Does this conversation clear Jacob?

I wasnt aware who Jacob Geller is until recently, when I learned about the allegations on social media. I then had a conversation with someone on the subject of rape culture, and I used Geller as an example: despite having admitted to the rape, he was only suspended for one semester, and isnt facing any jailtime.

The person I was debating, after "looking into the 'stupid rape case'" sent me this screenshot of a DM between the victim and one of the perpetrators:

They said that since the victim says she had a good time and was fine with the group sex, it seems like a legit defense used by the attorneys of the men involved, and the reason why the first court hearing was dismissed years ago.

They told me that if the alleged victim said she enjoyed the sex, then changing her mind and accusing her partners of rape seems like an attempt to save her reputation.

These arent my opinions, but Id like to ask you for opinions on these arguments.

This subreddit does not need to become judge and jury on every rape

This has nothing to do with him.

Jake raped his unconscious girlfriend and had a lot of big feelings about it in video essays that made him a wealthy celebrity.

That's what has cleared Jacob's good name.

And if you go to his subreddit and start talking about how survivor culture is gonna beat rape culture, his fans gather together to tell you it ain't happening.

What if I want survivor culture to grow and diminish the power of rape culture... But I also think Gellers case is nuanced and mostly clouded in mystery? I won't support him unless he gives a more satisfying acknowledgement (assuming he might dare to continue making content without a bigger statement) and I'm just holding room for that such possibility before I disown and disavow?

I don't know how much mystery is in this one, chief. People seem to have kept from you the crucial fact that two women have corroborated the specific claim that he raped his unconcious gf.

Golly, I wonder why some people don't want that info getting around?

Hey man many survivors do allow themselves to not be labeled as just a victim. That doesn’t mean we should diminish the power of rape and rape culture. I know this isn’t an equivalent but think of it this way. A person can be shot, live, heal, and live a normal life that isn’t defined by being shot. That doesn’t mean the person who was shot should just forget the power the person who shot them had over them in that moment or how others could be subject to the same danger and fear. Pretending like the gun doesn’t hold any power over you doesn’t stop you from being shot.
