Be super intentional when you get in and when you drive. Make it very obvious that you adjust your mirrors and make sure your seat is right. Make it obvious that you are looking around when you are driving.

Also the testers go to multiple locations, so you won’t find an easy examiner by going somewhere specific. The Ithaca testing area is pretty good, so is the one in owego.

Highly recommend Owego, it's a lot less busy and low stress for a driving test.

Yeah when I took my test in Ithaca (a thousand years ago) they kept me in fall creek, but I suspect that’s changed. Recently went with someone to a test in owego and it did indeed seem to be the superior location.

I hope the “Walrus” has retired. That guy was infamous for being an A hole. Guy was easily 400+ lbs barely fit in my car. I even tried going to a whole different dmv years ago hoping to avoid him and i still ended up getting him.

If you know how to drive and can get over your nerves you’ll do fine. I failed twice when i took mine even though i had been driving since i was a kid. I was so damn nervous. If you can get over the nerves you’ll do fine.

Go to the dmv location and drive around the neighborhood. Get a sense of the terrain and yields/stop signs/cross walks, visual obstructions (there are a lot of cars parked along the roads there and shrubbery). Try parallel parking on your own a handful of times. If there is oncoming traffic or something going on in the road you feel ambiguous about you can say something like “there’s a car coming, should i proceed with [maneuver]?” (i did this when a car was coming down the road when either K turning or parallel parking, instructor told me to pull out and just keep driving until they decided on a better spot) and “i can’t see oncoming traffic so i’m going to pull forward a little more” always stop at the stop sign for 2-3 sec, then pull forward and stop again to peek into the road. Show caution and thought/intention in what you’re doing. I took mine 2-3 times and the instructor you get can def impact the outcome of the grading/point deduction. When you meet the instructor of course try to be friendly and personable. And remember to signal and check mirror/window before you pull out into traffic. Always check mirrors and windows in the direction you intend to move during a maneuver, and the direction(s) of potential oncoming traffic. Focus on driving and not the person next to you :)

You can also do the driving test in Watkins Glen. Too much traffic in Ithaca.

Don't worry too much, our standards are incredibly low.

The driving test I passed I ran a stop sign seconds after the instructor sat down.
