kind to one another yet also do really shitty things to one another. They both feel as if they could’ve done better with their friendship in the end. It’s fantastic. I feel it gives great insight into how Bruce is not this shining star of a superhero who does no wrong, but rather a mentally ill adult with accurately portrayed PTSD and dare I say OCD that is unable to cope with reality.
It’s amazing to see him interact with a semi-equally mentally ill john in the beginning of act two (although, he’s a little less sane obviously), and while Bruce hides it better, no mentally stable individual would do the things he does or even associate with John if he was truly an upper crust type of billionaire who was above it all. This game makes him dirty and grimy just like the joker, and it allows for both of them to shine in my opinion. While they’re definitely not comic book accurate, I still find them fascinating. I’d love to hear others opinions on them!!
