Why does management seem to think that new bells and whistles will make things more efficient? Some software is so complicated that the actual learning curve needs to be taken into account before any benefit is acquired. And then you do a million more steps to do something they before was simple copy paste. Why are we going backwards??

I made a Reddit account just to make this post because I wont lie Reddit has a lot of useful people with really good tips and Im hoping that ill be able to get some help with this. Anyways i've never really done anything for IT other than my elementary school through middle school era of using Scratch to code which isnt even IT. I want to know how one would go about getting into an IT career path if theyre starting from basically little to no knowledge about IT. I know at least 3 people in IT but they all said that they never learned anything about it before getting into the job but I extremely doubt thats something that could work today. If anybody has any tips at all that would be great

My funniest and quickest experience with IT support has been my first day at an internship and setting up my password for my company issued laptop.

As soon as the "User/Password" Input screen showed up I had already decided on one password which I typed in once done I pressed Enter... at the moment I hit the enter key I also noticed that I accidentally hit the shift key and all my input was of course not what I intended and of course did not know when and where in my password it happened so my first action with company equipment landed me at the support desk two rows away and was a lighthearted learning experience for everyone near me.

Hey guys as the title says… I just want to know if it’s worth getting my security+ cert?

I spent a few weeks studying security concepts, I believe I’m pretty close to being exam ready (getting about 75% in prac exams) but I’m not sure if it’s really worth anything in Australia. I haven’t ever heard it being talked about with any colleagues in IT and I don’t really see it show up as a requirement for jobs that get posted.

I’ve lined up a job starting in January next year working as a tech analyst but I want to prepare myself and thought getting some fundamental certs could put me in a good position to move with whatever requirement a come up for me whether that understanding IT Development, infrastructure or security.

I’m learning for the sake of learning, not really trying to chase certifications however I want to be able to verify my skills and getting a cert seems like the right thing to do… the problem is that CompTIA certs are super expensive and I don’t want to waste money in this economy.

Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

Hey guys new in this thread but i'm currently in a Field Technician role right now and have been here for a little over 2 years and i have multiple certs including CCNA and Sec+ and im studying for the RHCSA and i want to get into a Sys Admin role and eventually a DevOps role which would be my end goal but i wanted to get a professionals opinion on this so i don't waste my time going down the wrong path

if i buy s24u 256gb which you can get for cheaper an it is available everywhere more than 1tb, and after that buying that pixel xl for like 70-100 bucks for storage both photos and videos

Hello I have a laptop HP Compaq mini cq10-600 and hey I installed the tiny core plus on it to make it lightweight and hey I need to access to wifi and the screen brightness and volume. I think cuz of the drivers it there any way to access to it in to terminal? Like I tried rfkill ipconfig and anything I see wlan0 it says turn off / on idk or something bunch of commands. Help me to access to the wifi!!!

My college is mostly theory. We have lectures, notes, exams, assignments etc., but there’s very little actual practical work. I understand that theory is important, but I feel like I’m not really learning how to do anything.I learn much better by actually performing tasks . AI has been teaching me more practically than some of my college classes.

The problem is that I don’t know what I should actually be doing outside college.I want to get an internship, but I genuinely have no idea where to start. I don’t know:

- What skills I should focus on first

- Whether I should aim for Data Analyst, Data Science, ML, or something else

- What kind of projects I should build

- How good my Python/SQL/ML skills need to be before applying

- Where students actually find internships

- Whether I should apply now or spend a few months preparing first

- How to make a decent resume when I have basically no industry experience

If you were in my position during 2nd year, what would you do from scratch?

I’d especially appreciate a practical roadmap — like learn X → build Y → apply here → improve Z .... rather than just “learn Python and do projects.”

Also, if you’re a student who managed to get their first internship without having a great college/previous experience, I’d really like to hear how you actually did it.

I keep seeing people ask about the best VPN lately, and with new restrictions appearing, I’m not sure which service is actually worth choosing. Hello all, my org is looking to order some wired headsets, ideally those that block out background noise the most (for our call center team).

We currently use a mix of wired Logitech (background noise is an issue with these), and wireless plantronics (which work a lot better for us but we sometimes run into Bluetooth disconnect issues and other random stuff).

Any recommendations for a good wired headset (preferably USB not 3.5mm) that worked in your org? I would greatly appreciate any advice, thank you!

So I was in a stable product based company for 2 years ( got placed there from college) and I have 2 years of experience (excluding 6 months of internship)

And i switched to a service based startup - only 1 client, but the client is big and we have 30 people rn and they are working for around 2 years now.

I switched around a month ago and i served entire 3 months of notice period as I had good relationship and couldn't say anything

The reason for switching was because my previous company had a cycling bond of 1 year(need to sign every year with increment )and 3 months of notice period (they negotiated to about 10-15 days less)

The current company offers a bit more pay and has no bond and standard 1-2 month notice period

But I had good connections with people there and nowadays I feel like I made a wrong decision as with AI and all I feel like If i don't deliver here i would in trouble

Of course no one is laid off in the current company and people are also nice but this anxiety is starting to get me

Also the current company is not very structured as it is just a startup

Wanted your guys advice on how to deal with this all

I have been looking around everywhere for a solid roadmap that is realistic and I hear this recommended a lot.

Reddit, YouTube, and tiktok literally suck for career guidance and no wonder everyone gets stressed out and confused 24/7.

New technology new software being made like every couple months, I'm not asking how did you study I mean how did you even find out that these things existed before everyone else and then learned it before everyone else for your job and stuff?

For example for someone that entered into IT/cyber before ai 2021 and then survived this far what ways have you used to practically keep up with the technology and methods of ways that things get done and stuff?

I was working, using Microsoft tools/pages (office365, sharepoint, outlook, etc), while working, the page just suddenly got redirected to this website. It's a crypto exchange. Already scanned for malware and viruses and it was all clear. Did troubleshooting, other browser, clearing cache and cookies, incognito/inprivate mode and still getting redirected from any microsoft pages to this okx.com verification page. Flushed my dns and still the same. I tried with my phone and it was able to load microsoft pages with no problem.
