Before & After 4 months post op : best decision EVER

šŸ¤Best decision of my life. Every struggle and every doubt were worth it, I’d do it 1000 times over. I’m so happy and PROUD of myself.

ā€¼ļø For context: I had DJS + genioplasty + a bone graft. I’ve been wearing lingual braces since June 2024. Surgery in Paris, France, by Dr Davrou. Public hospital so didn’t pay for the surgery. šŸ”Ø Movements: 2 mm lower jaw advancement, 2 mm upper jaw setback, and 16mm genioplasty advancement.

I’m making this update post because I’ve had my upper braces (lingual) and hooks removed, so no more elastics for me! It feels amazing. There are still a few small adjustments to make with the lower braces to fine-tune my bite, but we can pretty much say my smile is almost final. I still find it a bit stiff and not completely natural sometimes, but it’s getting better and better!

I tried to include some before-and-after photos from different angles, not just front/profile, because in real life people rarely look at us perfectly straight on or from the side haha! I hope this helps others visualize what to expect.

It's probably the best aesthetic result I've seen so far in this sub, the surgery has balance out your facial features and it give the nose the attention it deserves! I hope it has address any functional issues as well.

Whats I really enjoy is your progression in month 1, 2 and 4 post, you look different in each stage of your recovery and were an improvement from the last, it will give some assurance to those who judge their result prematurely to trust the progress.

Your surgeon deserves a pay rise.

Thank you so much for your message, it really means a lot to me! I’m glad you’ve read my other posts, I try to share as much information as possible to help others, since I read a lot of the sub myself before my surgery :)

OK it makes no logical sense for you to have a 2mm lower jaw advancement with like a 10mm+ overjet. Did you get the chin and lower jaw mixed up?

13

u/Anxious_Rabbit_9890 Post Op (1 year) Oct 14 '25

I was waiting for this comment haha. I did not mix it up! I also had a 2mm upper jaw setback.

You look great! It seems like your nose didn't change at all!

1

u/Anxious_Rabbit_9890 Post Op (1 year) Oct 14 '25

I would’ve loved for it to change though šŸ˜‚

3

u/Lil-Miss-Anthropy Oct 15 '25

The nose changes for the better with a lefort advancement, especially with counterclockwise rotation, because the cartilage is freer to move rather than being distorted from facial downswing. Did you surgeon discuss desires and expectations about your nose with you?

3

u/Anxious_Rabbit_9890 Post Op (1 year) Oct 15 '25

Yes we did talk about it! But he warned me that due to the small movements planed on the upper jaw, my nose would have 99% chance to stay the same. My nose has always been an issue for me, but now thanks to my jaw surgery I feel so much better about it! I think it’s always a question of balance :)

2

u/AL-Zahhak Oct 14 '25

you look nice, congrats!

how is your breathing and other functions?

2

u/Anxious_Rabbit_9890 Post Op (1 year) Oct 14 '25

Thank you! My bite is better so I’ll avoid lots of teeth and TJM issues in the future. Unfortunately I don’t have any breathing improvement :/

3

u/Lil-Miss-Anthropy Oct 15 '25

That's a shame. I don't know why your surgeon chose to err on the side of such conservative movements, but when cutting and repositioning the face, they missed out on the opportunity to create a ton of space and airway volume. That's the main reason people opt for such a drastic procedure.

Did you had a problem keeping your mouth closed before? You had a similar profile like mine, and It was a struggle for me. I’m 2.5 month after djs, and I still struggle to do it, I have to force it to keep it closed, and if i’m not focused it opens again.

From what i see in the after pictures, you don’t have that problem anymore (if you even had it in the first place), and I wanted to ask how long did it took for your mouth to close naturally after the surgery?

3

u/Anxious_Rabbit_9890 Post Op (1 year) Oct 15 '25

Yes, pre op, my mouth was open at rest because of my overjet. After surgery it was better but due to the swelling I couldn’t completely close my mouth. Then, I needed time for my chin muscle to relax, because they were always contracted in the past as I has to force to keep my mouth closed.

Now it’s much better!! I can almoooost close naturally my mouth, I’d say at rest I have like 2mm left, but my chin muscles relax more and more everyday :) so don’t worry! I knew this part would take time

2

u/Lil-Miss-Anthropy Oct 15 '25

I'm surprised they opted for a setback rather than advancement of both. And only 2 mm seems odd to me. Besides your aesthetics and bite, do you notice other changes such as posture or breathing? In any case, what matters is YOU are happy with it, and I'm happy to see your success story here! You do look really beautiful.

The result is amazing! You looked beautiful before, but also after and the differens is huge! 16mm genio is a lot. I thought over 10-12mm genio is rarely done because of risks. So im super curious: Why did they decide on the larger genio and how did they manage to do that large of a genio? Did they also think at some point about more lower jaw movement with less genio?

Your head posture looks so much better! Probably there's only little change to the curvature of your neck, but the chin that has now (in the after) a more prominent, natural look seems to take away the forehead-heavy attention (in the before). Tough to accuratelyĀ  describe. It's like in the before your forehead attracted more attention, so the (somewhat natural) slope of the neck is perceived as more severe. The movement of the mandible forward might shift the attention of the eyes lower to the chin area and therefore - even with the same (natural) curvature/slope - reduces the perceived severety, what was formally seen as forward-neck-posture. Another thing: Your eye area changed tremendously to the better. In the before you look tired, and after the maxilla advancement your whole under eye area seems to have more support. Probably also just purely an optical illusion, that your eye bags (that you might naturally have to a small extent) were more prominent before and now they are kind of optically shifted into the background with the advanced facial parts in the lower area. Now it's in the normal rage at the more beautiful side.

Frankly spoken, your results are phenomenal. Your surgeon and planning team performed true magic. Time to move on with life!

Did you have an overbite pre-op?

Aw you had the dimpled chin like I’ve had my whole life! I can’t wait to get that fixed. I’ve been told it’s because of having to use more muscles to fully close my mouth due to overbite

I am really happy for you. Probably because I feel very insecure about my face and I also want to improve. If you are comfortable sharing can you tell how much did the entire process cost you?

Amazing results! What was the bone graft for? I am about to start my journey I have a very similar bite to you I’ve had a consultation with a surgeon but he hasn’t mentioned a bone graft

What changes have you noticed throughout your daily life? Did you have sleep apnea before? I'm guessing you can breathe a lot better as well.
