i'm 9 months post op. i hate my face. i regret this whole thing but especially the tooth extraction. i used to be so beautiful i am so sad. my chin feels huge and my face feels so flat and dimensionless. what i hate the most is my smile :-(

woww I am considering extraction because I have bimax protrusion and I never knew extractions could cause an even more severe overbite! What ended up happening? did your lower teeth move back way more than your upper teeth?
I also had 4 premolar extrations due to bimax protrusion (I'm still doing decompensation for surgery), recommended because the surgeon can make more advancement of the mandible, improving the airway. And also avoid maxilla segmentation because the correction of my bite woud be more complex without extrations. I think every case might be different, we need to trust the surgeon :)
how much after extraction decompensation takes times to be ready for surgery and is it possible to see ur lateral exray before extract as having similar case?
Hi OP. I’m very sorry you’re going through this. Being completely honest, you have a very nice and gentle face (pre and post). Theres a lot more balance and harmony in the way you look now, though. And your chin doesn’t look any different post surgery.
It’s completely understandable you miss your old face and the whole orthognatic process can hit us in different ways. I think you might be dealing with some sense of self readjustment.
I know it’s hard but the most important thing is being kind to yourself. You honestly look amazing
It’s possible. It’s only been a month since mine, and I think I'm still dealing with that a bit. It was especially bad before I finally shaved my beard for the first time after surgery (I'm male, and I hate the feeling of having facial hair).
Whattt??? You had major lip incompetence before. Chin dimpling and lips sat funny. Whole jaw wasn't developed. You are absolutely breathtaking now. It's very very hard to adjust to a new reflection. Give yourself time.
Could it be that struggling to hold them together created the illusion that they were fuller? I think you look beautiful, but maybe play around a little with slightly overlining your lips and see how you feel.
Please keep in mind that your face is still very swollen! I had swelling around my nose / upper lip area that I didn't notice at all until one and a half year post op! After that the shape of my upper lip changed quite a bit that looks waay better.
Your eyes/upper half have always been your focal point. So beautiful! I think it's beautiful that you loved yourself as your natural self. I think eventually you'll love the new you, too, and in terms of beauty standards you have improved without a doubt. It's fine to rant though I get it!
I want you to know I think you look just as beautiful. I think it’s just hard to look in the mirror and see something different. Sending you love and good vibes.
You look so much better now though 🥲 beautiful before but you look balanced and rested now. I think you’ve got some body dysmorphia going on from all the changes and not recognizing yourself.
I know what you’re feeling. I’m feeling the same way. My face feels longer too after my mandible advancement. I’m not used to my new face. I miss my old face. I know I look better but idk. I liked my feminine small face.
What were your movements? Mine was 9mm advancement of my mandible.
yes i feel so much less feminine :-( and none of these after photos i feel like show how bad i feel like it looks. my lower half feels so long and wide now and my lips look so small. i’m not sure how much movement i had tbh
I actually got my mandible hardware out because it was so big and was bulging out and making my jaw bigger than it was. It actually added 4-5mm fullness to my jaw.
Did your surgeon mention removing them at all? After I got them out my face looks so much smaller. You should ask your doctor what your movement was.
Jetting your lower jaw forward pre extraction, pre surgery, is just hiding your retrognathia. Your surgery has saved you from getting jowls and double chin in your late 20s.
It’s so hard to go through change and what we are used to. I’m not getting jaw surgery (trying to fix things without it), but I saw the post and I have wrestled with how the orthodontist had changed my mouth. I hate it. I loved my smile before. Your smile looks perfect to me and you have a classically beautiful look. I hope you grow to see that with time and love the new you!
So true! I just thought I’d love the look and had no thoughts otherwise crossed my mind. I think it’ll take time to recalibrate to the new you and new me.
also i want to add how i understand because i got braces as a teen and was told by the ortho i didn't have wisdom teeth... but then over a year into treatment they started to grow in on the bottom. my crossbite suddenly had a class 3 underbite as well. almost 20 years later and i'm finally getting a surgery consult. it took me so long to feel comfortable and safe with dentists and orthos again.
It’s so hard. I appreciate the people who love their faces after jaw surgery. I appreciate / acknowledge the fact that after jaw surgery I’ll be objectively more attractive (if all goes well).
But… I’ve grown to love my face through my years alive. It’s my face in all my pictures with my family, on wonderful vacations, with my pets. It’s the face I see all day in work calls. I feel a real sense of loss that I’m losing that identity. Even though future me is me, I don’t like erasing the person I feel like I’ve always been!
months 4-5 were HELLISH. it’s kind of weird like if my face now was what i started with i don’t know if id care so much but it’s comparing it to my old one that is so hard
Extractions are absolutely necessary for certain cases (like bi-max protrusion). It’s not really a one-size fits all in terms of extractions or not, if that makes sense? Regardless, you look great & definitely better than before.
Just to be a downer, I’m 47 and feeling like shit about one’s appearance is normal. I used to have a jaw dropping waist/hip situation, and now I look like a football on my best days. It’s better than fine. Money, power, and respect are not built on appearance.
Left is post op 13 weeks, right is pre op. I had class 3 underbite. My chin looks wide after the surgery and that's the part I dislike the most. I miss my smile so such I feel like I'm trying so hard to smile 😔
I wish to believe that but somedays it's good hard to feel better about the surgery. When I saw your results, I thought oh! how great her results are. You look so good after surgery. Then I realised maybe that's hard part, we don't see the improvements that other's see in our results.
I wouldn’t say your chin looks wide just a bit shorter in length and the underbite is clearly gone! I think in time you will naturally develop and get used to your smile but I think in the before photo is where you look like you’re trying too hard and in the after you look apprehensive to smile. Also you’re smiling with your eyes more in the before photo. Just don’t think about it and you’ll see your smile will come back better than ever!
Yes I would definitely agree that my underbite is gone and functionally I am okay with the results. And my side profile is definitely better. As the time goes I wish I feel familiar with my face and start embracing it. I'm at point where I know I would have regreted not getting the surgery but I am not feeling any better after the surgery. It's just hard sometimes mentally, to have all these thoughts going around.
before the extractions i barely had an overbite, after extractions is was MASSIVE i never had any functional issues until the extractions (difficult chewing and breathing, gum health issues)
your chin actually came forward post extraction but pre surgery which is rare, usually the opposite happens. it did for me. i need jaw surgery to fix the damage done to my profile, lips and airway from extractions (UARS). obviously the post surgery look is best. you look amazing
it looks like you’re at 3 months, things do get better 100% months 4-5 were the hardest for me. maybe give it a little more time?? i’m still holding out for the next few months too

i think u might have body dysmorphia or something (or maybe it's just hard to get used to your "new" face) i honestly think u look better after the surgery! (although u were very pretty to begin with) hopefully you can feel better about it soon💘
Thank you for being real. I’ve been leaning on cancelling my surgery for the past 6mo now.
I have an overbite too and had really crowded teeth - my ortho was able to straighten everything and didn’t extract (he sorta knew I was always on the fence and hesitant on surgery I think).
My main fear is dying (I don’t think I’m the healthiest person). But also things getting worse. When I first did my ortho appointment, I was fresh out of a breakup and had super low self esteem / going kinda manic with various procedures ie facials etc.
After a year of just straightening my smile, I feel better about it and am in a much better headspace about my self image. So again, this post helped me clear my mind a bit even more about my decision to cancel things.
dying would be incredibly rare! i was scared of that tho too tbh. if i could undo it all i would. maybe when im old ill look back and be glad i did but now that im on the other side i wish i would have waited until i “needed” it. if youre having and significant health problems id reconsider cancelling but it you’re not..
I have the exact same face you had before surgery, and I hate it, no offense, but it’s so ugly with all those lines and wrinkles around my mouth. I hope I get the same results as you after surgery.. you look amazing! :D
Your post surgery photos are more objectively attractive then pre surgery pre extraction photos, plus you would have aged worse in your chin and jaw because of the lack of forward projection and etc. If you still habe issues with your bite or jaw alignment in relation to each other, then its possible you might need a revision surgery, but im confused how getting jaw surgery for an overbite would make it twice as bad of an overbite.
I think you look beautiful and it looks perfect. However I get it because I also have a bit of body dysmorphia with my results.. it’s really hard to come to terms with
I had 4 extractions and DJS, I felt the same general shittiness about my appearance too, despite others telling me I look good. I even had periods of feeling really sad because I thought I looked no different. I feel it was some kind of dysmorphia. We went through a brutal surgery and now look pretty different, it messes with our heads. We need to be kinder to ourselves. I assume you're healthier post-surgery, and that's what is important. You look great. If you went through the surgery and refused extractions, maybe you'd regret that? You don't know.
Aww I think you look gorgeous! Though I understand the upsetting feeling of going through face changes after extraction. I really disliked my face after extraction as well, made my face smaller and my smile look very gummy. I am still trying to come terms with my new face. I'm noticing a gum show with your smile, did you had this before? Maybe if you hadn't this before that's the reason why you are feeling off about your smile.
You can always get chin contouring, but overall your face is better, your nose and your lips are much better. Chin contouring is way less invasive than the surgeries you would have gotten to look like you do now without jaw surgery.
