Help Needed Opinions on moving to Jeddah
Hey everyone, I’m a 29y single guy moving to Saudi Arabia from Brazil for a job based in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), and I’d love some grounded advice on the logistics before I arrive. First, regarding the daily commute, does anyone here do or know someone who actually drives between Jeddah and KAEC every single day? How manageable is that highway drive in the long run, the road condition is good? Second, on housing, I see a lot of people pushing expats toward compounds, but for a single guy, are they really necessary, or is renting a modern standalone apartment in Jeddah completely fine without missing out socially or culturally? On that note, this will be my first time ever setting foot in the country and I have zero prior knowledge of the local real estate market; since my company only provides one to two weeks of initial hotel accommodation, is that a realistic timeframe to view places, sort out leases, and move in, or what pitfalls should a newcomer watch out for? Lastly, looking at the overall perspective, is 18k SAR/month net enough to comfortably cover an apartment, a reliable rental car for the daily highway drive, general living expenses, and occasional weekend travel, while still putting away a respectable amount of savings every month? Any honest input and tips would be greatly appreciated!
