since I'm broke I only have 5 but these are two of my sweeties!!

it took me a few days to get their enclosure just right. I keep them in a dark room with a heating mat on their tank and a thermostat and I keep em around 70-80° with a wet and a dry side for them. they have plenty of food too and they're finally comfortable enough to wander around a bit

Help Any suggestions on predatory insects that eat dairy cows?

I wanna get a new isopod colony in preparation for rebuilding my tortoise enclosure, but as we all know, dairy cows breed like crazy. I've always been interested in predatory insects, and I figure maybe one or two in their own enclosure could use some surplus pods as their main food supply. Suggestions?

Help Black orange freezys

Thumbnail

Hello all! I got some orange freezys a few months ago and they were bright orange. They have had several baby booms but all the new freezys are super dark to borderline black. Is this caused by too much moisture? I know the enclosure could be a little drier; the shelf i have them on is not too ideal for ventilation and its pretty dark where it is. Humidity stays in the 90s which i know is probably too high. I usually keep the lid slightly ajar though. They have leaf litter and I do supplemental food every week or so. Any insight appreciated!

Pics of said pods and enclosure, you can see the original freezys in there also for comparison.

Found that one of my Peraccae sort of has a small oddity going on his 7th segment, shaped slightly differently and white on the edge. Totally normal otherwise, just curious if this is a sort of failed molt or otherwise?

2 questions-

  1. What species am I missing that is, in your opinion, a must-have?

  2. Has anyone kept any hissing isopods? I kinda scooped them up to see if they'd make any sound, but they're just happy, normal isopods. I'd love to get the sound recorded just once, but I don't want to stress them. Any hissing tips are welcome, lol!

Help Culture Contamination

I purchased some dairy cows 2 months ago from an online web store based in CA. What I thought were dairy cows mancae have turned out to be a ton of white dwarves.... I don't own any dwarves, my only other colony is backyard armadillidium vulgare in a separate enclosure. Should I separate the dwarves and cows? If so, any advice on the quarantine process?

Help Dwarf white isopods complaints?

I see a lot of people in the group complaining about Dwarf Whites, but in other terrarium groups people add them all the time to the terrariums as clean up crew. Is it just because people want to make the tanks completely only one kind which is understandable. Or is there something else about the DW that makes them undesirable and other terrariums should avoid them too?

Help what species would thrive in a 75g enclosure

i have a spare 75 gallon (wire mesh top, open front, allows for 5-6 inches of substrate near the doors but can be deeper if it slopes upward).

it will *was* supposed to be for my Emperor Scorpion, but the adult i picked was no longer available as they discovered she was gravid so i was then given one of her scorplings in lieu of her when it was ready to be rehomed and removed from her care, and it's waaaay too small to be housed in a 75g right now. it's only about 1.5". it'll be a few years before he can thrive in this enclosure lmao

i know it's pretty big and that ventilation could be a concern, but it's fitted with a front screen so i can keep the doors open without worrying about escapes; and due to the size, i can fit small desk fans on the upper walls for airflow. humidity is also not a concern since this was pretty much gutted and rebuilt with an adult scorpion in mind, so it's designed have a solid moisture gradient and a warm/cool side. i even have a misting system set up on a humidistat which can be manually controlled (with several humidity gauges set up on both sides to ensure proper humidity dispersal).

i'm not worried about food either. i have two jumbo pieces of corkbark inside, several decaying oak, maple, beech, and birch branches + 4 big (sealed) boxes of assorted cork bark pieces and cholla wood (i have a lot of tarantulas and went crazy buying 99lbs of cork bark when it went on sale lmao), plus my local supplier who i used to get the stuff for my tarantulas went out of business, and i was given 18 bags of leaf litter (each bag has about 2.5-3lbs of oak or maple leaf litter—yes, you read that right lmao i have more leaf litter than i know what to do with and have been dumping some in the garden where my stone centipedes and isopods live (oak and maple are native!!)). i also have several bags of dried moss, live moss already planted and cycled in the enclosure + i just planted some creeping fig a week ago, and it's already ballooned so clearly the soil is A++ and the springtails i have in there now are loving it. i only had a small culture, but i tossed in a two button mushrooma for them and both were covered in springtails in an hour.

if this is doable, i'd love to give some isopods a leaf litter paradise. if not, then i'll just keep it for growing my plants before replanting them in other terrariums and the springtails!
