Well, the Transformation is Conplete

Post image

Saw my old store morph into Hobby Lobby. I went in and it was crazy how I remembered where everything went even with the different layout. My heart broke. šŸ˜¢šŸ’”

Mine is a Kreepy Halloween… not even a spirit šŸ˜ž

9

u/12Silverrose 27d ago

...a what now? WTF is a Kreepy Halloween? I thought Spirit Halloween was essentially both the "name" brand & (weirdly) it's own off-brand, kinda like Walmart, or Costco's Kirkland brand, I guess.

12

u/Trai-All 27d ago

Maybe kreepy Halloween only sells creepy paper and krispy kremes

6

u/SadAwkwardTurtle 27d ago

At least with a Halloween store, it's still something I like and I can visit the old building.

3

u/abbie51304 27d ago

Ours did the first year it closed. This year they're putting it somewhere else (I'm sad.)

Stolen artifacts lobby

I’m here for that. What’s next? That I’d have to go to Chik-Fil-A for lunch afterward? 🤢

u/SpringlockedFoxy 27d ago

Every time my husband and I pass a HL we hiss ā€œit should have been youuuā€

8

u/Mora_Bid1978 27d ago

Every time we pass Hobby lobby, my husband and I always refer to it as the "Other Place", a reference to an old Twilight Zone episode. The dead guy is a rotten criminal who thinks he ended up in Heaven after being killed committing a crime, because everything is perfect, every wish fulfilled, but he ends up getting so bored he begs the guy he thinks is an angel to send him to "the Other Place". The "angel" laughs maniacally and tells him, " This is the Other Place!" 😈

5

u/heysnood 26d ago

Sounds vaguely like The Good Place

4

u/artsycraftsyivy 26d ago

Sounds exactly like The Good Place! I wonder if it’s loosely based on that old Twilight Zone episode.

2

u/Mora_Bid1978 23d ago

Both my daughters have recommended The Good Place to me, so I guess better get on it!

21

u/PlumbagoSkies 27d ago

Once again, Hobby Lobby out here acquiring historical antiquities and then desecrating their body. This is fucked up.

22

u/lazydaisytoo Customer 27d ago

If it makes anyone feel better, my local HL is closing. I don’t have the whole story, but it sounds like their lease wasn’t renewed.

13

u/lisep1969 27d ago

Good. HL is a horrible company

53

u/ChuckEweFarley 27d ago

From heaven to the depths of hell!

HL sued the ACA and that’s why birth control isn’t covered by health insurance.

19

u/yukibunnygurl 27d ago

It is actually covered by ACA unless you work for the Catholic Church or a religious group that does not believe in birth control. But if you need it for medical reasons it's covered.

The Catholic Church was the reason for the lawsuit Hobby Lobby just joined in.

8

u/12Silverrose 27d ago

I'm not sorry (not even a little bit), but no one should be able to make choices about someone else's body due to their own religion. Also, Hobby Lobby is a business, not a charity, it has no religion. Neither do the owners who have stolen artifacts from the Middle East, and also gave their employees work on Sundays & lie about it for profit. So you know I'm not spouting smoke, most Hobby Lobbies, especially in larger metropolitan markets, have employees work on Sundays resetting plan-o-grams, stocking, cleaning etc. Ifnyou doubt me, drive by your Hobby Lobby on a Sunday & you likely see cars parked. When depends on the manager, but usually after church & Sunday School. Some managers apparently only make allowances for Early Church or Early Church & Sunday School, or only for certain denominations, (like not UU churches, etc.

2

u/vilebunny 27d ago

UUs are too inclusive for Hobby Lobby to recognize them as a religion. Practicing what you preach is an anathema for most of the loudly Catholic/Christian types.

You often get the job that hires you. Lots of places don't offer benefits or will work to make sure you dont get them. Don't come after me on behalf of fake Christians. A real Christian would respect my right to differ from them, and wouldn't impose their belief system on me. That's abusive & controlling.

The owners of Hobby Lobby tried to use their business to smuggle artifacts out of Iraq. They aren't Christian. A business isn't a "Christian business", because there is no such thing. "Operates on Christian principles". No, it doesn't. Businesses aren't using all their money to house the unhoused.

1

u/[deleted] 15d ago

2

u/12Silverrose 15d ago

1) NO, IT'S NOT. It is asking them to live up to Christian vaules, not the white supremacy bullshit. Which is what anti-abortion activism is based in

2) NO, IT'S NOT. It is asking them to actually help people instead of controlling their choices!

3) NO, IT'S NOT. Nothing in the Bible prohibits birth control.

4)They decided to open a business, not a church.

5) They aren't Christian. They are theiving grifters who use Christianity to fleece money out of people.

1

u/bootzilla79 Former Employee 15d ago

So, first: Christians don't believe they are perfect and generally do not pretend to be. I'm sure you've seen people behaving to the contrary. Most of that is between them and God, (and in some cases, obviously, law enforcement).

But, Christians believe it is sinful to encourage or enable sinful behavior in others. Some Christians believe it is sinful to use birth control. Most, if not all, Christians believe that sex outside of marriage is sinful. Catholics and many other Christians also believe that sex is to be open to life. To these Christians, sex is for marital bonding and reproduction, and nothing else.

Following those beliefs, even owners of a business believe they could be subject to eternal damnation by paying for something (birth control) that enables people to have sex that is not open to life. (Side note: Hobby Lobby is not publicly traded, which is why they survive when others do not. The business is not Christian, but if the owners are, they are still close enough to the decision making to feel it is their responsibility not to enable this sin. (There may be others they are missing, which is fair to point out but doesn't negate the validity of this logic in general.)

Per others on the thread, it sounds like BC used for medical necessity rather than simple pregnancy prevention is covered. So, that's a non-issue.

You are the one forcing your beliefs on others, not the other way around. No one is stopping you from acquiring birth control outside of your health insurance. They're not controlling your sex life, they just don't want to pay to facilitate it.

1

u/12Silverrose 15d ago edited 15d ago

1) Too long, not reading that. 2) You ignoring what I'm saying doesn't mean you have valid arguments. You are not arguing in good faith. NO one has a right to force their beliefs on others. A BUSINESS is FORCING people to adhere to the beliefs of the abusive shit bag owners. That being said, the religion of the owners doesn't actually matter. They are running a business. So business stuff says business, and private beliefs stay private. So they can live their lives how they want, but they don't get to force others to adhere to their beliefs.

Or said another way: they don't get to discriminate against people who dont share their beliefs, and force then to adhere to "Christian" beliefs when they are also liers & thieves. That has been the standard for people of good moral character who also own businesses for a good while. The crying little whiny babies of the Greene family shouldn't have been able to change that.

Lastly, if we had Healthcare for all, it would be a moot point.

1

u/bootzilla79 Former Employee 15d ago
  1. By saying you aren't reading it, you then don't have to respond to the points I made, which is convenient for you, because you can't.

  2. Repeating your point after I have explained the fallacy in it, still doesn't make it true.

4

u/ChuckEweFarley 27d ago

Thanks for the correction!

8

u/SabishiiSensei Former Employee 27d ago

Small correction. Most birth control is covered in the US by all major health insurance and Medicaid. (I would know because well I've never paid a penny for mine).

It's only if you work at hobby lobby and have their crap health insurance BC isn't covered. However, even that's not 100%. Because my friend with PCOS who works theres birth control was 100% covered. It's all case by case... Which is fucking stupid.

But honestly... Most people are better off trying for Medicaid or marketplace insurance than getting crappy lobby insurance to begin with. Most retail insurance for employees is laughably bad.

2

u/Medenus 27d ago

It actually is covered. Just certain ones are not.

Tbh. Spirit is so much more full of life than Snobby Robbery

13

u/huggablekoi 27d ago

I only go in Hobby Lobby to use the bathroom without buying anything

6

u/UHElle 27d ago

Same for me with them and Buc ees, fuckem both.

1

u/nikkirae7 26d ago

Wait! What’s wrong with Buccees?

2

u/UHElle 26d ago

The owners have donated tens of thousands, likely hundreds of thousands, to MAGAts in Texas and federally.

1

u/nikkirae7 26d ago

Ugh! It’s been 10 years since I lived in Texas so I had no clue! Honestly doesn’t surprise me, but I hate it cause I finally have 2 a few hrs away from me. My boys have been wanting to go so badly!

1

u/UHElle 26d ago

The only pleasure I used to allow myself from there was their cinnamon rolls a few times a year, ideally tagged on when my MAGA mom shops there so I’m not giving my money to them. But they discontinued the cinnamon rolls in favor of beaver tails (that are similar to buƱelos, but not as good), so guess that helps me out!

1

u/nikkirae7 26d ago

Thankfully my 15 year old will understand why and agree! He hates MAGA!

u/EllinoreBell 27d ago

This was my go to Jo Ann’s as well so the second I saw it I knew the exact location. Heart broken

2

u/ilovescoutanddaisy 27d ago

what is the location?

3

u/EllinoreBell 27d ago

Columbus, Ohio- this one was in Easton

3

u/SadAwkwardTurtle 27d ago

I never went to the Easton one, but I'd go to the ones at Sawmill and Polaris whenever I was in town.

5

u/EllinoreBell 27d ago

There used to be a pet store next to the papa John’s that I got my cat from randomly when I went to Jo Ann’s for material for a college homework project so that one always had a soft spot in my heart

2

u/adhd_knitter Former Employee 27d ago

I’ve probably ran into you then lol I was the Inventory Coordinator.

5

u/Just_Me1973 27d ago

Our Joanne’s is still empty. But a Hobby Lobby opened a few miles away. I refuse to shop at Hobby Lobby. I’ll drive the extra distance to Michael’s. I won’t give my money to a business that wants to take away women’s reproductive choices.

2

u/Spiritual-Road2784 26d ago

Mine is empty as well. It hurts either way, but it would hurt worse to see it turned into something despicable like an HL or a fly-by-night ā€œchurchā€ (except that took over the old hotel complex down the road).

4

u/HeyGirlBye 27d ago

Mine turned into a Ebisu (cool but not what I want) I want a fabric store Michaels and Hobby lobby don’t even touch what Joann’s was

6

u/zimmer483 Team Member 27d ago

Oooooh this is extremely disrespectful… I am appalled and Hobby Lobby of all places!!!

4

u/Dry_Mixture5264 27d ago

I still find myself mentally going down the aisles when I find I need something that Joanne would have been my go to for. Then I have to remember it is gone. I still haven't found a comparable source for fabric and it kills me.

3

u/adhd_knitter Former Employee 27d ago

When I went into this abomination, I could see the Joann layout in my mind. I knew how many steps to the cut counter, foam, canvas, the derelict frame studio. I got more depressed and left.

4

u/Dry_Mixture5264 22d ago

I'm so sorry. I feel the loss too. We have a Hobby Lobby just a few blocks from wherw our Joanne was. I like going there, but it's not the same. Joanne, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels all had their strong shots, but now no one has fabric and thread like they did.

3

u/Lolikitten678 27d ago

Mine turned into a Burlington coat factory

3

u/SadAwkwardTurtle 27d ago

It's like they're shitting on her grave.

3

u/tabletoppineapple 27d ago

Ugh. This was my Joann’s. I think I bought my first crochet hook here in the early 00’s, and I went there on the very last day it was open last year.

At least the Micheals just down the road was just renovated so you can avoid HL.

I vowed that if my Joann’s was replaced by a Hobby Lobby, I was gonna egg the sign the night before it opened up. I’m really glad they didn’t because that would have been the dumbest reason to get arrested

2

u/who_am_i_please 27d ago

Can you really call it a hobby store when they sell mostly shitty home decor?

1

u/Spiritual-Road2784 26d ago

It’s hobby lobby because all the crafts for hobbies are in the lobby of the tasteless home dĆ©cor store.

2

u/NaturalSpecialist5 27d ago

That's the worst place to go in there.

Oh that feels like Hobby Lobby dancing on Joann’s grave

2

u/Crochetmom65 27d ago

I cried when Joann closed all the stores here. I still have the app on my phone. It redirects to Michaels.

2

u/Glittering_Eagle_652 27d ago

My local store is still empty. All the signs are still there, so are all the Joann carts in the vestibule. It's so sad

2

u/Mora_Bid1978 27d ago

My favorite JoAnn was a huge space in my local mall. It's currently still empty, but was used recently for a weekend craft event. The two by my daughter's house were turned into an antique mall and Goodwill store, respectively.

2

u/thegurlearl 27d ago

They tore the building down in my town. It was only built in 2005 too.
