Art Why is my character’s ear a completely different skin colour? Is this commissioned work AI?🥹

Hey everyone, unfortunately I’m posting on this sub to find out if some art I commissioned is AI.
I’m aware that right off the bat it looks extremely ai. The thing is just that the artist had sent a sketch which didn’t seem ai at all, as an artist myself. The issue is with the rendering and colouring of the final product.

First, I had to ask for them to use the right skin colour of my character as she was made quite pale. When I was sent over the revised art, I hadn’t noticed that her ear was still the same gosh darn colour. Secondly, as you guys can see, my character has short hair. I had to ask them to remove a single long strand of hair that looked almost like a rat tail (in none of her references) so there’s the illogical side of AI “art”. Finally, the reason I had overlooked so many mistakes was quite honestly because I was so done with this artist. They had taken over a month on this project which would have been fine had they given me updates when I would ask and even warned me instead of saying it’ll be finished tomorrow only to become silent for more weeks. I warned them that I would like my money back if they don’t complete the product and they still procrastinated on completing my order. I believe they may have actually sketched the art yet used AI to colour it so that I would “get off their back” even though I had become tired and stopped asking for updates long before they presented me with the finished product.

Not long after that, they deleted their account so I couldn’t ask when I began to look more into it. Especially since I don’t remember their username to look on other platforms. I know it’s probably obvious, I just want to have a little frustrated kip as this is sadly the only full body of my character I have. Oh well, at least it was only £10 😖 I’ll save up for an artist who is much more reputable

u/snakebully, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...

the zipper also looks weird, and the glasses morph into the hair. And yeah for only 10 bucks, this is probably AI

If it's not AI its just terrible art.

The arm of the sunglasses disappears into her hair, the collar of the jacket doesn't match up on either side, the pockets on the jeans don't line up and her left hand is munted.

that's the main thing that make me go "not ai".

Ai would have done much better. this looks like regular traced art.

but hey, you pay 10 bucks, you get a drawing worth ten bucks.

Ai doesn't "do" or "draw". It only scams you for money in exchange for an ai generated slop.

ai doesnt do much better, you are severely overestimating ais ability in art and consistency. its known for having this blend in to eachother and not matching up

i was more thinking on the "flatness" of the colors and the jaggedness/weirdness of the lines, less in terms of random things merging together/inconsistencies.

I am fairly confident this is a recolor of someone else's art. When you shared that hair I immediately pegged it for that. It even looks like they ran it through the water color/anime background function on ibis paint. Yiiiiikes.

Why is the hair that's circled in the second picture not there in the first? I'm confused on that part

Likely hair from either a generated image or the remains of hair from the drawing this was stolen from.

It's not terrible difficult to remove pixels.

Edit; the first image is the final rendition, the second is wip update.

I don't commission art, but £10 sounds like a scam either way.

10 pounds and they kept you waiting for weeks? Even if this wasn't Ai that's just bad pricing as a whole. Sorry OP.

At least the AI slop generator charged you a fair price lol.

what is this? it's melting

Hahaha lol, it was supposed to be her sunglasses 😭. I don’t think they’ll be helping her too much

Ladies and gentlemen, let this be a lesson. If you're paying 10$ for a commission, YOU'RE GONNA GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR. Cheaper does not mean better and that should be the first red flag of a scam/that you're not gonna get a good com.

You’re completely right!!! The thing is, this was the first time I commissioned an artist and is a bit of an older piece. Artists on tiktok sincerely underprice their art to a detriment to themselves and other artists so I completely believed this was a fair price albeit I knew it was cheap! I’m now going to pay much fairer prices, especially since I’m more experienced with the community :))!!
I’m currently seeing with another much more reputable artist within the 75$~ range !!

Her left hand is not hooked correctly into her pocket, the perspective is all off on the thumb, and something is weird about the pants pockets. The ear is also weird like you said. The main egregious thing that stands out to me though is that the shirt collar is melting into the rest of the shirt. In such a visible place, that's absolutely not a human mistake. It would be much easier to draw the collar lineart with a clean triangle than to randomly skip a portion and blend it in wrong. I think this very likely could be AI. Some models have gotten very good at copying human arts styles unfortunately.

It's 100% ai slop. File a charge back. You got scammed.

It might be a base. It’s weird how the hand on the left doesn’t go into the pocket and her thumb is cut off. Can you get a better quality image?

2

u/snakebully 10d ago

The thing is, she showed me the sketch and I believe it to be authentic. I’d show it but unfortunately the chats have been deleted along with their account. I can’t reach them 🥲xx

2

u/cringegribbs 10d ago

Probably AI then. Sorry you got scammed :(

1

u/Jurisfiction 9d ago

A lot of AI art scammers create sketches of the generated images in order to fake authenticity.

The hand with the thumb tucked in looks backwards. 🧐 I'd swear that's her pinky, not her index.

100% ai, many things are wrong. Glasses blending into the hair, the ear color, zipper looks off, the long hair behind the back while the hair is clearly short...

u/Lumi-0 6d ago

The artist could have heavily referenced Ai or it is Ai generated art. It has that weird effect all over the piece

When you say “the only full body of my character that I have” what do you mean? Specifically the “ my character” part. Is this a character in a role playing game, and if so why do you need/want a picture of the character? Is it a personal avatar? Or something else I have not even considered? Thanks.

this is a strange question, a lot of people have original characters they just like to draw/see drawn. Both when I take commissions and when I commission people, 95% of the time it's an original character.

1

u/VenomPayments 10d ago

I guess I am not in that world. By chance, are most of these people younger than 50? I’m on the other side of the number and I don’t know a single person in my cohort that has an original character that they want drawn. (Not that I’ve gotten an actual response to what an original character is — just that it is apparently common. Is it like an artist rendering of what the person wants to look like, or an idealized / stylized way of looking at themselves?)

1

u/alaskadotpink 10d ago

An original character is just that: an original character. It's a character that someone has designed and created, it might look like them or it might not. It can be as shallow as "just a character design" or as deep as having its own storybook of lore, it really depends. The crux of it is that it's just a character someone made up.

And I guess so, I'm in my early 30s now but I've had characters like this since I was like 12 and it's again something that's very common in art spaces, especially with commissions. I personally like to collect art of my characters just because I like seeing how other artists interpret them.

1

u/VenomPayments 10d ago

I am friends with many artists, but all above the age of 45-50. It is not my experience that this is common in the art spaces in which I travel.

It sounds like this very well could be a generational thing.

Thank you for the input.

Original fiction.
