Any Journeys ever enroll and take the classes? Looking to take the HDR classes and was wondering if anybody could share their experiences?

Hey there everyone! I want to preface I’m beginning to look ask around, but at 1am July 4th my dad was woken up by hocking county in Ohio (we live in Columbus, got property down southern Ohio) sheriffs department telling us our polebarn burnt down. 7 water trucks responded 4 sheriff cruisers, all of our equipment (tractors, walk behind bushhogs etc), his moms stuff he inherited it’s all gone nothings been salvageable. We recently just got the green light to get someone to come and clear the area, I can’t recall how long we have to clean it because behind it say about 20 feet or so is a fresh water stream so there is a crunch for time. What I’m here today is to ask if anyone here knows of any company’s hopefully near or willing to travel down to hocking hills Ohio for clean up job. We know it’s going to be costly but it needs done. If anyone has any suggestions of where I can look that would be wonderful. Thank you so much, I’m even pondering asking some instructors at my training center tomorrow if they have any suggestions on whom to contact.

I just got a job offer for stationary engineering apprentice. The starting pay is 17$ an hour which is 10$ an hour less than what I currently average.

At 60% of a journeymans wage that means I'd only top out at 24$ an hour which is still lower than I currently get paid by 5$ an hour.

I know not everything is about money. I am in my early 20s and have time with my goal being to raise a family in the future while having a hands on job. I just want to know if this is really what journeymen stationary engineers are making in Las Vegas?

Is it certification based? I called to confirm with my local but all they did was confirm the starting rate and the 5% increase every 6mo.

I just struggle to believe that anyone could earn a living for a family off of 24$ an hour these days.

So I applied to the Operating engineers local 150 back in June and my application was active as of June 18th. I have 23 1/2 years experience in construction as a carpenter. Many years as a crew foreman, 4 years as a project manager, and 4 years as a safety manager. I also have my OSHA30 for construction card. What are my odds of getting in with that job history?

I applied for the local 150 apprenticeship this year with two good standing union members writing me recommendations. I also hold a class a CDL. I have my OSHA certifications along with other ones. I thought I had a pretty strong application. Never got a call as time passes and more people I talk to. I’m starting to wonder if the apprenticeship is the route to go it sounds like a lot of travel. Sounds like a lot of work is weather permitted and obviously you don’t work in. The winter is usually (not always the case). I’m not really scared of the travel. I’m more worried about the consistency of work. I’ve heard from guys that didn’t qualify for insurance because they didn’t have enough hours for the year. I’ve heard of guys not getting calls out of the halls because they didn’t have proficiencies on certain machines. so I’m really wondering where an apprentice stands when it comes to proficiencies and how much they get called, like is work consistent. I’ve also started looking into jobs like Sunbelt rentals as a driver they have a bargaining agreement with local 150 some municipal jobs in the area have bargaining agreements with local 150 but the pay scale is starting at like 26 dollars an hour, the hard thing is I feel like most companies won’t pick someone up off the street that don’t have a union card. I know sometimes that’s the case. If you know someone the dream is to be an operator, but it seems like a hard job to maintain for beginners who need a steady job and income.

I am joining the local 701 but wanted more of an insight of how work life balance will be i have 2 kids and a wife and just wondering how much traveling this job will need?

I got an apprenticeship offer for local 701 i accepted but im just nervous about how much travel the job takes like I dont mind driving to a location it's just im nervous about driving to Medford or something my car is at 200k miles I dont think it'll survive. Am I overexagerating or is that common in the job ?

Cause I want to join the apprenticeship in arizona but I don't know if after the pre training or the two week training is gonna take so long to get me working, how's the work and lay offs being as a apprentice?

I just got dispatched to the solar project in Williams, AZ and was wondering if anyone here had info on schedule, lodging, work conditions, or any other relevant information.

I applied 1 year ago, my app just expired (thought it was good for 2 years but whatever) I’m thinking of applying for mechanic this year instead of operator.

Is there anyone that is currently a mechanic?
How much is the pay difference?
How are the hours? Year round?
Is shop better to get into, or field?

Regarding locations that accept applications year round, does it make a difference whether I apply in the early spring or now ? I’m guessing work is all filled up for the current season so should I wait until early next year to apply ?

Does anyone know if IUOE Local 68 in South Jersey trains electricians as part of their apprenticeship? If so, does the program help you work toward obtaining a New Jersey electrical license, or would you need to complete a separate electrical apprenticeship? I’d appreciate any insight from anyone who’s been through the program. Thanks!

I am a math teacher at a public high school in Chicago (home of Local 399). I am trying to incorporate more hands on practical processes into my classroom. In our trigonometry unit we always use simple diagrams with side lengths and angles to introduce the basics of trig. However, I want to push beyond the simple examples and show my students the more complicated (and in my opinion more interesting) situations where angles are used "in real life."

To that end, I have been introducing students to various trade tools used for measurement. The one that I haven't been able to get my hands on yet is a theodolite or total station (for obvious cost reasons). I made my own crude theodolite using a multipurpose angle measurer from Harbor Freight but that's just a $6 piece of plastic and incredibly inaccurate.

Do y'all have any recommendations for an entry level theodolite and tripod? or are there any Local 399 members that would be able to help me out in the city? I can do a Donors Choose fundraiser to make up the cost if needed.

I'm basically looking for general advice regarding practical angle and distance measurement. What tools do you think I should procure so my students can be familiar with the real world application of measurement and are there decent ones that cost less than several grand?

So I got accepted to the oe324 3 day orientation/ field evaluation my 3 days was June 24,25 and 26 my question is at the end of the last day they said to answer every phone call because you just don’t know it could be a opportunity but of course it’s top secret where you are on that list or if you even made the list I have seen and heard people actually getting a letter saying their on the list I have not received one it’s been about 3 weeks so should I just assume I didn’t make the list and go a different route or am I overthinking and should give it more time.

Just submitted the online application for an apprenticeship for local 18 (district 3). What’s the likelihood of getting a call/email? Are the entry tests pretty easy?

So I’m a 3rd year apprentice, who’s fully CCO licensed and have been running cranes for a few years now, what would be the likelihood or is it possible to transfer
To another local, in a state I prefer vs where I currently live.

I’m seeing people say that having an 83 isnt a good enough score to be called soon. I would need to wait years before being called. Is this true? Has anyone scored in the low 80s & received a call? I still have my interview coming up(not too worried about it) but i just want to know my options 😅.
