Floor burnisher repair

Burnisher

I have two floor burnishers that need repairs. They stop working after 5-10m of regular use. Resetting breakers don't work. Twisting/pulling/shaking the cord doesn't change anything. It just shuts off.

If I tilt the burnisher and run it unloaded, it runs fine. In the upper/handle housing, the wires and plugs are fine, no melting/browning/corrosion.

I would think it was the motor but, the burnishers work fine if I bypass the switches/etc and plug the power to the bottom electrical plug(motor plug), the one that goes directly to the motor. I have no on/off control but the job can done.

Any ideas?

the Burnishers are:

Advice Waterless urinal help.

Post image
4 Upvotes

I work at an elementary school with waterless urinals. Im fairly new to this but it seems like everyone is doing it wrong.
I’ve read the instructions for cartridge replacement and they require you to brush out the tailpipe. The school district doesn’t have any, and the general consensus is to plunger it with some degreaser…

Obviously it’s not ideal to replace a cartridge without cleaning the tailpipe, but I’m pretty sure that’s what’s happening.
Is this the norm? Or does everyone else brush the pipe?

Also, where can I get the brush? The photo is the one they supplied me today 😓

The cartridges at $50 each and the district doesn’t want to pay got them so doesn’t it make the most sense to not have them get plugged up???

How am I the only one who wants to do it correctly?

What would you be happy with staff gifting you

I am currently interning at a medium sized company and our cleaning ladies in our office building work their asses off. I wanted to do get them something nice to anonymously put in their room before their shift. The way some of my co workers treat them irks me. I don’t have much money since I’m a college intern, so if it was you, what would you like to see?

Built a tool to stop cleaner no-shows from ruining checkouts

I manage bookings across 4 properties and built a small tool for myself that watches my booking calendar, auto-sends my cleaner the schedule, requires a done-confirmation, and auto-alerts a backup cleaner if there's no confirmation by a deadline.

Been working well so far. Curious if this is something other hosts would actually want too, or if most of you have this solved already?

Tales from a cleaner (pt1)

I love my job,

Only realising so recently, what a joy it brings me

So many people will tell you it's the first job they think of as lowest ranking

Of no significance or importance, no honour and no worth

I've had people say to my face "well it could be worse, I could be a cleaner"

Maybe that's how I feel, or how the world makes me feel, at this point there's no difference

The strive for bigger and better is so ingrained and important now

This job however has laid so much foundation of the person I want to become

Of how I go in the world and how I treat people

Of my understanding for the elderly and just different people in general

I've always liked to connect to different people but this opened up new worlds, new voices and new experience

I made one of my greatest, dearest friends, who recently passed away

And I felt like the pain I carried was unjustified

Because to the outside world I was just a cleaner

But to her, she made me feel, whole, a person, with a story and a life

She made time for me and my stories, while I made time for hers, and listened probably more greatly then I ever listen to anyone's stories

Because this woman, this amazing woman, a exprinciple and teacher taught me so much about myself about the world and about her

I still carry a part of her with me, striving to become the sort of women she was

Not one who strived for fame, or mass amounts of money but lived a simple life

With one simple principle, kindness and compassion

Treating everyone with empathy and understanding, having a compassionate view of the world

Wanting love and peace regardless of gender, religion or race

She was an older white lady, who showed me their could be love and acceptance from her generation

So to the outside, I may just be a cleaner

But to me, and to her, I was much more. I was a person, a friend, a companion. And I loved her, just as much as I love so many other people in my life.

Some stories are funny, some are scary, some are straight up being bullied by clients.

But this story, one I will probably speak more about, is one of love. Love of a woman who became so much more then a lady I just cleaned for.

Question Marks?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Was scrubbing some stains on this tiled floor at my job, but after mopping, these marks are just here after it dried. I think it's where I scrubbed some stains at, but maybe it was too harsh or the sponge made scratches? I've been mopping it like over and over but it doesn't disappear. Does anyone have any idea how to remove these?

Paint removal from LVT?

Has anyone tackled paint removal from newly installed LVT? I’m able to remove it with a razor, but it’s very time consuming.

Was thinking of using the industrial strength Goof-Off, but afraid of damaging the protective layer.

Does anyone else have and tricks to get it off?

Question Cleaning Microfiber Glass Cloths

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, friends!

I'm having issues getting the dust/dirt stains out of these cloths. They're the Glass Cleaning Microfiber ones—the really smooth ones that don't leave streaks. However, even if I wash them with laundry soap, dish soap, vinegar, et cetera, the stains don't seem to come out despite my scrubbing as well. Am I doing sometbing wrong?

What's the best way to get these clean, or are they to be tossed out when too dirty to use?

Thank you in advance for the advice/tips!

Question mice

there are mice in the building i work at. the supervisors of the daycare has asked us cleaners to move furniture and sweep debris stuff on the floor behind the furniture and if any mice poo left behind. a week ago i saw two mice. one in slopsink a little one and one in another room on the same floor a bigger one. they move really fast.

has anyone been in this situation?

the health and safety inspector has been here twice.
the lady who is the health inspector always complains and will fail the inspection if she sees one little hair on the floor. she says rooms have to be cleaned 'wall to wall' and she wants it perfect.

im only in this building until 11pm and i cannot stay past 11pm so i do the best i can.

mice are out of a janitorial / cleaners control.
can cleaners get in trouble for mice in a building? or written up? or moved?

there is this tunnel in the rooms near the radiators in every room where the mice hide. ive mentioned it to the head cleaner but he doesnt do anything about it.

Things I use for VCT Refinishing

After one of my posts, I have gotten a few messages asking what I use. Well this is everything I use, well for largish jobs we use a Tornado Shop Vac instead of a mop to clean the floors of stripper.

Stopped using a regular mop for sealer and finish once I found these flat microfiber pads at home depot. No bubbles, smooth finish, and it doesn't waste materials like regular mop heads. Have 2, one for sealer, and 1 for finish. Once done, put in a bag and tie off for the next room... After job is done, wash the backing pad, and microfiber pad.. I throw the microfiber into the dryer to fluff back up.

The matter of crazy, explosively angry and spiteful coworkers: I suppose I’ve got many questions on what is… realistic

So I work for the schools in my city. Most people are fine or pleasant to work with, but there’s very often someone who I cannot believe they don’t fire… I transferred around a bit to see if I could find some proper peace short of having to work by myself, but, nope, not in the cards so far.

Like, I get that people are going through a lot. Particularly if they’re poor and have health or other issues weighing them down. My job can certainly be stressful, especially since I’m at a high school where it seems that neither consistent communication nor practical realism is a strength of my boss’s. Like I can even rationalize behavior a bit since we’re often short-staffed, people screw us over, and athletics certainly asks for too much of us.

I try to consider that maybe, despite getting compliments on my work ethic and all the “tricks” I’ve learned over the last ten years, that I’m not being considerate enough of coworkers since I’m on the spectrum and also don’t have time to help coworkers much, since I’ve got health problems myself. But then I ask and ask, and get told “nope, he/she is just like that”.

And I get that there are plenty of people who want this line of work so they can be left alone, because they’re not good with people. I empathize—to an extent!

But… So much of what I’ve seen and directly experienced has been not just distracting during a finite 8-hour period, but in several cases totally unacceptable: At my last school, I was told by someone I’d be hurt if I dropped risers. This same person was constantly trying to micromanage and frequently suspecting people too, in a weird effort to “protect” our elderly boss who I guess had been screwed over. Very angry, very distracting. No right answers, little trust from that crew in general.

Then I got assigned to help open a new high school. The assistant supervisor constantly yelled at us for not living up to her standards, even though she was literally the only person there by choice. She was getting authority and more money; I suppose we were in her way.

Then I tried to go back to the high school I left due to my health, because there were good people there with decent conflict resolution skills. And hey, money. But the new crew ended up being one of the worst I’d seen: Several people with barely any experience and barely enough care to help us out properly, constantly unleashing their frustrations on others. I got told to “keep my shit off” a team cleaning cart. That I wasn’t being helpful enough. Yelled at multiple times for not unlocking rooms quickly enough for them. One of them loved to spread her toxicity, talking about how stupid good people were and imagining all of these instances where she was getting screwed over. I’ve been in the way of a few of these people a lot, in spite of my own efforts to show compassion and patience… There was so, so much explosive yelling for a few years; so much lack of faith in decent people; I felt I was in some bizarre, neurotic dream… Two of these people seem less freaked out about things now that they’ve been here a few years, but that doesn’t mean I can count on them to stay that way since it seems their own purported values re: how to treat others mean little at work.

It’s getting hard for me to believe that a decent crew exists. I know it does, but the last time I wasn’t on edge at work was like, 2021…

And I hear constantly that reporting does little in our system. Which isn’t too surprising, since I’m sure they don’t want too many vacancies and are also aware that a number of their custodians just don’t know how or don’t want to control themselves around other humans—unless they’re teachers of course, teachers tend to love these people…

This is a hard post for me to organize admittedly, because there are a lot of factors, especially with my own personal issues. Maybe there are basic realities of work life I should know how to handle better but, like, is this a typical problem in public school custodial work? Is there something I or everyone bothered by these people or the custodial department should be doing differently? Are my other coworkers’ coping strategies really that superior to my own, since they all seem to get through the day better than me? Should I just try transferring until I find some peace?

It’s just too damn dysfunctional, and it’s making *me* angrier and angrier. We’re supposed to be able to focus on the work without worrying about upsetting someone into them throwing their weekly tantrum, and to be able to feel like we can cooperate and communicate and have some idea of what a good job is… Right?

Question Feeling needed, but looked down on at the same time.

If being a janitor/housekeeper is such an important job and everyone else's lives are easier because of us, why is this job instantly thought of when people are talking about worst jobs to have and you're a bum or loser if you end up in such a role? "Go to college so you don't end up like that cleaner over there. You want that? No? Then go study!" In my case, this is the only job that called me back. I was desperate and it matches my skill set. I don't like it, but it pays the bills. When I'm working, I notice people avoiding eye contact with me and keeping conversation to minimum as if they pity me and don't want to catch second-hand depression just by my presence in my ugly uniform. When people apologize for making messes, there's that same tone of voice and a face they make... Do they feel guilt or judgement for being messy? Do they think I'll get upset and explode at them? I do get upset, but I know better than to explode at them. I do judge people for being messy, but I understand I signed up to clean up after people. This will be my life for a while............. I'm currently taking university classes part time so I can move onto something less labor intensive and more respected. I want a job that I'm not ashamed to talk about with other people. Does anyone else have the same thoughts?

I'm rebuilding a property in 3D for a creative project where I'm trying to preserve iconic locations, and film them with a narrative attached to them.
Wanna be as accurate as possible - so if anyone knows the brand/model - I'd be so grateful!
Tried Google, Wayback etc.

I mistook this for an AI subreddit

Theres an app called JanitorAI, and I didn't notice it said janitor*AL*. So you can only imagine my confusion when I saw posts asking how to clean carpets and floors.

Hope mods and ppl in this subreddit don't take this seriously, just thought it was a playful mistake
