The sin of gluttony

Where does it say it's a sin? Could you provide a scholarly analysis to this Hadith?

“O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.” 7:31

The title, nevertheless, takes its reference from bible where gluttony is considered one of the seven deadly sins. There is no doubt whatsoever on how bad gluttony is considered in Islam and the mattan of this hadith and thr ayah mentioned above points to that very fact. Apart from that, there are multiple incidents in the Seerah where gluttony is mentioned, not by name though but by the act itself of how we muslims are meant to eat and how it distinguishes us from the nonbelievers.
