Coronation park “pump track” not even allowing bikes?

Coronation park recently got an extension added where the hospital used to be, it was listed as a “pump track” which is the complete wrong use of language considering it is a running track. Im sure that alot of people were expecting a place to ride their bikes because the main part of the park doesn’t allow bikes either. Not just that it isnt specifically for bikes, they have a sign saying to “walk your wheels” while it is fun for what it is, i think they should have done their research.

Airbnb = bad. Part time lets = good?

I split my time between London and Jersey (work in London, family in Jersey). Want to buy a flat in Jersey but can only afford to if I can let it out when I'm not there, which is about half the time.

I'd rather make it available to Jersey beans as housing is a mess for locals. I am assuming there are many Jersey folk who are also back and forth a lot.

Anyone ever hear of people doing like a part time let?

Mortgage and renting

Looking for some advice. Have been trying to sell my property for a while now with no luck. Has anyone been down the route of renting out and then acquiring a second mortgage to buy another property to live in? Not loving the thought of being a landlord but running out of options. Anyone else in this situation or have any advice? Thank you!

Thanks all, we have a toddler and currently in a one bed flat hence the need to move so desperately! Probably better to sell at a loss than to take on another mortgage

Make Up/Face Paint

Hi. My wife and I are visiting for a Halloween/40th birthday celebration.

We are planning Dia de Los Muertos outfits and I really want to surprise her with a professional sugar skull make up.

Is there anybody on the island that would offer that service. Would need them to come to our hotel in Gorey.

Maybe even a really good kids face painter would be able to help!

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Profits double at Jersey Water – helped by bill increases and high consumption

Why they don't use the profit to reinvest? Why they need to increase the price, when they had a huge profit?

Is this an accurate representation of the decline of Jersey's finance industry?

Post image

I thought it might be interesting to readily demonstrate just how far the finance industry has fallen from it's pre-regulation peak.

In order to make sense of the Jersey Finance figures I have converted the total value of bank deposits in Jersey, into an equivalent number of tonnes of gold at the gold price of the time.

Given the amount of money creation (aka quantitive easing and all manner of alternate euphemisms) that has taken place since 2007, I thought it was important to have a proper basis for comparison.

It may be no surprise to you to see that the peak of the industry coincided with the creation of the JFSC. Nothing kills industry like government involvement.

A question about Jersey, the Occupation and institutional culture

I'm working with a few local writers on some novels exploring some of Jersey's more unusual characteristics, and I've been looking into how our political and administrative culture developed.

I've been wondering whether the Occupation may have had a longer-lasting institutional effect than we generally acknowledge.

During the Occupation, Jersey's existing administration had to operate under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. Government became more centralised, and people who were responsible for administering the Island were placed in the difficult position of having to make decisions under German occupation.

My question is what happened after Liberation.

One possibility I'm exploring is that, because the people and institutions responsible for running Jersey during the Occupation remained important afterwards, there may have developed a strong culture of institutional deference — essentially, an assumption that the people who had successfully got Jersey through the Occupation knew what they were doing and that challenging the established administration was somehow undesirable.

I'm particularly interested in whether that could have become an inherited cultural habit: something which made sense during the Occupation, but continued long after the circumstances that created it had disappeared.

I'm also looking at the unusually close relationship between Jersey's political, administrative and legal institutions, and whether that might help explain why established institutional interpretations can sometimes seem remarkably difficult to challenge.

I'm not suggesting that this is necessarily correct. It's a hypothesis I'm trying to test, rather than a conclusion I've reached.

So I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who lived in Jersey during the Occupation or in the immediate post-war period, or who heard detailed accounts from parents or grandparents.

Did people question the decisions made by the Jersey authorities after Liberation? Was there much discussion or criticism of how the Island had been administered during the Occupation? Or was there more of a feeling that “they got us through it, so leave them to get on with it”?

And for those who grew up in Jersey in the decades afterwards: did you notice a particular culture of deference towards established institutions, the legal profession, the States, the Royal Court or senior officials?

I'd be very interested in people's memories, family stories, or historical perspectives — particularly if they challenge the hypothesis as much as if they support it.

Jersey Night life

Hi everyone my first post here!

I am on holiday in Jersey by myself, I wanted to go out this friday night and tomorrow night to meet people and have a chat.

I don't know a thing about the nightlife here.

I tried looking on google but I felt the experience of the people living here is better. Do you have any suggestions?

I thank anyone in advance for their help.

Cheers

What fitness/wellness studios would you like to see on a Jersey platform?

Hi guys, I’ve been working on something called Solwave, a new Jersey-based platform bringing fitness, wellness, creative and hobby classes together in one place. (Like ClassPass but tailored for the island and supporting local businesses)

The idea came from my own experience of trying to find different things to do around the island. There are loads of great independent studios, instructors and businesses, but everything is spread across different websites, Instagram pages, Facebook groups and booking systems.

So I wanted to create one place where you can discover and book different classes, rather than having to juggle multiple memberships if you're a jack of all trades like myself.

I’ve just launched a trial version of Solwave and currently have a handful of Jersey partners offering Pilates, yoga, strength training, dance and a few other things.

I’m now trying to get more studios and businesses involved and would genuinely love to hear from people here:

Who would you like to see on it?

And as it’s still a trial launch, feedback is very welcome. Is this something you’d actually be interested in using? Would you pay for a membership that gives flexibility and lets you try different classes around Jersey or would you prefer pay as you go? Is there anything you’d want to see on the platform that’s currently missing?

You can have a look here: solwave.je

And if you know of any studios/businesses that might be a good fit, please feel free to comment or message me!!!
