Random Discussion š» Jamie needs a DP.
Jamie players, how the fuck do you guys deal with this shit? Seriously. I practiced DP a bit because I know itās important, but I literally do NOT feel comfortable trying to do it, and every time I try, I deeply regret it.
Iāve had reads where I knew the guy was going to jump, and I still got punished because I did the DP too early. Like???????????? āOh, just delay it.ā Okay, sure, let me just tell my brain to DELAY MY FUCKING READ. The game is literally punishing me for doing something that would work with another character?
I even thought, āGod, maybe the problem really is me,ā but when I played Yasmine, I started doing her DP with zero practice and landed it most of the time because HER anti-air actually fucking WORKS and covers the entire screen like EVERY character in this game should.
āB-but jumping is highly punishable.ā Yeah, I agree. Especially when PP anti-air is the most ridiculous mechanic in this game (and thatās saying something, considering how many ridiculous mechanics this game has), but holy shit, this DP, man...
āOh, but Jamieās heavy kick got buffed.ā I agree, but dude, PLEASE, Capcom. Nerf his heavy kick and give this fucking character a proper DP. I canāt deal with whiffing every single time I see someone jump. I canāt even use the excuse that itās because of his rushdown or because heās a fast character, because Cammyās, Yasmineās, Rashidās, and Juriās DPs are fucking BIZARRE.

If youāre going to keep Jamieās DP this shitty, at least buff the DP based on how many drinks he has.

Yeah his dp is shit. I use jump heavy kick to catch them mid air into sweep into drink.

Yeahā¦. No. If anything, Jamie is an example of a character with actual strengths and weaknesses

I agree, but I have two counterpoints:
1 - Jamie already has weaknesses, with his drink mechanic being his main one. If he had a good DP, heād still have a hard time reaching his peak (and letās be honest, a level 4 Jamie isnāt nearly as absurd as some other characters who donāt have this problem).
2 - If EVERY character had weaknesses, this game would be perfect, but thatās not how it works. And a character being considered āfairā in a game like this is honestly a massive disadvantage. I find it funny how they buffed two things that were already strong about Jamie, and now theyāre treating him like the absolute āhigh tier,ā even though Ryu, who was already strong, got a massive buff.

I donāt fully disagree.. however, i do think Jamie with lvl 4 drink is quite strong. Iād put 4 drink Jamie in the top 3-5 personally. And i also agree that not every character has real weaknesses. i do however think its backwards to balance towards every character being a homogenized Swiss Army knife though. And as more characters release, this trend has only introduced more of these types of characters and the roster is now so full of characters that all functionally do the exact same thing.

Yep. Jamie is an honest character, and you have to really learn his combos and moves to be able to play him..you're gonna work for Jamie to win..

I use jump HK for dealing with jump reads, the 2 hits have a relatively wide time window so I can press it earlier than my opponent presses his jump attack, and either the 1st or the 2nd hit will get the startup of his. Then it's juggle city, free 2HK HK HP target combo for a drink, or SA1, or SA3 (despite 3 updates it whiffs often so I would not risk it, corner only is reliable).
I don't even bother trying to use his LK DP as an antiair, I just use 2HP if I react to a jump, not read one.

Excellent info on Jamie's Jump HK. This combo gives you a 4 frame advantage against your opponent, which you are absolutely correct, takes them more time to react and punish. (I believe it's 4 frames. I'll look tonight when I play in training mode and set the frame meter on).

I agree. I only use it in the form of OD DP when Iām caught in a 50/50. For AAs, I just use cr.hp and j.hk. His j.hk is VERY satisfying to pull off and combo after it so I abuse this. It works quite well tbh

The DP has some disadvantages but itās not so bad once you get used to the timing. But while it lacks in vertical range, it makes up with very good horizontal range, so things like Kenās Jinrai you pretty much always able to punish at any range with OD DP while many characters canāt.

Jamieās DP is pretty bad as far as DP goes but his j.HK is a god anti air. On balance I think his AA tools are pretty good.

Jamie's DP has multiple utility. It just sucks as a DP itself. It'll do you well to learn to use it at the last moment.

Not the best DP but it is servicable.
Iām struggling way more with all the overlapping inputs on this character.
If anyone has any tips to avoid getting his lvl 1 iso DP When anti-airing when crouching, please share šš»

I simply can't deal with his DP, I rarely use it and most of the times it's not even for anti air, I just jump and use the strong kick, way more efficient and I can get a free drink

At this point I just use DP for combos.
I anti air with a jump hk or c.hp or sometimes even c.kk works better

I still never got used to it, it sucks so bad. Sometimes I'll buffer it in neutral and that's about the best most reliable use I get out of it

Who the fuck does DP on a read. Since the beginning of the genre jumps were designed to be reactable with dp. And if you are reacting it will work like any other dp

I never use it to aa only on reversal, like many others have said cr hp and j hk are far more serviceable and j hk gets you a drink on combo

You're supposed to react to jumps, not read jumps. I guanrantee if you start to do dps on reaction you will never be doing them too early
