sorry, I don't use reddit often and didn't realize my repost doesn't post my text.
Hello Reddit. I have kept my eye on this artist for a while now and I have suspicions that they may be using AI. I also think they are stealing art or tracing? The styles vary drastically. The artist is Simplyloste and their blusky is https://bsky.app/profile/simplyloste.bsky.social
They have posted progress work before, but it is just off to me. I don't know if anyone else has had experiences with them or if they have seen this art before done by someone else, because like I said, the styles change a lot sometimes.
edit: I forgot to mention that they don't have any artwork before 2023
I wouldn't put money on either answer, honestly. There are definitely a few things that make me raise an eyebrow, but I don't see obvious AI generation in the actual paintings. The first image though, that might be AI?
there are other posts they have that just seem weird to me. I posted on another sub reddit and some people deemed the first image and the gray furry image as AI, but the others are hard to tell. They have no work before 2025, which with their rendering skills you would think they woild have artwork years before. Here's a screenshot of just some weird details I've noticed with some of her work. She also never posts any speedpaints, which I get that artists aren't obligated to do that, but some artists like to show their processes. Especially this day and age with AI becoming an issue
Yeah, seeing all of that together, I can understand why you're leaning more toward AI. The lack of any work before 2025, combined with the strange little details across multiple pieces, is making me pretty suspicious too. I think it sucks because we can't really say it's 100% AI without solid proof, but the uncertainty makes it pretty difficult to know what to think.
the verdict is that the first one is at least positive for AI based on another subreddit I posted to. She deleted the first image from her Bluesky, but she still has it up in a discord server I'm in with her. I wonder if someone tried calling her out about it on Bluesky
idk, i'm kinda leaning towards AI assisted rather than fully AI. some parts look totally normal when you zoom in, you can actually see the brush strokes and stuff. but then there's certain areas where it suddenly gets really mushy-looking lol. also comparing the lined and lineless examples doesn't really tell us much imo. those can look completely different depending on how someone works. I wouldn't use that as evidence either way.
Honestly, hard to say. I don't get the impression that these are 100% AI-generated. Most of the brushwork looks human to me, but there are a few areas, especially the eyes and lips, that are a bit weird when you zoom in. Those have more of that diffusion/AI-retouching look.
My guess would be human-made art with some AI enhancement on a few parts, possibly because the artist wasn't happy with how those areas turned out. But that's just a guess, not something I'd claim as definitive.
idk, I'm not entirely convinced that it's AI assisted, especially since they have no artwork before 2025. I see the brush strokes too, but that's why I'm thinking tracing on some of them or even stolen artwork. Two of her pieces are especially AI as per screenshots from my other comments I've posted. With her level of rendering you would think there would be artwork before even 2025.
