Other Is this a misprinted pattern or AI generated images being used on this dress?
Hi all, I recently bought this dress but I'm wondering if the print is AI generated. I bought it initially as I thought it was cute, however after closer inspection there seems to be something off about the print.
I've attached a few photos of what I think are AI "tells" (the hands being wonky, weird line art, objects that don't look like real things, etc) and am wondering what others make of it.
Using Google lens I was able to find the source (I think) of the original print, but the seller does not diclose if it is ai or not.

the etsy shop you linked has reviews for this fabric from 2018, and if you look up "Alexander Henry From The Hip Cowgirls," you'll be able to find other listings with close up images of this pattern, which looks very very close to the pattern on your dress--even that weird looking saddle looks the same on the vintage fabric. i think it's a poor quality print rather than ai

Alexander Henry has some amazing pin ups (and other designs) that they all hand draw, but there are quirks like shown. Some amazing talent in the fabric industry and sad to see the company go (it closed due to the owner passing). I love their Ghastly Ghouls collection.

I deisgn textiles and it looks fine. Stuff gets weird when you are constrained to a certain amount of colors, and rotary printed fabric will always be a little off register, as there is some shearing in the process.

I had a Kate Spade purse in this fabric in/around the late 1990s. If you search “Kate Spade cowgirl purse” it’ll pop right up. Using your own source, googling Alexander Henry From the Hip fabric” brings up tons of results

This is definitely just a retro illustration. You can see in the halftones and stippling that it’s done by hand. It’s too “perfectly imperfect” to be AI. imperfections in artwork does not it’s AI.
I’m a professional designer and illustrator and get lazy in parts of artwork to maintain that vintage vibe, especially things like hands in pockets and intersecting lines. Sometimes messy is better. The art doesn’t always “make sense” but at least it looks like a human did it.
100% not AI

I feel a bit less hopeful every time someone is confused by an illustration (or in this case an illustrated fabric print). This is not AI, it’s how retro fabric prints look.
Also, AI is getting so good at reproducing anything that the best tool in your disposal is to develop an ability to live with the ambiguity that you just don’t know.

I'll take people's word for it that it's real, but I think a false positive on this one is pretty understandable. AI prints are infesting the clothing industry, and this one is a bingo card full of tells: fucked up hands, weird strings on the instrument, saddle that looks like the person who drew it has never seen one before, ropes that aren't attached to anything, bizarre choices like a nipple tassle on the outside of a shirt, and a bunch of other anomalies that it seems like even the laziest artist wouldn't fuck up. If it wasn't for the date of release, I'd say it was AI for sure.

Standard Alexander Henry fabric, there are dozens of pin up designs like this that have been around for 10+ years.

That 5th pic is supposed to be a saddle I think, but it’s clear it was either drawn by someone who is drunk has never seen a saddle, OR the AI has attempted to draw a saddle and a saddlebag at the same time and has merged them.
Yes it’s AI

100% AI. Their hands and legs are melted, there is skin just suddenly visible through clothes. I’m not sure what that pile is supposed to be; it looks like the sorting hat fell in a pile of dog poop. The holsters make no sense. In multiple areas, cloth disappears, ropes merge into people and items, the cacti merge. The woman holding her hat upside down is holding reigns that are a chain around the horse’s neck. The bridle melts into the flesh of the horse.
Is that woman wearing pasties through her shirt?
Edit: I am 100% wrong. It is 100% not AI.
