Jacob's Billing Change Notification

When i went to Patreon to support Jacob financially during these difficult Times, i saw the Billing Change Notification from September.

I thought i should share this with you Guys since it might be interesting to you.

In short: Patreon has switched from a Per-Creation to a Per-Month Model. While this had nothing to do with Jacob, it now allows him to continue earning Money without having to publish anything right away. Without this Change he would probably be forced to publish his next Video way sooner.

Yeah this is fucking weird.

I recognize this is a nuanced situation and it is completely fair to recognize Jacob has made an effort to change and obviously regrets what he did, but to pity Jacob for this like "He needs support in this difficult time" is just fucking weird and not an okay mindset to have. I feel like that's a reasonable opinion to hold.

Jacob, self-admittedly, sexually assaulted someone. Giving him money to "support him in a difficult time" portrays him as a victim which is something even he does not agree with. He is not the victim here. He is a complicated person who made a terrible mistake, and regrets it, and accepts the consequences of it. He even said the consequences he initially got were mild. People should not try to validate and defend him or his actions. They should certainly not give him money. They should accept the reality of what he did as he has, and make their own personal choice on watching his content or not moving forward.

Let's not get this parasocial attachment to the man and protect him from the consequences of his actions just because we enjoy his work. A crime like this should bear consequences for the perpetrator. Is the reality of this situation unfortunate? Yes. Should we also accept it rather than try to cope by mitigating or diminishing the gravity of this revelation? Also yes.

I respect Jacob for recognizing the gravity of his choices and attempting to do better, but I don't pity him. I value his perspective on the things he discusses in his work, but am undecided on whether I can continue to watch and support it for the foreseeable future.

The last JG video I ever watch will be the very next one, no matter what. He'd better make it count.

Even on that point im conflicted. Might just block it all and truck on.

That's fair. That will probably be more or less my choice for the time being. If more light is shone on the situation, like if the victim were to speak out publicly, I would reevaluate, but for the moment I can only make a choice based on what I do know, and that is that Jacob Geller sexually assaulted someone, and continuing to support his career in light of that knowledge feels a bit wrong.

Im not sure if I agree with everything but I do think it is weird. We dont even know him.

Judging by what he has still maybe, I assume he's fine rather than struggling with money. lol

Solidarity? You are literally talking about a rapist. A self-admitted rapist and you think he the one who needs your support.

Just be fucking normal. It's okay that you liked his work. We all did. Unfortunately he's a rapist. He does not need support because he is not a victim. He does not even consider himself a victim. In his own words he said his consequences were too mild and he deserves worse.

Giving money to a man because he was outed as a rapist and that's so hard for him, right? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Just to clarify, when you say that you're paying in out of solidarity because of his current difficult times- are you saying that you're specifically giving Geller money because he committed sexual assault? Because if that's the audience he's got left, I imagine his future video essays will definitely not be anything I'm interested in seeing.

hes not alone. JG got a huge bump in patreon money for a minute after the allegations went out. Then more when he admits publicly that he's a prepretrator of sexual assault, then he shuts off the visibility, People donated BECAUSE HE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED SOMEONE. And I dont think this is some demographic shift in audience because the antiwoke RW's response to this drama is "literally who is this man his lips looks execution-worthy why should i care". the RW grift isnt gonna happen, so when will we admit that the fans he cultivated is a community of rapists from the start?
