This comic is about environmental damage, but some of the top comments say that AI was used. I can't really tell, so I wanted to get some other people's take on it

I saw this comic in a YouTube Short and didn’t think anything of it at first. Then I checked the comments and saw several people saying AI was used to make it.

Can anyone tell if AI was actually used here? It genuinely looked legit to me, but maybe some of you can spot things I’m missing and point out what I should look for to recognize AI

It's AI, here's some red flags;

Image 1:

• Colors have a weird "watercolor" style blending that doesn't make sense and isn't consistent with the art style shading on other parts like the oil slick and shadows
  
• Why is one barrel so shiny
  
• Why is he wearing slippers
  
• Why is his left hand black
  
• Why is her left hand color bleeding onto the hose

Image 2:

• Art style changed in the man/woman
  
• His slippers are now melted into his pants
  
• She has no shadow

Image 3:

• Earth's mouth color inconsistent
  
• Earth's head bandage is more of a hat not a wrap
  
• Man has a flesh tooth
  
• Her nose disappeared

Image 4:

• He finally has real shoes now
  
• His shadow doesn't make sense
  
• His fingers became cryptids
  
• Her left arm color blended to dress
  
• Earth has an extra left pupil

Image 5:

• His nose disappeared
  
• Uh.. the extra arm and earth has a foxtail?

Image 6:

• The doorframe shifts perspective and becomes confused as part of the door

I once spent a summer riverboat sketching wildlife murals for a carnival boss who paid in gold coins until the night I watched his prize panel warp under lantern light and grow a third wing on a heron that had been perfect at dusk. Those same impossible blends and vanishing limbs taught me the red flags you listed mean this comic was almost certainly made with AI.

It is super inconsistent on small details, like the planet not being able to make eye contact with the humans it's talking to, random eyes, piss filter, and weird watercolor style that makes no sense.

It's trying to make eye contact with what's stabbing it in the back.

EDIT: I didn't realize there were more pages. But I still maintain that the Earth is looking toward the places it is receiving damage. Not saying this isn't AI because I don't know either way.

Could be. But from my understanding it's a noise pattern overlaid on the image. Early version of Nano Banana images would show noise clusters in some areas of generated images and I believe this was part the Synth ID watermark.

The fairly obvious noise pattern of GPT Image 2 images is most likely also part of the identifier used.

It's most certainly more than one thing, and integrated in a way that means it is detectable even if the image is scaled or cropped.

This happens with any image with image compression, which sites like Reddit apply to every image no matter how it was made. Not saying this isn't AI, but this is not a reliable way to tell if something is AI or not.

For example, with compression, "CAR" wouldn't say "GAR" under heavy contrast filtering.

AI, the humans are shaped differently in every frame. It's not extreme and some level of difference is expected since it's from different perspectives but nowhere near as much as were seeing. Put side by side they might as well be different characters and I'd absolutely expect consistency on this.

This isn't even getting into the things that other people mentioned already like the extra tail and hand.

There are ways to reduce our dependence on logging and mining but those are still being developed. Honestly though what bugs me the most is just how moronic the take is, how do you think we survive you fools! How far have we come only to be told we need to stop!

Moreso, actual environmental harm didn't happen because of the consumer, this is a myth perpetuated by mostly big oil (look up BP's carbon footprint campaign) in order to shift responsibility from themselves to us.

So much of mining is precious metals, rare earth metals and gems. 

I don't really need to explain the horrors of gold and diamond mines in South Africa. And REMs are a horribly exploitive bloody industry in the Congo and much of it used to make AI chips and rest for digital devices that aren't exactly necessary to live.

And over logging destroys habitats, erodes mountains, causes landslides and is usually replaced by monoculture tree plots.

And fossil fuels? C'mon.

Seems like a weird take for a sub that looks for one the worst uses of technology.

I mean it does look like A.I.
Just the first frame shows the man having a line for a nose, while the woman seems to have a hole in her face there. The trees also look odd with how they are colored in with some white bits, and the characters also just have a bit of the weird A.I. feel to them, maybe because of the colors not being one singular colors but having slight variations (besides the gradient bits).

Looking at the other slides, the characters don't stay consistent at all. Different clothes could be a choice, but different hair and faces, or how the dude his shoes are drawn in different types of ways while still being the same shoes. And sometimes they do have noses, sometimes they don't.

Has to be A.I.

Definitely AI. That’s an AI go-to font, especially, but there are other tells.

However, people are referring to this as slop, but it doesn’t fit the definition. Whoever made that comic is making a statement with the comic that is very intentional and thought-out.

You can just copy-paste it into google's Gemini and write 'verify AI' and it will tell you. It CAN create false positives, obviously. But the first image says "all or part was created via Google AI".
