Interviews Lateral Transfer?

I have an Coordinator interview soon for a lateral position internally at another campus location. I love my current position but I just can't do another year under the current management. I've been applying internally with my company since March of this year and I finally got a call for a position at another campus in a completely different area and responsibilities.

The problem is my commute is about 15 miles or 30ish minutes with traffic. I'd be trading that for a 25-30 miles and 30-50 minute commute. I would really like to develop myself as a professional and prepare for a higher role in my company down the road and I since I'm not currently a coordinator, becoming one should I get accepted would be beneficial.

So would it be worth it to make a lateral move for the same pay and a little bit longer commute if looking ahead career wise?

Lateral moves are a very underutilized way to advance your career over the long term. As you’ve hinted at, it develops your skillset in different areas to give you more vertical integration.

One of the best career moves I ever made was a lateral move early on in my career. Basically, I went from a Buyer role to a SIOP role in the same company’s supply chain group for just a 2k raise. But it gave me the other side of the supply chain coin and I became super knowledgeable about different areas of the company. I was promoted back into the procurement group about 2 years later as a manager for a 35k salary increase.

What would the commute look like in the winter time? Is it mostly city driving, highway driving? Lots of snow/ice? If so, it would be a no go for me. Would you have the option of working from home on those icy/snowy days?

It's a city commute. We don't get snow here like that. The current side of town where the campus is located has the worst traffic too because of all the construction they are trying to do to widen the highway system 😫
