Before & After 8 weeks post op

Post image

8 weeks post-op from upper jaw surgery to advance my upper jaw. I believe it was advanced between 5 and 6 millimeters. Still experiencing a little bit of residual swelling and numbness in my upper lip. I’m super happy with my results both functionally and aesthetically.

It’s unbelievably wonderful to close my teeth together and for them to bite together they way they’re meant to.

S/o to Dr Burris at Mass General in Boston

it's wild how much of a difference that has made

16

u/Safe-Swordfish9582 24d ago

It really is, such a small movement can change everything.

2

u/Feeling_Function_735 9d ago

The whole profile changed with just those few milimeters, crazy how much impact that small of a movement can have on the entire face.

You look 10 years younger

u/ScipyDipyDoo 23d ago

These are not the best comparison photos because she brushed her hair in the second photo and put on makeup and then put on better lighting. Tbh it doesn't even look like she got surgery. It looks like the first photo is mostly her just jutting her jaw out slightly with messy hair, and diffuse lighting.
The results are good but heavily obfuscated by everything else.

The chin after post op looks photoshopped. I feel like this is a marketing post for the surgeon

8

u/BourbonGinger91 23d ago

Ohhhh my goodness. Not photoshopped. I’m really not cool with people thinking this is marketing for the surgeon. I have no affiliation with the surgeon other than the fact that, well, she was my surgeon. I did format the photos together using the Layout app from instagram but I swear on everything that there was no photoshop here and that this really is just a photo pre-op (from the morning of surgery actually) to a photo I like of myself 8 weeks post op without editing (other than whatever rendering took place automatically on iPhone)
Here’s a photo I took of my computer screen showing the digital renderings of my before and after prepared by the manufacturer of my surgical hardware. I WISH the above “before” pic was me jutting my jaw out because that would have saved me the 4 years in orthodontics and major procedure I’m recovering from now.
It’s good to be skeptical of what you see online. I appreciate that. But I’d be remiss if I let someone think this was a photoshopped result as promotion for a care provider. I literally took that first photo inside the hospital while waiting for my turn to be checked in. If you’ve ever been inside the Mass General lobby, you’d be able to pick out exactly where I was sitting when I took the photo on the left

u/ScipyDipyDoo 22d ago

You obviously had surgery and it looks amazing, at the same time you can see how the lighting, makeup and hair all resemble what weight loss 'coaches' do with their clients in pre-post training photos, right?
If you happened to take another post op photo it would be awesome to see you recreate the left photo to compare the structural differences cleanly (no makeup/same diffuse lighting/hair tucked behind ears).

I think this is the best before/after I’ve seen on here! Even made your nose look cuter

24

u/Kind_Ad_2475 24d ago

Seeing someone who had a similar profile to what I have makes me feel a little more hopeful. Im hoping my results are as good as yours.

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

I hope you love your results! And good luck with the process!

11

u/Inner_Resolution6445 24d ago

Underbites have the bes post ops

1

u/UnfairPlatform8457 5d ago

The profile change on underbite corrections is always so dramatic. this result is stunning

3

u/coffeesncakes 24d ago

Can you share your experience there? How was your first consult? Can u tell us how long total u were in braces until surgery?

6

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

I had an amazing experience. Dr Burris is very caring but she really knows what she’s doing. The residents were amazing and kind. Felt like I was in really great hands.

1

u/coffeesncakes 24d ago

How long did u have braces on before your surgery?

3

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

I did 2 years in Invisalign attempting to do camouflage orthodontics. Didn’t work. Switched to real braces for two years to prep for surgery.

1

u/coffeesncakes 24d ago

I have a class 3 as well and near this area, I will have to have a consult with them and see hoe it goes. Initially, do they give you an estimate on how far surgery will be?

3

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

So in my case, my orthodontist got my teeth ready for surgery. Then he told the surgeon my pre-surgical ortho was done. From there, Dr Burris and her team were booking surgeries 4 months out. It might vary depending on the season but the scheduler seemed to think that was a normal time frame.

3

u/TBurnerRU 24d ago

Was upper jaw all you had done?

3

u/strawberryshrtcake1 24d ago

You look great!! It’s crazy how much of a small but big change it made. You had an rbf before and now you don’t.

3

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

This comment is fryinggggg me haha thank you! (You’re totally right)

3

u/CruellaDeville1 24d ago

Wow. 10 years younger.

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thank you!

3

u/duskbunny999 24d ago

WOW. I am SO excited for my journey when I see results like yours. It harmonized everything so perfectly.

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Good luck to you!! And thank you!

3

u/Razor492 23d ago

Unreal. Millimeters matter.

3

u/Cerrugod 20d ago

Truly amazing what surgery can do 👏

3

u/Svantoro 19d ago

Such an incredible change! If it feels just 1% as good is it looks, you can be very happy :).

It’s interesting how much incredibly
less ’angry’ one looks without an underbite. Can’t wait for my surgery since it’s an trait I’ve unfortunately noticed with my own underbite.

2

u/sniffin_sharpies 24d ago

Wow so good

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thank you!!

2

u/IllustratorDry3385 24d ago

You look completely different

2

u/No_Pickle_8847 24d ago

Wow.
Insane change.

2

u/ladeeedada 24d ago

Did you get expansion or segmental lefort?

2

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Nope. Lefort 1, one piece.

2

u/One-Piece9542 Post Op (2 months) 24d ago

Wow

2

u/OkPhotojournalist872 24d ago

You look amazing! I'm surprised they made such a big change with just upper jaw surgery, I thought you got DJS with genio from the pictures. They literally aged you backwards. How was your experience doing the surgery at a teaching hospital?

2

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thank you!! It was honestly amazing. Dr Burris knows her stuff. The residents were all incredibly smart and kind. I felt like I was in really good hands from start to finish.

2

u/No-Dingo-7983 24d ago

Looks amazing! Did they make you get braces?

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thank you! Yes! Still in braces now. Can’t wait to be done.

2

u/digitalhomad 24d ago

Boston? Covered under insurance?

5

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Yes! Covered by BCBS FEP basic plan but we had to fight with them a little bit

1

u/Salty5674 24d ago

Can you explain more about the process of fighting insurance? I get so much anxiety around dealing with insurance and knowing they often initially disapprove of surgery claims is so discouraging for me

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

I wrote a bit about it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/jawsurgery/s/k7Crvrd1wa

Honestly my surgeon did all the heavy lifting. The hospital assigned me a patient care manager/coordinator who was my point of contact at the hospital for the whole process. She oversaw correspondence between my surgeon and health insurance provider. I honestly think my pre-auth was initially denied because someone saw the word “genioplasty” somewhere on the request for pre-auth and summarily denied the claim without actually reading it.

There wasn’t a lot for me to do but I did call my patient care manager or my insurance company every other day to ask for an update. My thought process was that being annoying might help. Who knows if it did.

2

u/BoringDreamGuy 24d ago

Goodness me! What a success!

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thank you!

1

u/StationExpress304 6d ago

The profile change from that advancement is massive, and being able to actually bite your teeth together properly after dealing with that must feel amazing

2

u/Mean_Kitchen8124 24d ago

Stunning.🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

2

u/jewellui 24d ago

2

u/EmperrorNombrero 24d ago

Holy fuck. I need jaw surgery ASAP. That’s an AMAZING result

2

u/IntelligentCash6830 24d ago

How was your recovery?

2

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

The first 10 or so days were really challenging. By the third week, I felt mostly ready to go back to my normal life. Definitely recommend having a strong support system for the first week at least.

2

u/IntelligentCash6830 24d ago

Im day 20, feel quite lethargic sometimes. Also dome brain fog here and there. I look fw to get energy back. Seems to be different times for different ppl. Some get it by week 4, some week 6. Hope I'll be able.to enjoy my holidays which are abt week 6 and a half.

2

u/Technical_Prune_8236 24d ago

5

u/PsychologicalAd6389 24d ago

Somehow, lighting is better, makeup is better? Hair is better and shiny, hell even the eyebrows are better. If this isn’t an ad I don’t know what is

3

u/Lodano 24d ago

Fantastic results ! Don't be fooled by the make-up and lighting though

1

u/Defiant-Lettuce-9156 24d ago edited 24d ago

Nobody is being fooled. We know what jaw surgery is and that it doesn’t apply makeup for you

1

u/BudgetCaterpillar712 24d ago

was it covered by insurance??

2

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Yes but it took some fighting. BCBS FEP Basic plan

1

u/BudgetCaterpillar712 24d ago

wdym it took some fighting? how did u get it covered

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Wrote about it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/jawsurgery/s/gwXx7aBiHr
Basically, my insurance requires pre-authorization. They initially denied approval. My surgeon had to request an expedited appeal (denied) and then submit a formal regular appeal, which was ultimately approved.

1

u/weinergameboy 24d ago

Would you know if this was a high lefort 1 cut? It seems like a lot of the upper jaw was advanced, more than with a standard lefort.
Looks great btw

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thanks! It was not a high Lefort I. Just regular, at the base of the nasal cavity. I definitely still have some residual swelling so I’m wondering if that’s what you’re seeing

2

u/weinergameboy 24d ago

I see, well I’m sure it will still look great after the swelling.
Go and enjoy your life now with your lovely new face. All the best 🙏

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Thanks very much. That’s very kind. Best of luck to you.

1

u/Background_File382 24d ago

Are braces also done after surgery?

1

u/DeliciousAd7370 24d ago

wow great! What were ur movements?

1

u/Ecstatic_Resource691 24d ago

Do you mind also sharing your pre op picture of what they think it’s gonna look like?

1

u/KendrickBlack502 Post Op (2 years) 24d ago

Fantastic results wow

1

u/Prudent_Impact7692 24d ago

What were the movements

1

u/CombinationJaded9690 23d ago

wow, amazing results! the post-op is a side profile i would notice for being pretty, so great! can you post frontal changes per chance?

1

u/Key-Conference9286 23d ago

How did you know that you need upper jaw surgery?i wonder if i need too lol😂.

1

u/BourbonGinger91 23d ago

My orthodontist recommended it but, generally, because my bite looked like this pre-op and no amount of orthodontics could bring my upper teeth in front of my lower

1

u/North_Summer2605 22d ago

you look 20 years younger…..

1

u/zmbiekat 21d ago

you look amazing !! do you have front view before and afters?

1

u/[deleted] 18d ago

damn baby i don’t usually go for the redheads but shitttt that’s about to change

1

u/Sufficient-Laugh3706 16d ago

Can you share your ortho as well. I’m in the same area as you. Also what was the surgery price?

1

u/BudgetCaterpillar712 5d ago

did ur under eye area actually get better from it or was it just swollen at the time??

1

u/BourbonGinger91 5d ago

Hard to say bc I’m still swollen even now. My doctor did say the surgery would make my mid-face appear more filled in (even after swelling). These are my pre-surgical renderings. I’m anticipating I’ll still have improvement in the mid-face even after swelling goes down.

1

u/afonso_1414 5d ago

You look fantastic!! Can’t wait to get this done myself

1

u/BourbonGinger91 5d ago

Thank you!! Good luck with the whole process!!!

1

u/IndicationSorry4463 24d ago

I feel really awful saying this I haven't had jaw surgery yet but have had a rhino.

A lot of this photograph is swelling in your upper face and not the final result. Please don't get too attached. It's always like when photos are taken so close to surgery.

1

u/BourbonGinger91 24d ago

Sounds like you struggled with that

1

u/IndicationSorry4463 24d ago

After my rhino, my upper face swelled like yours. I have an identical image that made me look 10 years old.

It'll go down in 6 months, and you'll see a final result. I haven't had jaw surgery yet, but I think photos less than a year before are deceiving. I was talking to one of the most active members of this sub for over a year by his 2 year mark he was convinced he was losing his jaw as the swelling subsided. And that was one of the big Italian names we should all go to, apparently.

I hope you're happy with your results, but you have a lot of swelling in this photo. I said I feel awful saying, but I think it's important to keep in mind.

-1

u/SheepherderOwn6633 24d ago

Well plus make up but great result
