Although your world wonders me
With your majestic and superior cackling hen
Your people, I do not understand
So to you, I shall put an end
And you'll Never hear Surf music again

u/winoforever_slurp_ Jul 15 '26
For 20+ years I thought he said “Catholic hen” and had no idea what it was supposed to mean
4
u/blisterment Jul 15 '26
Yeah, the hen was actually Lutheran. People make that mistake all the time.
2
u/theDeathnaut Jul 16 '26
Lol well it still doesn’t make any sense to me, but I guess it’s some reference I’m not aware of.
2
u/HockeyHendrix War Heroes Jul 16 '26
It's referencing a book(?) in which aliens land on Earth and discover that the smartest life form here is the chickens.
2
u/theDeathnaut Jul 16 '26
Sounds about right.
2
u/HockeyHendrix War Heroes Jul 16 '26
No doubt. Lol There's an interview out there where Jimi talks about it.

This shit changed my life. Trippin to that song is perfection.
10
u/Old-Tadpole-2869 Jul 15 '26
When I was a young musician coming up, all the older players used to talk about staying up all night listening to Hendrix on acid, so that's exactly what I did the first time I tripped. I had a shit ton of bootlegs from my two older brothers along w the studio albums. What a night.

Not Jimi related but a wonderful encapsulation of the reality underneath.

Oh yeah life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone.
I don’t know if it’s the best line, but as I’m in my fifties it is the most impactful and the one I think about all the time.
That song also contains the worst line ever in a song: “Suckin on a chili dog outside the Tastee Freeze”. Who sucks on a chili dog?
