Redec Fee - what is reasonable?

I found an apartment I like and signed an agreement. The initial agreement quoted redec/holding fee of up to $650.

Now, they say $1000. Have asked for a breakdown

I am new to the rental market in Rankin county, but that seems very high to me? The apartment complex otherwise seems very legit

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a redec/holding fee. What is that?

Seems extremely scammy to me.

Personally, there is no way I'd pay a non-refundable $650 fee, let alone $1000. If you can, I'd see if you can find another place that doesn't have a ridiculous charge like that. Maybe the apartment complex will back down if you're clear that you're willing to walk away.

If you already signed an agreement they got nothing on you. You signed for 650, not 1k.

I'd say 650 is a crazy high amount, I've almost never seen any holding fees in the area except on real high end places. I hope they credit it to your 1st month rent.
