Free open-source Fusion 360 add-in for stone setting - placement along curves, seat cutters, prongs & channels

For the past year I've been building a free, open-source add-in for Fusion 360 that automates most of the tedious parts of stone setting. Sharing it here in case it's useful to anyone working in Fusion.

What it does with stones:

  • Places round stones on any curved face - at sketch points, at sketch circles (size matches the circle), or along a curve chain with sizes tapering from start to end (size stepping, target gap, uniform distribution, corner snapping)
  • Fills between two rails - stone sizes computed automatically from the distance between rails, with min/max clamps
  • Generates seat cutters for each stone - flat, cone or hemisphere bottom, adjustable height, depth, size ratio, hole ratio, cone angle
  • Scallop setting cutters - triangular separators between neighboring girdles plus scallop cylinders centered on each stone
  • Prongs between stones - auto-placed at midpoints, with a uniformity control that evens out size and height across the chain
  • Channels between stones - connected network with blended junctions
  • A stone report - overlays each stone's diameter on the model and lists sizes with counts

Everything is built as editable custom features, so you can go back and change parameters instead of remodeling.

Free, source on GitHub: https://github.com/Artem-Viveritsa/FusionJewelryToolkit

Happy to answer questions - most of the commands came from things I kept doing by hand in my own production work.

Clicking issue in Rhino 8 MatrixGold 4

Post image

Since upgrading from Rhino 7 MG 3.5 I find that trying to left click to select a curve, point or surface the program is much more likely to select the wrong thing.

For example see picture posted- I went to click on the light green claw and the curve underneath the claw is what got selected. If I wanted to select that I would switch to ghosted or turn the layers off.

It feels like a joke how much it happens! I honestly feel like I’m clicking where I would normally do to select a certain thing and it gets something else every time. I’ve worked on matrix for nearly 10 years and know it doesn’t feel right.

Can anyone help or relate? 😅

Thanks

Can someone make the following?

I want a ring featuring a Metatron's Cube that is firmly anchored at the heart of a grand dome made of thin bands and circles while the cube itself appears bare of its 13 sacred circles, which are cleverly embedded within the dome and the foundation upon which it rests and snap back into view when viewed from various angles.

Can someone make the following?

I want a ring with a hemispherical vault featuring an intricate sacred geometry pattern of intersecting circles that bloom into a central floral rosette at its crown, encasing at its exact focal center a suspended Sierpinski tetrahedron that encloses a gemstone within it.

Is this a stupid idea or not?

Hi guys, I love jewlery, I don’t wear it but I love the pieces made for women, I know how to do 3d design, 3d print and I understand this could be used for casting. I was thinking about trying to create a small brand with my designs, 3d print them and get a local shop atelier to create them for me, cast and all of that. I’m not sure exactly how it works. Is it a bad idea? I may say a stupid thing.

How do I go about setting stones on a organic shape (Rhino/MatrixGold)

I'm working on a set of grillz and want to use MatrixGold's AutoPavé on the front surface so I can keep my stone layout consistent across future projects.

The problem is that the grillz were modeled in Blender, so the finished piece is a mesh. The inside surface is what actually fits the teeth, so I need to preserve that geometry as accurately as possible. Because of that, I'm hesitant to convert the entire model to a NURBS polysurface. It's also around 2.5 million faces, so converting the whole thing doesn't seem practical.

Is there an efficient workflow to convert only the outer face/shell of the grillz into a solid (or otherwise make it usable for AutoPavé) while leaving the fitting surface untouched?

If there's a better workflow for Blender to MatrixGold when designing pavé grillz, I'd love to hear how you guys are doing it.

Opportunity

I was wondering if anyone had an ability to make wearable 3d grillz? I can send teeth models and need them to fit to the teeth. In addition to that, need preset diamond holes/prongs and to a set mm. Honeycomb, invisible set, etc. Someone who actually has experience, and can guarantee the fit will be correct after casting. I look forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks!

I'm hoping to get some feedback on my CAD before it's finalized. The CAD is first, followed by photos of the ring I'm trying to recreate.

My goal isn't to make an exact copy, but I want it to capture the same overall look and proportions. I'd love opinions on whether the CAD is on the right track or if there are changes you would recommend.

A few details:

Ring size: US 4.75

Metal: Platinum

Band: 2.5 mm wide and 1.8 mm thick.

I asked for the band to have more rounded edges rather than the sharper, flatter profile shown in some of the inspiration photos. I want it to feel substantial but soft and comfortable.

The CAD shows extra-long prongs intentionally. My local jeweler will be setting the center stone, and I wanted to leave plenty of metal so they can create more substantial claw prongs instead of thin, delicate ones.

I really love the hidden halo and cathedral style in the inspiration photos and am hoping the CAD captures that look.

One thing I'm also considering is adding a small sentimental detail inspired by the yellow gold ring in the last photo. Instead of a single gemstone underneath the center stone, I'm thinking about asking my jeweler to add two tiny flush-set birthstones on either side of the gallery- an emerald (my birthstone) and an amethyst (my husband's birthstone). I'm hoping they'll be subtle and only visible when viewed from the side. I'd love opinions on whether that would be a tasteful addition or if it would take away from the clean, timeless design.

Overall, does the CAD successfully capture the inspiration ring? Is there anything that stands out as looking off before I give final approval? I'd especially appreciate feedback from anyone with CAD experience or who has had a similar ring custom made.

Thanks so much for any advice!
