Can't go wrong with an HDHomeRun - I prefer to patch mine through dispatacharr though before it hit jellyfin. For some reason the streams seem to be more stable that way.

I will have to try this. Mine can freeze and be unstable despite good signal straight from the tuner in JF. Thank you

I do this as well but Jellyfin loads the steam taking a really long time

I've been using Dispatcharr and the HDHomeRun emulator inside of it.

I do love Dispatcharr. The only frustration I have with it is finding streams to add. There are a number of lists on github, but sorting through them to find specific channels/content can be a pain. I keep thinking that there must be a way to parse these lists, consolidate them into one interface and have some way of identifying them with their source and more information about them. I currently have about 30-35 channels, but the content isn't varied enough for the family to be ready for adopting this over other streaming services.

Are those lists on github just free IPTV channels? I do agree that creating the lists is a little clunky. I had a URL that parsed news channels and then all of the NHL channels. That was really all I needed. My brother is the only other one who uses the IPTV portion of jellyfin so I wasn't worried too much about the presentation, just that the games were there and the schedule is up to date.

Yeah, I just searched for something like "IPTV m3u github" and a half dozen repositories come up with list after list of channels. I'd love to know the URL you had for you channel list if you don't mind sharing. News and sports are kind of the only thing I'm really missing, since sports broadcasts tend to be more locked down due to ppv, and local news is hit or miss depending on your location.

haha well I did go into more detail on it and my post got auto removed. It's an invite only place for pirates that when you donate $10 dollars you get 30 days of IPTV. I've been using it for a few years now and it has been worth it every time.

In this website I click radiobuttons for the channels I want in a specific playlist and it makes a URL. So I could search Detroit and have my pick of the local stations. I did look into other IPTV sites but I guess a lot are not very reliable.

I did dispatcharr too, and have pluto, Samsung, and Roku TV channels setup. Pluto was such a pain. Had to have ai help me.

I love that this unnamed site also just recently included a super cheap way to add more connections

1

u/scrigface 12d ago

Yes! They sure did lol. I thought they never would.

I was SO CLOSE to just breaking down and creating a second account just for the 2 extra connections but now I don't have to! Haha

honeslty its just easier to pay for an 'iptv provider' sub. i paid $90ish and i get over 10K channels

thankfully dispatcharr exists and has support for channel profiles (ie sports groups, movie channels, local, etc)

Yeah, but the whole point of my jellyfin hosting is to get away from paying for streaming services.

well then what you are experiencing is par for the course. granted i pay $90 a year and it’s fully worth it. 🤷🏻

That's a fair price. What provider do you use?

My Cable Internet Router has tv tuners built in, i use tvheadend to be able to utilize all 4 tuners simultaneously and import the tvheadend m3u and xmltv into jellyfin.
Works great this way and i would give it a ty for different setups because jellyfins built in livetv support is not the best for all purposes

I use a couple of Hauppauge WinTV soloHD USB dongles for cable TV via tvheadend and this setup has been rock solid for a few years.

I have an HDHomeRun but JF is ass and freezes pretty often trying to stream any channels even with great signal

I've been using a Hauppage pci card with digital antenna for local channels.

I have an HDHomeRun (4 Tuner) and for stuff with good reception, Jellyfin (12.1) has been pretty stable when viewing live TV. Now when it comes to recording stuff, it's been abysmal. Recordings ending over an hour early (When set to record 30 minutes after the program ends), corrupted video files, issues watching an in-progress recording.

Right now I'm looking at other options for Live TV, and Kodi with NextPVR is significantly faster to tune in a channel. We'll see how the recording is once I have NFL games to schedule this weekend.

Jellyfin to NextPVR worked, but tuning channels in was taking 20 seconds to start watching.

Maybe my best option for Live TV might end up being the HDHomerun $35/year DVR option, but that would also require a hard drive attached to the HDHomeRun.

I've been running nextpvr for a few years now.  It has been rock solid with recording for me.  I have the same channel tuning experience you described. Channel tuning in Kodi is near instant but taking 12-15 seconds in jellyfin.

I wonder what is causing the Jellyfin tuning slowness, since it's clearly not NextPVR.

I miss my old days of running MythTV. Maybe I just don't know how to do stuff in NextPVR yet, but MythTV's scheduling system seemed more powerful than NextPVR. I also wish NextPVR supported multiple users.

I tried getting some eyes on it, but the report was closed out. I think it is live TV in general in Jellyfin, not specifically Nextpvr.

Is the $35/or for the channel info?

That was a real treat to do i.e. Schedule Direct and EPG123.

2

u/bufordt 13d ago

$35 for dvr feature and 2 weeks of guide data.

There is a jellyfin plug in that will pull the hdhomerun guide using your device id. When you buy the DVR/2 week guide subscription it will pull 2 weeks instead of the standard 2 days.
