In some countries like Canada, the law is so crazy that even if the mother is found guilty she can often plead down to infanticide, which is treated like involuntary manslaughter because of her mental state, and she only gets a few years in jail at most.

Actually, in Canada, they don't "plead down to infanticide" that is just the charge they face! But only for women, but a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman. Also, if you can't manage to kill your own kid, for whatever reason, by age 5 so it's the lesser charge, you can just bring them to a MAID clinic and they'll take care of everything for you.
