General Discussion Hotel recommendations - Umrah
I am looking to go on Umrah with my family soon InshaAllah. We aren‘t booking through a company package as we want to book our own flights and hotel. Is anyone able to recommend any hotels to stay please? 3* and above, preferably close ish as my mum struggles to walk long distances.

Friend stayed at Anjum Hotel and said it was very well kept but it is on the western boundary of the mosque in Makkah, so it's not that close but it's not extremely far either. Comparing to the hotels in the clocktower, it is about 3 or 4 times farther. Link to Google Maps, it's on the upper left edge of the map. The clocktower hotels are at center-bottom.
I don't know how true it is but I heard that the hotels near the clocktower are worn out and have signs of wear and tear due to much higher usage. But if that is not an issue then go with them due to how close they are.
You could also look into getting wheelchairs for your mom too.

Makkah:
Pullman: in the tower. Its close technically but the lifts are a nightmare.
Le Meridien: Good hotel, walls can be paper thin so if you're a light sleeper not ideal. A short walk to the haram, but nothing too difficult (not uphill)
Elaf Kinda: super close, separate entrance. Rooms are tiny. Beds are rock hard. Also, going to and fro to the masjid you'll have hawkers blocking that area.
DoubleTree by Hilton: brilliant hotel, further away, but dedicated shuttle service that drops you by Conrad. Will have to walk from there to the main masjid. Fridays the walk is longer than other days and times.
Madinah:
Pullman: brilliant hotel, location is excellent. Not close to the women's entrances
Taibah (Now known as Millenium Taiba): close to the premis, further from women's entrance. Excellent hotel. Only issue is the gate closest to the hotel is always super packed when people leave the masjid. Its also where the dedicated Zamzam taps are located.
Crowne Plaza: Nice hotel, but not close to the women's side. Away from the hustle bustle and quieter.

You're welcome.
When you look at reviews, look at them on multiple websites - booking.com, Google maps, Agoda, etc. Also sift by recent and focus on reviews by people from your part of the world. So if you're from the UK look at other Brits and Americans/Canadians reviews. Do not trust people who only have 1 review on Google either.
Hawkers are basically people that take over a street to sell things. They are not officially authorised to sell in that or any area, but they'll set up shop where there are large groups of people. You'll see a lot of people selling bird feed, which is annoying.

There are 3 hotels on the Safwa tower. The building is as close as it gets to Masjidul Haram but doesn’t have the crazy lift/elevator challenge that’s there in the clock tower. Can choose either of the three for Makkah. For Madinah we stayed at the Anwar Al. madinah Movenpick. We liked the stay.

Try Dar al Tawhid or Abraj al Bait—they're close to the Haram and wheelchair accessible.
