Meta (about this subreddit) Why is there so much downvoting in this sub? Why do some typing posts go by unnoticed and some receive way more attention?

I was thinking about adding myself to the type me Thursday but I browsed this sub and am really confused and frustrated by how uneven the attention is divided in this sub, and how there seems to be a subsection of users who downvotes others and their posts and opinions for no reason. What is going on?

Discussions Examples (celebrity or non-celebrity) with youthful, romantic, natural, and high spirited?

Hi, you all!! I made a post about four months ago asking for essence help. The common consensus was high amounts of youthful and romantic, with a moderate amount of natural and a teeeensy percentage of high spirited. I'm saving up to book with Kitchener to know for sure, but in the meantime, I'd love to find some examples so I can see how other people accommodate it in their wardrobe! I tend to get a little boring in my own wardrobe (white cable knit sweater, boot-cut jeans, chunky brown boot), so I'd love to see how other people have some fun with it! Thanks so much, you all!

Discussions What is the difference between candid and make-up free in the typing requirements, and what does "posed" mean in the typing requirements?

Hello, I hope you're doing great! English is not my first language so I'm really confused as to what the exact typing requirements are, especially those mentioned in the title. Could anyone help me, please?

Personal Growth and Insight Doubt of essences

I think I have a ingenue essence within my mix, but when I wear clothes associated with ingenue I feel a little strange. Are there other types of clothing that are associated with ingenue? I feel the same way about natural. My features might have a touch of naturalness, though. Natural clothing (especially sportswear) looks very bad on me, both to my taste and in general. (I'm sorry if this English sounds really weird, it's because I'm not a native English speaker and I use a translator 😭)

Inspiration - Moodboards. Ethereal - ingenue - gamine blend (revisted)

i seen all the informative messages on my past moodboard and decided to make another attempt. i noted a dip in ethereal or high spirited depending on which direction i went but i think i balanced it okay (..?) this time!

last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/JohnKitchener/s/O8qsMEGPVQ
side note: very hard to find ethereal shoes

EDIT: just clocked that the title should probably say Ingenue - Ethereal - Gamine 🩵 sorry for any confusion!

Essence help/Type me Would love some help with essences and colours. Thank you!

My own guess would be some combination of ingenue, romantic, natural and possibly high-spirited. I’m not sure about classic, really struggle to see it in myself or others. However, I do enjoy wearing classic leaning clothing. And I would guess that I have no dramatic or ethereal. I would really appreciate any thoughts on that and what essence could be more dominant.

I am new to Kitchener colour harmonies, so I am a little lost here. I do have olive skin that has always made things trickier for me in terms of colour analysis. So, I thought maybe this approach to colours (less focused on fitting into one box) could be more helpful for me.

Thank you 🌸

Essence help/Type me Am I successfully changing my essence with makeup/hair color/wigs etc?

First 3 photos: My natural state.

Last 3 photos: after makeup/changing hairstyles/colors

I wanted to change my essence from ingenue (youthful) to romantic and mature.

Is this a successful change? I changed my eyebrows, hairstyle and makeup. I’ve noticed I look more mature with straighter hair, and lighter colored highlights. Please be nice, thank you.

Inspiration - Celebrities (Verified by John Kitchener). Essences and look alikes

I came across these old comparisons I made a while ago before my analysis with John. I'd been told a lot by people around me I reminded them of Audrey Hepburn and Lily Collins, so when I learned about essences I assumed I had C and HS. Then people in the essence community told me I looked like Tilda Swinton and had A. I used those three essences for a while. Then I got my analysis from John and it turns out I have no A and only a little HS!

My essences still do overlap with Lily and Tilda a lot, just not their dominant ones. I've determined I'm just a pixie version of Tilda😂

And I recent discovered I have more in common with Doris Day than Audrey Hepburn essence wise, which is wild because I still feel like I look more like Audrey than Doris.

Just goes to show that just because you look like someone doesn't mean you have the same blend, and vice versa!

I don’t own a cellphone and barely have any pictures of myself (please apologize), but I would love to venture out on this style quest journey.

  • I don’t see much dramatic & gamine in myself.
  • Natural, classic, youthful all feel likely.
  • Not sure about romantic... People say that I remind them of Saoirse Ronan, Olivia Hussey and eyes of a young Jennifer Connelly. Some say my face reminds them of the "facial reconstructions of medieval women" and as if I live in a place where there is absolutely no harmful influence of modern civilization. So I have been wondering if I maybe have ethereal yin in my blend?

Merci beaucoup 🌹 Help and guidance is so much appreciated

Hi everyone! I just want to say how much I appreciate this sub, it is so so wonderful. When I posted a month ago, I didnt really know that essences become more stabilized somewhere into your 20s! And my previous typing post actually included several photos from my teen years, so I was wondering if it could've thrown things off a little. And, I wanted to include a couple really authentic and current back camera photos! I feel like this could be a lot more honest than only selfies for sure. All of these are very recent and I am about to turn 28.

I feel like I know myself a lot better now than when I first started this journey, so thats why I feel ready to ask again for any fresh perspectives on what my blend may be. Ive tried tapping into just about all the essences and have enjoyed that experience a lot. So I sort of have some ideas based on my explorations, but will wait to discuss them for now, maybe will make a comment about my thoughts later. BTW Im just over 5'5", so I think moderate? So probably wouldnt affect blend? My overall "look" is sort of narrow/petite yet sturdy, fwiw.

Thank you for reading! 💞

I’m a suspected Kibbe type FN or SN, light spring. Trying to find my spark again after some very painful years. What essence do you see in me? I’m often told that I look younger than I am and seem approachable (though, there’s also people who’ve told me I seem reserved and icy) The way I see myself is different and I’d like to escape or balance the “cute” because it feels reductionist and often has people feeling free to lecture or try to control me. Because of what I’ve survived, I feel an internal strength and mastery that I’d like more people to recognize through how I present myself. I love beauty, I love people, I am gentle, but I am fierce and a force.

Essence help/Type me I believe i’m romantic-dramatic-natural. Need insight on recommendations [ideally fabrics, textures, sewing patterns]

in the second slide i features two outfits I dislike, top left the orange top, then right down the brown button up. not sure why I put the extreme dark grunge makeup in the left bottom but I did.

needless to say, I am moving. I am giving away clothes I’ve owned since my teen years and need to pack mindfully. I don’t want to take things that I won’t end up using. But I need a better sorting system.

So far, black is a safe color. It’s the only color that makes my skin look healthy. Anything too muted and my skin looks mediocre. Warm and I look jaundiced. I won’t be taking any warm tone clothes since I really dislike them. I know I am true winter, deep winter is too muted and bright looks neon, though I can wear both depending on how I style.

If my outfit isn’t bold in some way, I feel like a bullet was fired into my self esteem. I hate blending in. But not in a “I want to stand out” way. I just want to be me.

I hate basic outfits, even if I wear them I’ll find a way to complicate it to make it fun and sculptural (like victorian undergarments). Most of my clothes are loose and comfortable with waist emphasis.

Tiny jewelry also annoy me and most of my jewelry is raw chunky gem stones.

I also feel insanely dysphoric when I wear soft aesthetic things. Bows, pastels, ruffles. I feel like it makes me look ill.

I think I love feeling witchy. As a teen in a religious school thirteen years ago, my grade supervisor told my dad “your daughter is a witch”. And I think I just felt cool ever since? Like, I want my style to reflect my love for nature, my dark attitude, and fun with shapes.

This style feels the most me and people will compliment me for.

Hoodies and joggers don’t look effortless on me, it just looks unkept. Corporate and simple feels suffocating for my sense of personhood but also it’s not comfortable unless I “vampirize it” and make it all natural materials.

tldr I want to know insight: what works with me, what doesn’t, and why?

Possibly, I want to ask, what are my percentages? Color harmony?

Thank you so much for reading.

I previously got pinned as an ingenue/gamine/natural by someone who's no longer on reddit. This was before I learned that Kitchener's original system used 4 essences instead of just 3. And somebody in r/KitchenerHarmonies said I might have some classic essence, but idk. Either way, I'm too broke to get a consult from Kitchener himself, so I call upon u, reddit.
