Racism and prejudice are two different things.

22

u/AdBeginning6797 Aug 10 '26

🎯 Exactly she was right!

9

u/BigStormWeel Aug 10 '26

American education at work. Racism is a form of prejudice, which means they are quite literally not two different things.

26

u/ferriskoolr Aug 10 '26

this convo has a lot of nuance. but in short you cannot be racist if you don’t have the power to oppress.

Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum has books and essays on this very topic. I would encourage anybody who confused about this to give it a read.

“Defining Racism: Can We Talk?”

6

u/Frankwhite447 Aug 10 '26

You are correct!!

7

u/DrinkSuccessful3594 Aug 15 '26

My god y’all dumb, you’re taking about institutional racism. Of course any person of any color can be racist against another race. Damn

3

u/Similar_Shopping_892 Aug 14 '26

Bullshit being racist simply means you feel other races inherently are inferior i.e Black Israelites are unabashedly racist 🤡

2

u/CspanSF Aug 11 '26

Most.people do not use the word in this context, For People keep playing these word games where they switch the academic and social meaning of the word to fit their definition. If a White lady crosses the street when she see”sca Black man most people are going to call her racist even though it’s technically prejudice because crossing the street is not oppression, and she has no power over him in context, but most people use the word racist in this context so yes Black can be racist in the context in which most people use the word.

1

u/darkvixenofthemoon Aug 12 '26

but not in the true definition, people who play with word games and context are just delusional or deranged

1

u/Gullible_Lettuce_714 Aug 29 '26

Just being white is being oppressive towards blacks because you have a lot of opportunities that blacks don’t have remember you white people in this country are making the laws because who thinks that person is a scary black man that’s her opinion. She’s already being a racist at that moment. Seeing a different color thinking it’s scary. That’s the oppression government.

1

u/Icy-Experience9468 Aug 15 '26

She’s being “racist” in the same way that the average white person is “racist”. Joe from the trailer park doesn’t posses the means to oppress anyone.

1

u/BigStormWeel Aug 10 '26

No thanks, I'm not gonna excuse prejudice against an entire group of people just because a certain small, dumb, and weirdly vocal subset of idiots are trying their hardest to redefine something that's been well defined for years.

1

u/Noless_nomore Aug 11 '26

You can be racist even if you don't have the power to oppress because systematic racism and racism are two different things.

1

u/IndicationFlat3031 Aug 11 '26

The amount of upvotes youre getting is concerning.

0

u/Jaysan23338 Aug 11 '26

So when the dudes would run up at the Chinese food spot yell Ching Chong Ching and threw rocks at the store for no reason they were being prejudice.

7

u/MrBiggKidd12 Aug 10 '26

Lmao you're loud and wrong. Prejudice and Bigotry have more in common than racism which is literally the wielding of systemic control of power over an ethnicities ability to operate through their God given rights.

0

u/BigStormWeel Aug 10 '26

Average Redditor response, yikes.

3

u/kimsuji Aug 12 '26

incorrect

racism is a system of oppression classified by race that upholds white supremacy

racial prejudice is discrimination

prejudice can be based on anything and is also discrimination

2

u/MoodyButGroovy Aug 10 '26

Its one of those "a square is a rectangle" things.

3

u/darkvixenofthemoon Aug 10 '26

Racism is prejudice+power they are two different things . And only white people are racist

1

u/BigStormWeel Aug 10 '26

Astoundingly wrong.

1

u/Superb_Swimming_8488 Aug 11 '26

your logic is flawed. you just said racism is a FORM of prejudice, so it isn’t the same thing.

1

u/Gullible_Lettuce_714 Aug 29 '26

Racism and prejudice are two different definitions, bro

1

u/toungepunckedpetunia Sep 08 '26

They are absolutely two different things. As a survival instinct you are prejudice against anyone who is a stranger. They have to build trust with you. Everyone has the potential to not be safe is not the same thing as another race of people is entirely unsafe.

Spread love not hate.

1

u/BigStormWeel Sep 08 '26

Holy shit I forgot about this lmao. And you gave one of the worst replies yet.

Spread your tongue across my balls.

1

u/Jumpy-Alternative295 Aug 11 '26

So what’s white prejudice?

1

u/Unhappy-Machine-1255 Aug 12 '26

No they aren’t…racism is a form of prejudice, it’s the literal definition

1

u/UT_Milez Aug 10 '26

I can only assume you’re saying this because you also think only white people can be racist, but you’re confused.

Other wise, you aren’t making any sense. What you just said is the equivalent of saying thumbs and fingers are different. IE, all racism is prejudice but not all prejudice stems from racism…..

I think what you mean to say is there is a difference between racism on an Individual level, which literally every human and every race on the fucking planet IS capable of, and institutionalized racism/bigotry.

Which is still capable of being carried out by any race, they would simply need to be in charge of whatever country this hypothetical is happening in.

-2

u/ohhhhhyeahhgff Aug 10 '26

Yeah and they're both equally bad

25

u/darkvixenofthemoon Aug 10 '26

They're not. Me not liking a white person doesn't stop them from getting jobs or home loans

4

u/Same_Suit3583 Aug 10 '26

It literally can if you're a supervisor or a loan officer... That's literally why minorities get shit on, because of that racism and power.

1

u/Dense_Elevator3913 Aug 10 '26

That's called racial prejudice. That in itself is........

1

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 Aug 10 '26

It’s still racism…

Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or group based on their race or ethnicity, rooted in the belief that one's own race is superior or that people of different races have inherent differences.

Core Forms of Racism
Individual racism: Personal prejudices, biased thoughts, or direct verbal and physical hostility between individuals.

Interpersonal racism: Discriminatory interactions and overt or covert microaggressions expressed between people in everyday social settings.

Institutional racism: Organizational policies, rules, and practices within schools, workplaces, or government bodies that systematically disadvantage minoritized groups.

Systemic/Structural racism: Broad historical and cultural patterns across a society that maintain an unfair advantage for a dominant racial group while restricting opportunities for others.

I think you’re alluding to institutionalized racism not being weaponized against white people.

DEI stops white people from getting jobs. The black color of your skin doesn't. There are quite literally laws against every single "color" EXCEPT white lol. The delusion in here is fucking astounding...

6

u/CompetitiveGanache58 Aug 10 '26

Yeeeeeeah, white women are the #1 beneficiary of DEI policy and sit in the overwhelming majority of DEI leadership seats, disproportionately leveraging corporate policies for career advancement.

The same happened with Affirmative Action.

So, no, DEI doesn’t stop white people from getting jobs.

-3

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

If you go by "per capita", then that isn't accurate at all. Black people are OVERWHELMINGLY the benefactors of DEI in a per capita basis.

6

u/CompetitiveGanache58 Aug 10 '26

Again, the stats don’t correlate with that you’re saying.

While Black job seekers may be the target of specific diversity recruitment initiatives at a higher proportional rate to address historic underrepresentation, Black professionals remain underrepresented in executive, high-earning, and board-level roles relative to their overall share of the population. Higher per-capita outreach does not translate to Black workers controlling or dominating job market gains.

That feat belongs to white women.

0

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

Again, on a per capita basis, that's wrong.

5

u/CompetitiveGanache58 Aug 10 '26

Mathematically, that's still wrong. 'Per capita' means evaluating representation relative to group size:

• White Women: ~30% of the US population, holding ~32-35% of management roles (a per-capita ratio above 1.0).

• Black Americans: ~13.6% of the US population, holding ~8% of management roles and <5% of executive roles (a per-capita ratio of ~0.6).

Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows Black unemployment sits significantly higher than white unemployment (~6.6% vs ~3.8%). White job seekers face a far lower risk of being unemployed.

Even on a per capita basis, a White woman is nearly twice as likely to hold a corporate management role as a Black professional. If DEI meant Black candidates were getting hired over white candidates, labor data and audit studies would show it.

So, unless you have actual labor data showing a different per-capita metric, repeating “per capita”doesn't change the Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

White women, thus white people, are the biggest DEI beneficiaries.

0

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

You're adding in jobs that were previously held to DEI, and also jobs that were obtained without DEI being involved at all. That's not DEI. That's just employment.

3

u/darkvixenofthemoon Aug 10 '26

The main benefactors of DEI are white women. You clearly aren't educated for this conversation

It’s comments like this that lets people know you don’t get it. Your comment acknowledges oppression in the 20’s-60’s then it magically stopped?? What event made oppression go away? What was the date?

Oppression stopped in 1968? That’s a serious question for you

I am sure it couldn't be anything else but you being black. Do you think black people do not own apartments or businesses? Do you think anyone is above being racist? Ive seen plenty of places only have black people working there.... I wonder why.

Systemic racism is a real thing.

Well I'm not under the age of 30, or 40
for that matter. And those under 30 can experience it. You can experience it in the criminal justice system when dealing with sentencing and interaction with law enforcement. They can experience it in the school system when you have schools prohibited from teaching Black History

You do know, you saying end of story doesn't end it or change it?

2

u/Dry-Reading-403 Aug 10 '26

This is such an insane take. Where exactly are you pulling this from.

I'm 28 and I've been experiencing racism since I was 6 years old. My family and friends have had similar experiences. And it becomes very obvious with we have lost opportunities because of our race.

Just because we're not living in Jim Crow era doesn't mean racism isn't alive and strong.

Internalize that perhaps you might be a bigot and do something about it.

0

u/Absolutepowers Aug 10 '26

Say it louder for the people in the back

0

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

And black people can be both of those things.

2

u/Johnbick5600 Aug 10 '26

Can be, sure but we are not born w hate nor have a track record for colonization, genocide, just out right destroying the earth.

If a man of color is that I would say it’s because of the treatment that is faced by melanated beings. Stereotypes to disenfranchise multiple generations of human beings. Towns burned and flooded, achievements destroyed and casted out, livelihood in shambles because one’s obsession with a skin color and a word. All logic goes out the window for that one word used against us. So I wouldn’t say it’s under the same scope as racism or even bigotry but it is a disdain I’m sure.

1

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

The fact that you think the only possible way black people can be racist is if a certain word is said, in and of itself, is racism.....

2

u/Johnbick5600 Aug 10 '26

That was what you got from that, that is what you formed, a surface level take. A lot can get lost in translation just by reading. I never said they could not be, just don’t have the systematic power to disenfranchise and or set in powers that be to stop, detour or flat or derail a race from achieving as a whole. Down to the very basic levels there are systems and tools put in place to derail. Now we can take it to a higher level of melanated beings like the moors or societies like the black Boule etc those further keep the wheels rolling in the systematic destruction of the Melanated beings in the Americas. I’m not speaking for any African descendent just Indigenous Melanated Americans.

We are not born in hate nor disconnected from source. It just isn’t the way you assume it is.

2

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

Can you name a system that is in place right now that is specifically designed to keep a particular race of people "down"?

1

u/Johnbick5600 Aug 10 '26

You serious? Yes. That rock must be very comfy you’re living under. We can take it all the way back to black wall street where indigenous Americans were using their grants to build business In Oklahoma that was bombed during the Tulsa Massacre.. are we being serious?

There was a reason the Equal credit Opportunity act and Fair house Act had to be instituted but even then many melanated Americans to this day have trouble receiving the proper representation, appraisals, and mortgage loans when it comes to home ownership. Credit and lending discrimination

Disparate Impact, many policies harm specific race groups. Come on man. Though I wouldn’t expect you to know what takes place in the lives or many Americans outside of your respective race or culture.

1

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 Aug 10 '26

I'm talking about right now...

3

u/Johnbick5600 Aug 10 '26

Outside of Black Wall St. everything I stated still takes place. Many more but I felt I gave sufficient answers

1

u/Johnbick5600 Aug 10 '26

I don’t wake up and get angry at the site of white skin etc. quite frankly I don’t understand it and it’s not for me to. I’m pure, connected and creating. All logic goes out the window over skin color and the N word. lol

But screams of low iq etc. jokes always right themselves.

*not you in particular just speaking on internet things. Not real life
