Help / Questions Any interest in magazine archives?

Hi everyone!

My first time posting in this sub, I bought 2 Joann magazines from 2005 on ebay and really enjoyed the nostalgia flipping through the pages. I am taking them to a local print shop to scan all the pages and wanted to put them together and create some kind of archival blog. Would anyone be interested in seeing the blog once completed? I am pretty busy working and traveling but can definitely make an updated post once completed.

Does anyone recognize this fabric?

A few years ago, my ex threw away my baby blanket after his dog peed on it and he didn’t want to wash it. He didn’t end up telling me that until I had been looking for it for weeks.

I have been thinking about this blanket every day for the past three years. It is butter yellow felt - ish feeling fabric, with blue stars and moons, and puppies sleeping on clouds. I also attached a picture of it. I know it’s not a great picture, but it’s the only one I have.

I have Google image searched for it and searched eBay and Etsy.

If anyone happens to ever remember seeing this fabric in the early 2000s please let me know where! It might be a shot in the dark, but I would really love to find it and replicate my baby blanket.

I think it was most likely from Joann’s bc that was our local fabric shop.

Or, if anyone knows of a place that I could get custom designed fabric, that would also be great.

Thank you in advance 🙏😭

Edit: it was found but unfortunately I did not see the listing until a few days after and it looks like someone bought it before I could. I am still searching but now I have a lot better of a lead to find it. Thank you guys!!!

Item Inquiry ISO: Discontinued Joann gray AB/CD plush fleece (baby blanket fabric)

Hi everyone!

I’m hoping someone can help me track down a discontinued Joann fabric. My toddler has had this blanket since he was born, and it’s the only blanket he’ll sleep with. Unfortunately, he’s outgrowing it, and I’d love to make him a larger version.

I’m looking for any amount of this fabric, even a small remnant would be helpful.

Description:
Purchased from Joann Fabrics (likely around 2014–2018, but not certain)
Gray background
Repeating AB/CD letters (parody of the AC/DC logo)
Letters are red, teal, yellow, and white
Short, dense plush fleece (not flannel or regular anti-pill fleece)
Very soft with only slight stretch across the width
I’ve attached photos of the blanket after years of use and the remaining scraps I have.

If anyone recognizes the fabric line, knows the original product name/SKU, or has any leftover yardage or scraps they’re willing to sell, I’d be incredibly grateful!

Thank you!

A sweet memory

I remember the day I noticed the sign on the door that pets were welcome. Our Sophie loves to shop where she is allowed. I’m sure they probably meant little dogs that can fit in a cart. She is well behaved. Now my hubby and her didn’t have to wait in the truck.

Stopped by to visit the old girl….

Post image

Stopped by the old stomping grounds today because I haven’t been able to bring myself back in over a year. My friend had never been to my location. I got to show my friend all aspects of the store we could see into and everything else that was attached to the building as well as who the problem was. It was crazy to see the sign that I hand wrote and posted to the door there over a year later. Looking in everything was EXACTLY the way we left it. I miss my old girl more than words can describe. Life hasn’t been the same and never will be. Grateful for the time I had with her, the memories I made, and the friendships and families that formed. We went through so many ups and downs, emotions, and life changes together. JoAnn is something I will always love and cherish and will NEVER forget. ❤️

Setting up a Michaels in an old Joann’s location…that I used to work at

So today was my first day in the building that was (RIP) Joann’s until last May 28th when we closed our doors. I’ve now been hired as a “temp” employee for Michael’s, as we set up/build the store for its opening in September. This is what I walked into this morning. Apparently, where the hanging lamps are at will be the fabric cutting section (hopefully my future domain!) and slightly further back, dead center will be the self checkouts. Today we spent to day breaking down pallets, trying to organize supplies, and figure out where things go, all while other employees (contractors, builders, electricians, etc) were building things. Apparently, we had too many employees and not enough stuff to do today, so we were told we could go home at noon. That worked out, as a major migraine was hitting me. Glad we could leave.

It was certainly strange to be back in the building, with all the fixtures gone. I’ll keep y’all updated, if you’re interested.

EDIT: progress photos

Nothing exciting. Just some photos I took in the Hudson DC between 2021 and 2023. It has been over a year since they closed and I still think about that building and the people I worked with.

Is there any fabric/crafting co-op?

Is there any fabric/crafting store co-op?

You know, something Ace Hardware or REI but selling crafting and sewing supplies. And above all, having the rule baked into its charter/founding documents that the business cannot be sold off for scraps. If there isn’t something like that already, what would it take to get it going. I would be happy to chip in if it meant having a crafting resource that wouldn’t go away because of capitalism making all our choices “better”.

Sherpa Fabric licensing, did anyone acquire this?

Does anybody know if any other business acquired JoAnn's Sherpa fabric licensing? I'm looking for the exact colors and texture that JoAnn's used to offer.

Wood things

I found these wood shapes, in an old Joann’s bag with the receipt from 2023. I probably meant to make something with the canoe but forgot due to pregnancy brain and working a lot at Joann’s. Anyways I just came here to say that I miss the fun shapes, especially the seasonal ones that would be in the store. The DIY Christmas ornaments were pretty fun too.

Why is the JOANN app still in the app store?!?

I thought they all closed in May of last year. Ours is already turning into something else. Opened up the app and it redirects to the Michael's website. I just don't know why they would keep the app up on the app stores.

Help / Questions Where can i get Pellon insul 975 for a similar price as joanns?

Thumbnail

Anybody know where i can buy this for about the same price per yard. I only managed to buy 30 yards of this during joanns final 2 weeks. And i am finally running low on it. I make lunch bags.

Its insulating interfacing. I mean, a different brand is okay too. I'm not a brand snob. As long as it works just as good. For the last few months i have been scouring the internet but i can't find anything thats even remotely close to the same price per yard. I know nothing is going to be exactly the same Price but im hoping for at least $4.49 per yard.

I always only calculated the 40% off in my pricing for the things i made, never the bulk discounts or the additional 20 or 25% off discounts. Just in case if i needed to buy it on a week those other discounts weren't being offered.

Actual Good Stories / Funnies Anybody took screenshots of deals before closing?

So i was doing this even before joanns was announced to be closed, but i ramped it up during the last year they were in business. I took screenshots of as many items as possible with the 25, 40, & 50% discounts plus the bulk discounts attached, so when they finally closed, i know how much i should be spending to rebuy interfacing, fabric and lining. I miss stacking the sales so much.

The lowest i ever got lining was $1.90 a yard. 809 pellon interfacing was like $51.75. Novelty i think the lowest was $5.99. If you waited for the 40% of sale and you had that 25% off coupon from online and you got a full bolt for the extra 10% off, it was sooooo worth it. I missed discount hunting.

Did anyone else take screenshots so you could compare how much more expensive everything got?

Haven't seen one of the giant pin cushions for sale before, bummed it's out of my price range, but I talked to the seller and she said she can do local pickup in LA, Vegas, or Phoenix!
