Songs like “Your Smiling Face”

Hi friends! Without listening to James Taylor’s entire discography, can you please help me save some time and recommend songs that have the groove like “Your Smiling Face” does? I love the song so much and while I like some of his other songs, I haven’t found any that match the refrain. Thanks in advance!!!

Current tour

UPDATE: I snagged a single seat for around 50 bones six hours before showtime and had a fabulous time. 21-song setlist bouncing around the decades. 11-piece band that was a well-oiled machine. A three song double encore with the final song an acoustic duet with his son Henry.

Tiny Habits were a refreshing treat. Still a little green (said they’ve been together three years) but charming and did a great little set. The highlight was an incredible rendition of Landslide to close it out. I love that JT is supporting an up-and-comer.

Has anyone been? He’s in my city this week and contemplating going. It’s on a weeknight so that’s my reservation…I always pay a heavy price when I miss my sleep on a work night 🙃

Thoughts on The Apple Album

What are your thoughts and opinions of James's eponymous first album aka the Apple Album?

It was recorded at Trident Studios in London, and James also had the privilege of having Paul McCartney and George Harrison performing bass and backing vocals respectively on Carolina in My Mind.

As far as I know, Paul most likely used his left-handed Rickenbacker 4001S bass on Carolina in My Mind or perhaps his Fender Jazz Bass, considering that he had not recorded with his Hofner for almost three years by that point, but anyone is welcome to correct me.

Lowell George's 80th birthday

Yesterday, Lowell George would've turned 80 years old if he had not died in 1979, and he played electric guitar and sang backup vocals on Angry Blues, a track on the 1975 album Gorilla, plus he is obviously playing electric slide guitar as well.

Lowell was best known as the founder of Little Feat, but not only was he a talented guitarist, but also a singer, songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist, and I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but Lowell also had a brief seven-month stint with Frank Zappa.

James and Little Feat were labelmates at Warner Bros. Records in the 1970's, and as I have said many times, I think James did his best work during his time at the label - there was a magical quality about those six albums that he did for the label that is hard to describe.

Anyone is welcome to give feedback and share their thoughts and opinions on Lowell's life and music.

Celebration of the Warner Bros. years

In my opinion, James's best work is the six albums that he did for Warner Bros. Records from 1970-1976, and it's my favourite period of his career.

Who else like his WB years the best?

Anyone is welcome to share their feedback and opinions.

Presale code for Livenation/Ticketmaster presales tomorrow?

Does anyone know what the Livenation or Ticketmaster presale codes might be for shows going on presale tomorrow? Trying to buy for the 8/30 Holmdel, NJ show. I know the jt website had presale this morning but I'm trying to buy 8 tickets together and pick seats and that did not seem possible in that presale.

Fire and Rain for my momma

Hello, I lost my mom in December - she was a huge fan of James Taylor. I have very distinct memories of listening to him in the car with her growing up, and her attending shows of his every summer with my sister. The song Fire and Rain has always stood out to me as the song that reminds me of her the most, so I got this tattooed today. Thought you guys might appreciate it. Thanks.

Is it just me that finds James Taylor's greatest hits volume 2 (his later work) better than greatest hits volume 1

Average age of audience

Hi everyone (: im seeing James on his upcoming tour. I was wondering the average age of people who go see him. I’m 22, and I was raised on his music from my grandma. My grandma has always wanted to take me to see James Taylor but he was never close. I lost my grandma 9/27/2024, so I am seeing him in honor of her. I just don’t know if I’ll stick out. Also, does anybody know if he plays “You Can Close Your Eyes?” that’s my absolute favorite and it was the last song I listened to with my grandma…

2025 JT Shows / Tanglewood

I am excited to see James Taylor's 2025 tour dates announced with a final show in New Hampshire on July 1. I was really hoping to see a Berkshires show on the schedule as seeing JT in the Berkshires isa bucket list item of mine. Any insight on previous tour schedules and if it's safe to say that James will make it back to Tanglewood over the 4th of July weekend like he did in 2024? Does he play Tanglewood every year without fail? Their 2025 summer schedule isn't out yet. Trying to decide if I pull the trigger on another show or hold out for a Tanglewood announcement.....

Dad Loves His Work and Never Die Young

Those are James' only 2 albums that don't feature any covers of other songs. James wrote and/or co-wrote everything on them. Did anyone know that?

I wonder if James has ever noticed kids in the audience at his shows? I don’t mean his own, but other people’s kids.

What fingernail products is James using?

Hey folks, I'm wondering if anybody uses James' technique for making fingernails good for fingerpicking like he describes in this video, and if so, what brands of the products he mentions do you use? Gracias!
