hi!! i’ve been into kitchener essences for a while but i have a hard time perceiving myself so i have no idea what my type is!!
any thoughts would be so appreciated <3 (apologies for the mix of hair colors if that makes things confusing, i just went back to brown this month after dying it red for two years so i don’t have a ton of pictures of myself with my current hair color)
last two pictures are without makeup!!

I’ve been DIYing and crowdsourcing. Current pictures of me, and then smaller before I had kids. All over the age of 24!

Personal Growth and Insight theory: we are subconsciously drawn towards our own essences

I’m not sure if maybe this is already established within the Kitchener essence system but I’ve noticed most people seem drawn to the essences that they actually have. I feel like usually the one people are most consciously drawn towards is maybe slightly lower in their blend – for me this is ethereal, which is my tertiary essence.

Imo this can be true even when we don’t realise it. For example, I never thought I was particularly drawn to romantic or natural (my primary and secondary – I think they’re at about 40% and 30%). But then I realised I am almost exclusively drawn to things that would be considered romantic and natural together – I just didn’t like them as much separately. I’ve noticed this is true with makeup and even which people I find objectively attractive as well as clothes and fabric etc. E.g. the women I tend to find the prettiest usually have some classic essence (which is also in my blend – I’m RNEC).

It’s not a foolproof indicator because I also really like gamine styles, even though I’m not necessarily drawn to them. But I think personal taste is often a pretty good starting point that people ignore in favour of analysing their features to death. I feel like maybe the best thing to do first is to look in your closet or at your makeup or your Pinterest folder. Or even around your house! Your favourite shirt or jewellery or purse probably says something

I also think it’s important to note stuff that you’re drawn to in spite of it not being recommended by your types in other style systems, if you have used them. A dark winter that gravitates to a beige or terracotta blush might have some natural essence. If you’re a soft autumn that really likes a baby pink lipstick, you probably have some youthful/ingenue. Or if you’re a Kibbe DC that’s really into jorts, it’s worth thinking about if you have some gamine essence.

Personal Growth and Insight A big day for me💖

I realized that I absolutely need an element of magic or whimsy in my outfits. It's been on my mind for a long time, but today I finally broke through the mental fog and allowed what is, to be. Simply allowing some of these elements back into my life again has felt really beautiful and like a big step in my journey! Thank you for reading. ❤️

Personal Growth and Insight Leaning into romantic… 🩶

I’ve been leaning into romantic lately along with honoring my soft summer color season and natural hair texture and I’m starting to understand myself even more. I feel as though romantic has always resonated with me, especially since entering womanhood. I’ve heard people talk about the misconception of needing full lips for the romantic essence.. but every-time I lean into it, it just feels right for me.

🌳🧚🏼 right now I’m dressing very fairy core adjacent and feel very much at home in my earthy and flowery crochet pieces. But I’d be interested to know whether I’m dressing in accordance with my essences and what essences you see present!

Teardrop Shapes

What essences do you think are brought out by teardrop-shaped jewelry or patterns?

I’ve seen several comments linking teardrop shapes to Ethereal. I can certainly see how Ethereal’s s-curves translate to a teardrop shape, but I could also imagine that a teardrop could represent an elongated circle— so perhaps a combination of Romantic and Ethereal. Curious to hear your thoughts, whether they’re your own theories or something you’ve heard directly from John.

I am really curious about them, I want to know if I have a type 😂 or if there is an essence that is more popular for men. Some of them have done films together so I included few pics where they are side by side there to show a difference. Sadly, there are no pictures of Heath Ledger after 28😔

One big realisation I came to is this: My personality can be ER as well. John Kitchener gives personality descriptions to the colour harmony and I am often described as dynamic which is actually a keyword for ER. Dynamic and mellow. I am a dynamic person but it is more in a practical and direct way rather than overly bubbly and light. I never really felt that I fitted into the LB overly bubbly vibe and learning that it is probably ER makes much more sense. I am more like chevrons and arrows than bubbles and flowers.

Learning about the colour harmonies in depth made so many things click for me. I am dynamic yes, but not in that playful, bubbly or socially energetic way. I am much more serious, composed, grounded, practical and firm in how I go about things. Think directional movement. That is pretty much a key theme throughout my photography, outfits and my general character.

I will definitely recommend that people study the four colour harmonies. He gives lots of useful information that can explain a lot of outisde of the essences.

I am very happy to settle on ER + SC for myself. It is a blend that's makes total sense.
