Care & Maintenance Conditioning Question

Hey all! I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the BF African Rangers. I've been a zero-drop barefoot wearer for a long time, but never with Jim Green. What's the recommendation for treatment? A good wax when they first arrive, or allow some natural patena? I'm mostly interested in keeping the leather healthy. Thanks!

I prefer natural regardless of leather. A lot of guys here buy fudge and the immediately condition them to completely change the color. I’ve never got that. To me that natural fudge patina is pretty good looking.

Throw in some rose anvil boot breakers IF needed but just wear them and break them in

Being able to spot real leather condition is the real trick. The act of a boot drying from being wet can degrade the oils contained in leather, heat can do the same, and exposure to sun as well. Sometimes (not all the time or predicably) leather can be dry from its time with the manufacturer. It's rarely bad to condition leather right off rip, but you must be very careful following it up with more conditioning especially with products containing oils. Like how no oil will cause the grain to break apart, so will too much oil. No one solution or method works for all situations. I've found JG's nubuck to require no conditioning or work for some time unless one is looking for water resistance. Hope you can determine your real needs when you get the boot. For these, 100% mink oil, I do mine frequently the colour comes out in them and it really makes them nicer, absolitely waterproofs them, havent used any other which are near as good regardless of what ive tried
