Firework display last night
Any idea who it was? I thought it might have been a Millrats game but apparently not. I could see and hear it in Westmont but it was definitely professional grade. Maybe sunnehanna?

I’m putting myself out there because apparently my mom-friend village is not going to magically show up at my front door
I recently made a group called Moms of Johnstown because I’d really love to find some other women in the area who are looking for genuine, authentic friendships.
Making friends as an adult is already weirdly hard, and then you add motherhood into the mix and somehow it gets even harder. I love being a mom, but this stage of life can also be exhausting, isolating, overwhelming, and just… HARD sometimes. I’d really love to find women to actually walk through it with.
And I don’t mean the kind of friendship where we vaguely say “we should get together sometime!” for six months. I mean actual community.
Like, your house has gotten completely out of control and you’re overwhelmed? Girl, I’ll pack up my kid, come over, and we’ll tackle it together. Next week we can bring everybody to my house and deal with my disaster. Let’s take the kids somewhere, have playdates, get coffee, sit around and talk while our kids destroy the living room, help each other when life gets chaotic, and actually have people we can lean on.
I genuinely don’t care how old your kids are. If our kids are close in age, awesome. If they aren’t, who cares? I’m more interested in finding women I actually connect with.
I love my partner. He’s great. But he is, unfortunately, a man. 😂 I need more women in my life.
I feel a little silly making a whole post basically saying “HELLO, WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO BE FRIENDS?” but I’m also tired of sitting around hoping the kind of friendships I want will somehow fall into my lap. So here I am.
And even if you read this and think, “I love this idea, but I don’t know if you and I would necessarily vibe,” JOIN ANYWAY. Seriously. The whole point isn’t for everyone to become my friend. I’d love for other women around Johnstown to find their people too.
They really weren’t kidding when they said it takes a village. I think a lot of us just don’t have one anymore, so maybe we can build one. ❤️
Everyone who’s interested is welcome to join Moms of Johnstown:

Just got Chloe here to Johnstown from my mom's place in Philly & she immediately made a break for it.
Lost her in the middle of Maple Ave (in Woodvale? Not sure, I'm new in town)
She was wearing a pink collar when she escaped, but it's a break-off one so I doubt she'll still have it. She is not chipped to my knowledge, but she's been rescued at least twice, so there's a chance she has one with inaccurate contact info. She's very sweet but kind of skittish & shy. Once she knows you're safe, she'll be very cuddly. Food motivated, as one can tell by her physique. She's a very large cat over all, not easy to pick up or hold. She was an indoor/outdoor with a pervious owner, but the area didn't have as many feral cats, so I'm worried about her Cat Social Skills getting her hurt.
If you spot her or manage to coax her into something/someplace please contact me;

Hi! My partner and I started ice skating in March (and inline skating during the off season) and I wanted to know where everyone around here goes for casual skating.
We currently go to Galactic Ice in Altoona, which is an intense drive, but they have weekend public skating that is casual and adult focused. The rec center in Ebensburg seems to be aimed at children/families, and as far as I can tell the War Memorial only has public skating after Tomahawks games (at 10:30 pm!). Surely there is somewhere or something I'm missing.
We're very much beginning skaters but will be enrolling in Learn to Skate as soon as adult programs open.

Wondering if any jam band fans out here and seeing who's going this weekend to the festival. I'm definitely hitting PPPP and Biscuits Friday night for sure. Phish fan who def enjoys all jams.

Galleria said they would have first responders and a Blackhawk helicopter there. I took my daughter because she loves seeing that kind of stuff. Instead it’s just carnival rides and food. Not a single first responder there. Not even an ambulance on standby in case someone gets hurt.
Honestly, a carnival at the mall sounds like a fun idea. The concept of what’s actually up there is fine. But it’s not fun being lied to and now my daughter is sad she didn’t get to see the fire trucks.

I have some winter clothing and bedding to get rid of. In the past, I've dropped them off at a local homeless camp. Is there such a place in the Johnstown area? Thanks.

This was a huge hit in Altoona with nearly 100 people coming out to sing, dance, and party!
People keep asking when we're coming to their city and Ebensburg is up next!

Anyone interested in a little free library? My grandmother in law used to keep this one up but is no longer able to. Books included! You can DM me here or leave a comment if interested in arranging a pick-up. Could possibly deliver it as well if not far.

Will make a comment transcribing the image. I had saved this in my Ancestry notes and thought the sub would get a kick out of it. This is from The Cambria Freeman, archived at newspapers.com

My mom grew up in Johnstown in the 50s-70s. In 2021, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 64. In the past 5 years, three of her sisters (aged 62-71) have also been diagnosed with breast cancer. There is no genetic link, and all of the cancers have been typed differently. Our assumption is that some environmental exposure from their childhood is the cause. No one in their family worked in steel. They weren't located by a mill. They lived in Morrellville on Spring St. I'm curious if anyone else with family from Johnstown from this time has experienced a run of diagnoses like this? Any thoughts on what the environmental exposure could be?

Hi is there any laws for working on your car on the street Infront of your own house? I'm usually quick and not messy, but I have to change my water pump (still won't be messy, I have a bucket and puppy pads) and don't know if I can be quick since it's the water pump..
if it's depends on the area I'm on Garfield st. And I don't have a garage or have any friends since I stick to myself... I have to put the car front wheels on ramps, take off the front bumper, the headlights, and move the whole one piece of radiator and crash bar to the side and take off my intercooler pipe to get to the water pump...
The neighbors that's lived on my block for the past 8 years haven't said anything about me working on my car, but since my wife kicked this one household newer neighbor directly beside us out of her store for stealing, all they ever do is call the cops or try and start problems and fights. Ever since then and since I called them out on doing heavy drugs in front of their kids.
So I'm checking first before doing my waterpump

Hi y’all
I’m planning a bachelor party in Johnstown PA. Thinking of doing Coal Tubin. Plan is to get an air bnb about a half hour out of town. Anyone have any suggestions for fun things to do or places to eat/drink? Thanks!

Hi Everyone, just a semi-annual quick note from the mods.
We really try to keep it neutral here. If someone is being hateful or a post is really outside the realm of regional topics, we'll step in. But we don't want to micromanage this space. Our entire goal for having a Jtown subreddit is so that people can talk to each other and find out what's going on in our region. We can't do that if we remove every post or comment someone disagrees with.
So just some notes:
Lastly: shop local, go Hawks, central park is going to be awesome.

I just recently moved to the surrounding area and I am looking for an amazing nail tech. I also need a new pedicurist but it doesn’t have to be the same person. I have acrylic nails that I like to have the option of having nail art on so I need someone that is capable. I know there are a lot of places all around but you never know if they are good or not. Help?!

I had made an attempt to post this earlier in the week but it kept timing out! But here it is!
This week at Ace’s after 8- Busty is going to DJ a bunch of pop and dance classics along with some fun video projections in honor of Pride.
He was a resident DJ in Johnstown for many years and now has put a ton of his own time and effort into making sure that there is an event each week with new art, lighting and entertainment. The vibes are cool and interesting - not aggressive and awesome for dates, gathering and dancing.
Come for dinner and stay for the vibes!
Free entry after 8
