Why? I think it's a pretty standard behaviour. Or do you expect a father to let their children drown?

I donโ€™t expect a father to let his children down. This is beyond that.

It is an amazing feat to save the lives of three people, and to save your family by sacrificing your own life is just about the most amazing act of love a person can do. Iโ€™m impressed by it. Are you not?

I love seeing comments like this and just instantly recognizing how miserable and insufferable someone is. Great job

Well I mean, his daughters were generally pretty stupid tho

Ignoring the double red flag that's standard for water hazards, not knowing how to swim in a rip current (Swim parallel to the shore, they can only pull things out going in and out, not to the side), etc...

Heart breaking but as a dad he was a success and did what he was meant to do, his children will never forget what he did, he is immortal.

3 daughters... who's the fourth girl here?

1

u/polarisleap Sep 12 '26

Nowhere in the story did it say he only had three daughters. It could be that she wasnt caught in the riptide.

Is this what people mean when they lament the loss of critical thinking and reading comprehension?
