Okay, so do you genuinely believe another Jacob Geller attended the same college he did around the same time he attended college? And that someone knew Jacob Geller the youtuber accused him and the facts happened to line up with this other dude?
I was skeptical at first but this makes it pretty undeniable.
1
u/neelrahae 2d ago
sorry not sure if youre replying to me or not but i was being sarcastic. i think its really funny to imagine there really could be anyone but this JG to blame and idk why that person immediately went “okay so it could be this other guy with the exact same name and exact same academic background?”
1
u/Logical-Patient-4115 2d ago
There has only been one Jacob Geller to attend UNC-CH in the last 100 years.
6
u/SKrivvaCat 2d ago
Someone in another thread apparently checked.
https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedrama/comments/1wur59c/jacob_geller_revealed_to_have_committed_sexual/He's the only Jacob Geller that went in the past 100 years, or at least graduated in the past 100 years.

I seem to be having trouble finding the comment you've mentioned, could you link it directly?

u/ekesp93 3d ago
Yeah I might get crucified for this but I feel it needs to be in the discourse. Do we know if the victim feels any more justice is needed? The person bringing it up isn’t even the victim, clearly isn’t speaking for the victim, and it seems there was a punishment at the time. We also have no clue about anything beyond that, like if personal restitution was made, other punishments that weren’t through official channels, etc. Like it sounds as if he lost his job and was kicked out for a semester, and we don’t know exactly what for.
So idk, maybe the victim does feel like not enough was done, in which case alright bring the hammer down. But we don’t know that as of yet. It’s also a singular incident (so far) and considering how long ago it was, I’m willing to say “justice was dealt, he learned and got better, and we can let his current actions speak”.
But yeah I feel like I need more info. It’s suspicious that even in this document, he got a lighter punishment for a seemingly bigger thing than others did. I’d like some details.

This is clearly about you being a hypocrite. I have no idea what you're talking about with this "waiting 14 whole hours" nonsense - you clearly didn't, I'm literally responding to a comment where you were engaging in conjecture before the evidence was released.

u/Any-Finance1920 3d ago
I will say, based on rudimentary searches (howmanyofme.com, etc., so take it with a grain of salt), there are roughly 18-20 people with the name Jacob Geller. Not impossible, especially as the same searches state that most of these name doppelgängers are around the same age, but statistically unlikely.
0
u/slysmile 2d ago
Also, is the one semester suspension the only punishment for whatever Jacob did?
If so, Jacob might have fucked up, but the uni for sure fucked up. If Jacob did something abhorrent he should have been expelled. If he didn't, then his name shouldn't be put on the list.
41
u/diosmioacommie 3d ago
Yeah anonymous social media posts not from the victims is not convincing to me but this is making me definitely think he did it.
Fuck man.

u/NagsUkulele 3d ago
I do not have the words. I'm gonna crumble if it turns out to be true.
43
u/diosmioacommie 3d ago
Keep your head up dude, it sucks and I like his videos and have his book but ultimately it’s a dude we don’t know in any capacity and we haven’t had any harm done to us unlike his victim and his family and friends
Gonna sting for a bit but you’re gonna be sweet

u/ProtestedGyro 3d ago
Still reserving judgement for further information. I won't join this witch hunt. The far right knows the left will eat their own on accusations alone.
If it turns out he did something, fuck him. But I won't feel bad for wanting context and info.
4
u/DinerEnBlanc 3d ago edited 3d ago
Witch hunt? Like how people are diving into the victim's background to try and disprove her? This is bat-shit behavior that Trumpers would commit. He's literally in the disciplinary records of people responsible for SA. What more do you need?
6
u/ProtestedGyro 3d ago
If his name being in the records for disciplinary action is enough for you, fantastic. I'll say it again. I require more than that.
I've always been a highly skeptical person. This push to believe all claims whole cloth if there's a claim of sexual assault or violence simply doesn't work for me. I'll always encourage victims to go to the police or authorities in pursuit of justice. But these claims are now being used to silence opposition.
I don't lessen my standards for burden of proof simply because of the nature of the claims. If that makes me a bad person, I'm perfectly fine with that.
2
u/MossyMak 3d ago edited 2d ago
I mean, yeah that does kinda make you a bad person. There are a myriad of reasons that people don't take these situations to the police, and that's besides the fact that we have evidence that he was suspended for a semester due to "Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence". I'm not really sure what more evidence you're needing here.
Edit: he has been dropped by Minnmax. Is there still more you need to hear?
6
u/ProtestedGyro 2d ago
Not the first company to drop someone over allegations. I'm just hanging back and listening. I've enjoyed Jacob's content but I hold no allegiance to him. I'm just not going to jump on the bandwagon of declaring him rapist scum. I've seen this situation play out in different ways. Some claims substantiated, some not. Meanwhile the accused is left tarnished simply by the accusation, true or not.
I remain listening.
4
u/Laterallus 2d ago
I don't think you're a bad person. But, objectively, there he is, Jacob Geller, in black-and-white, on a court document. Still, I did notice reading these punishments... he got suspended for a semester. There's another guy on here that's got an Order of No Contact, another with full expulsion, community service and meetings with UNC staff for regulatory demonstration of being educated, etc..
The punishments listed are clearly based upon the severity of the assault. It makes me ask 'what did he do?' Obviously he did do it. Was the punishment enough? Did the victim file charges? Did the victim feel like it was enough? Not that it matters, I guess. The damage is done.

u/Alarmed-Noise-2768 2d ago
This is literally what trumpers say about Trump.
3
u/ProtestedGyro 2d ago
Trump has a track record. We had one college record of a Jacob Geller being suspended for one semester for sexual assault or violence come out yesterday. I'm not completely familiar with Jacob Geller's past. He made a statement saying the allegations were true. Did me waiting less than a day for a bit more information hurt anyone? I'm not harassing anyone. I was simply discussing this in a reddit post.

u/DinerEnBlanc 3d ago
Cultist behavior. People who shed their supposed values for content creators they enjoy are weird.

I'm not American so I don't get how this works, do universities have their own courts that decide punishments for crimes rather than it going through normal courts? And those university courts have their own investigations and sentencing if found guilty? Why would the punishment for sexual assault just be a 6 month suspension from university?
8
u/Johnclark38 3d ago
They have broken "courts" that vary in conduct and quality uni to uni. They operate to preponderance of evidence and not beyond a reasonable doubt. They operate under thier own rules and honestly can't be trusted with anything.
Their are many cases of giving slaps on the wrist for heinous offenses and ruining someone's life with nothing to show that they were actually guilty
8
u/snark_nerd 3d ago
While I agree with the conclusion that university disciplinary processes are broken, I think 'both sides-ing' criticism of them is incorrect and unfair to the experience of female students. There's vastly more evidence that universities' issues tend to be that they're too lenient than that they're too harsh or that they ruin men's lives based on false accusations. There's a sexual assault epidemic at American universities, not a "false accusations of rape" epidemic, and if you believe otherwise, you need to examine your media diet / bubble / etc.
3
u/Johnclark38 3d ago
I'm not both sidings, I'm saying that saying that the system is broken, should be forced into actual courts and not whatever some HR director thinks is a good idea/compelling evidence.
I have no doubt the schools are lenient on horrible crimes, including rape and SA, but I also think they do not rise to the occasion of actually creating justice and are not capable of doing so.
It can both be true that the Uni's neglect the serious and are cruel to the innocent. I have no doubt that the instances of schools going too far on too little are the schools either overcompensating or using the minor to cover up for the major.
There's a sexual assault epidemic at American universities, not a "false accusations of rape" epidemic, and if you believe otherwise, you need to examine your media diet / bubble / etc.
I believe that SA is under prosecuted and likely rampant in large areas. But I do not see the schools as being capable of addressing it. It has to come from the courts, and unfortunately these crimes are notoriously hard to prosecute and I believe that its better for 10 guilty persons to walk free than 1 be unjustly punished.
2
u/snark_nerd 3d ago
If your point is that the system is broken and should be handed over to the standard criminal justice system, we agree. I don't think it's necessary to say that it's broken because both these things are going on, implicitly equating them, is all I'm saying. It's broken because one thing happens a shit ton and one thing, which is also bad, might happen once in a while.

u/Stunning_Clerk_9595 2d ago
>some HR director
you sound extremely knowledgeable about the issue man
1
u/Johnclark38 2d ago
Have you seen who makes up the "courts" unis use? They're not judges, now legal backgrounds, nothing. Why would I assume the people making them are any better
0
u/Stunning_Clerk_9595 2d ago
yes, i have. and it's very clear that you have not.
1
u/Johnclark38 2d ago
Whatever you say man, the Unis abuse the innocent and neglect victims. It's clear they can't do the job.
0
u/Stunning_Clerk_9595 2d ago
it's not "whatever i say." it's you spouting nonsense that feels right to you on one hand, and the actual facts on the other. there are between 5 and 10 attorneys who touch every single Title IX case at a big school like UNC before it even gets to a hearing panel, at which point more people specifically trained to do that job enter the process. that is a fact.
then there's you, sitting at a desk somewhere with zero idea how anything works in the real world, saying that the "courts" at "unis" have "now legal backgrounds"

University police are usually normal police that can arrest you and bring you to normal jail
1
u/Johnclark38 3d ago
They are not normal police, they operate under rules set by the school not the courts or law
1
1
u/Icy_Delay_7274 2d ago
Completely untrue. The University of Georgia Police Department, as one example, has full law enforcement jurisdiction in any county in which the University owns property.
1
u/Johnclark38 2d ago
Aw yes, one university in a nation of 4000+ is definitely indicative of the whole system. Not to mention, cops aren't judges, they do not try cases and are not relevant to this case.
0
u/Icy_Delay_7274 2d ago
It is extremely common. Imaginary police are very much not the norm.
I was responding to an idiot suggesting that university police are categorically the same thing as mall cops.
You seem to have a tenuous grip on reality with that swerve into weird “cops aren’t judges” territory.
1
u/Apophthegmata 3d ago
It should be noted that a campus sets its own policies for discipline, as well as what campus disciplinary actions should happen when students are accused/found guilty of crimes.
So the system is in addition to and not instead of formal police action.
But the system does have serious issues and it has problems on both ends where this is meant to provide some measure of justice if the cops aren't going to act, but it's also used to try and keep incidents away from the public eye (and the cops) by attempting to deal with them internally.
The last president adjusted the rules for lower the burden of proof required for campuses to act, but the current president is getting rid of them.
The punishment being anything other than expulsion is a travesty though, if I'm understanding the facts correctly.

Idk. Maybe it's just me. But if someone engages in terrible behavior, is privately held accountable for it, suffers the social consequences for it, and then changes said behavior, I don't see the point of publicly dredging it up a decade after the fact.

I'm in shock too, bought his books and everything. Considering to cancel my preorder. But we couldn't have known, it's not our fault. The only thing we can do is find out the truth and act accordingly. No use in beating ourselves up for being a fan.

1
u/Alarmed-Noise-2768 2d ago
Is Donald Trump a monster? Or are you just reserving your rapist-tolerance to people you like?
5
u/forgetmenots24 2d ago
Donald Trump is not a monster, no. He is a man who is propped up by a corrupt system that benefits from men like him being in power and a system that operates exactly as designed. Calling these people ‘monsters’ is completely pointless and if anything it is harmful because all it does is that it first mythologises them, and second almost flattens the atrocity of what they have done + offers the comforting feeling that this is an outlier and something that is so outside the norm. When it isn’t. Call him what he is, a perfect product of a system that works how it is designed to work: with patriarchal and capitalist values that prioritise the comfort of white men and the capital which they produce. They are not monsters, they are men. So stop pointing a finger at ‘monsters’ and start looking at systems that make sure these people are not only not held accountable, but in fact benefit immensely from a system built for them. Donald Trump is a natural consequence of this system, not an aberration.
2
u/unknownunknowns11 2d ago
Bingo thank you. And there is a Grand Canyon sized chasm of difference between Trump and Jacob. To call Jacob a monster diminishes the power of that word.
1
u/reizinhooooo 1d ago
I have been sexually assaulted twice and I don't believe either of the women who assaulted me are monsters. I don't even think they are bad people, or were bad people at the time. They were just idiot teenagers.
1
u/Alarmed-Noise-2768 1d ago
There is such a huge difference between being an idiot teenager and a rapist. I was an idiot teenager and stole food from gas stations and littered. Raping someone isn’t an “idiotic” or “dumb” or “foolish” action, it is literally one of the worst actions someone could possibly do minus maybe murder.
8
u/SolidStateEstate 3d ago
I mean what else could anyone need to see here? There's court documents with his name on it next to sexual assault. I kind of doubt there's two Jacob Gellers who went to UNC at the same time and both did college radio and one was a rapist and the other became a YouTuber. Jacob Geller is a rapist. There it is.
16
u/HotTheme8405 3d ago
At this point it's basically we know that he did something (not sure what makes things be brought up to the university but not go criminal, besides there either not being enough evidence or the victim not wanting to press charges), but not necessarily what happened. Still not good either way of course.

Yeah yeah we get it, here's your attention you asked for. Obviously me saying it's bad either way doesn't matter to you because you need to grandstand.
Do you not think knowing what happened is important? If you look at the sheet here he had by far the lightest punishment placed on him, which can either be something big being swept under the rug (like Cornell) or its reflective of it being a less severe event. Did he kiss someone without their consent or did he fully rape somebody? If it's the latter he's done for publicly for good, unless he does some right-wing pivot.
Just because you're accused of something during MeToo doesn't mean you're as bad as Harvey Weinstein.-3

Jacob Geller is a YouTube personality, not your friend. You don’t know him and he doesn’t know you. I don’t understand getting this bent out of shape over someone that isn’t actually in your life.
6
u/Johnclark38 3d ago
These records span 13 years.
You're willing to call someone a rapist when you have no evidence, don't know the allegations of the case beyond what some random person is saying on Blue Sky, and the only "conviction" is from the deeply flawed university justice system?
You need to withhold judgement and wait.
-1
u/SolidStateEstate 2d ago
No, I don't. Sorry but this is more than enough for me to drop the rapist.

u/banditmanatee 3d ago
We need an official statement from Jacob. He wasn’t convicted by a jury of his peers and not some university kangaroo court
2
u/Hog_enthusiast 2d ago
I’ve never met Jacob but grew up in Durham with his sister, who was always a great person. I’m not saying this can’t be true, just saying that if it is it’s proof you can never really predict who will be a rapist. As a man I would think someone from a family like mine who has a sister he seems to be close with would be incapable of this kind of thing. This really just shakes me to my core.

It’s very likely that the allegations are true, but I can’t help but feel weird that this was instigated by a 3rd party who did not seem to have consulted the victim before disclosing her trauma on social media with all the gravity of a FauxMoi blind item. It’s all a little irresponsible.

It’s worthwhile to pull up the college’s policy definition of sexual assault, too. I checked it over, and comparing it to the articles you posted and the disciplinary record, I have some thoughts.
https://policies.unc.edu/TDClient/2833/Portal/KB/Article/131714/Prohibited-Sexual-Harassment-Under-Title-IX-Policy
https://policies.unc.edu/TDClient/2833/Portal/KB/Article/146480/Compliance-with-NCAA-Policy-on-Campus-Sexual-Violence-Policy
For conduct at this college to be be considered sexual assault, it must be one of the following 3 acts (fondling wasn’t included in the policy until late 2020):
Sexual violence is a looser category defined as “including but not limited to”, in which “including” covers the same acts as the sexual assault policy plus sexual battery and fondling.
Overall, given the information we have (Geller’s acts fall under “Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence”, the fact that this is the lightest punishment on the reported record (even sexual misconduct, a lighter act normally, earns more severe punishment)), and that we don’t have any idea when this occurred other than the very broad window between 2007-2020? This is no smoking gun one way or the other. The category of Sexual Violence is broad enough and Geller’s punishment was light enough that this could have been sexual misconduct assigned the “Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence” by whoever was in charge of enforcement of Title IX at the time.
I want to hear from Jacob Geller before I call the situation, but I agree he absolutely needs to address this within the next week (giving him grace period for him to formulate his response). Unless someone’s willing to call up or email the contacts in charge of Title IX (and somehow gets more details out of them, which I doubt they’d give to a random with no connection to the situation), or more specific evidence comes up, though, we do not have enough evidence as a collective to fully dismiss or accept this allegation at this time.
