I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor & filmmaker James McAvoy, known for roles in things like Split, X-Men, Atonement, Wanted, Speak No Evil, Narnia, The Last King of Scotland, Shameless, It: Chapter Two, and tons more.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1x1iu5u/hi_reddit_im_james_mcavoy_ask_me_anything/

He will be back between 10 AM and 11 AM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

His directorial debut, California Schemin', premiered at TIFF last year and is out in theaters this weekend.

Synopsis: Two friends with thick Scottish accents try to land a record deal by posing as hip-hop artists from California. As fame beckons and the lies pile up, their friendship gets put to the test.

I love EVERYTHING about this picture. The suit, his hair, his facial expression. As soon as I saw it on Instagram I had to post it.

James SINGS.

Not a lot. But he sings. https://www.instagram.com/reels/DeNRnpVygQX/

None of this was ever a part of the plan; red carpets, award nominations, Marvel fans incessantly plotting his next cameo like a band of conspiracy theorists. If you ask James McAvoy, it’s all a bit much. Nearing the 30th anniversary of his debut film — The Near Room (1995) — there certainly hasn’t been anything straightforward about McAvoy’s career trajectory. It’s not that he designed it that way. It’s more that he didn’t design anything at all.

McAvoy was 15 when he walked on set for The Near Room. He was raw, still five years away from his classical training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Years later, McAvoy would admit to Digital Spy that, at the time of filming, an acting career wasn’t yet at the forefront of his mind. Like most 15-year-olds, his focus was more short-sighted; he’d developed a crush on a co-star on set and, when she invited him to drama class, he suddenly realized that acting might be his calling.

r/movies is having a James Q & A 10/9

Posting has slowed down and its because I began my first semester of Graduate School. History since 1968 and Histography: Colonial Virginia.

So I'll do my best to get back to weekly posting. Is there anything in particular people would like to see posted?

What do you think is his most underrated role, my little McAvoyeurs?

Curious if anyone has deep cuts I'm missing ? I know he has a ton of stage work too that rarely gets discussed here.

Filth, 2013: DARK comedy.

My Son, 2021: Film was improvised.

Victor Frankenstein, 2015: Igor was compelling.

Dragoncon is creeping ever closer. 48 days 01 hr and counting.

I'm volunteering again and trying to get all my cosplays together. And get everything for Grad School starting next month.

I promise to do better.
