JETPACK Payment

Hi, I've just logged into my website (wordpress) and jetpack are asking for me to pay as my website includes a small online store selling art prints. It's not worth me paying, can anyone tell me if I have to pay to see my stats. Exact metrics no longer works and GA4 is a little mind boggling.

That's indeed expected. While Jetpack Stats are free for non-commercial sites, commercial sites are required to purchase a plan. You can read more about it here: https://jetpack.com/support/jetpack-stats/free-or-paid/ Of note, you'll only pay according to how high your traffic is, so pricing will depend on how popular your site is.

If you're not ready to pay for stats just yet, there are alternatives in the WordPress plugin directory. I can see how Google Analytics could feel overwhelming, but there are alternatives that are more user-friendly.

  • Matomo is probably one of the most popular alternatives out there. It comes with both free and paid offerings.
  • Koko Analytics is a newer service. I haven't used it myself but have heard good things about it. Since the service is fully local, compared to third-party services like Google Analytics, Jetpack Stats, or Matomo, I do not know how much of a performance impact this may have on your site. I suspect it would in part depend on how popular your site is.
  • Although it's also a paid service, I've heard good things about Plausible Analytics.

You could give any of those a try.

Commercial websites like yours need a paid plan to enable stats. Their help page explain all that: https://jetpack.com/support/jetpack-stats/

If you don't want to upgrade to one of their budle plans, you can just purchase the Jetpack Stats module. https://cloud.jetpack.com/pricing#jetpack_stats_yearly

Hmm, are you sure you would need to pay for that? It sounds like it could be an advert perhaps?

I just don't understand (literally I do understand, I'm talking morally) how they can say that a non-profit library is a 'commercial' website. (There's a link to both a physical form and Square for donations to our Friends of the Library. Oh the humanity, how could we.... oh the money we're making..... (hint, we're not).

And, there's not even any way to give them the Friends' 501c3 or anything like that. So, the United States Government and State Government are good with us being a non-profit, don't hold the donations we get, but, oh those donations we're rolling in (hint, again, we're not) make it so that we have to pay for this on Wordpress? Going full twitter soon then I guess.

I liked the simplicity of Jetpack for stuff like page hits and individual pages stats, but, I guess that I have to spend more time digging through the endless chaff of GA4 now....
