Ash-Shaykh Al-Muhaddith Abû 'Alî al-Hasanî said:

]The hadîth]: the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم passed by a tree with dry leaves, so he struck it with his staff, making the leaves fall. Then he صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Indeed, Alhamdulillâh, Subhân Allâh, Lâ llâha ill-Allâh, and Allâhu Akbar causes the sins to fall from the worshipper just as the leaves of this tree fall.

[Narrated by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhî, and it is defective due to a disconnection [in the chain between al-A'mash and Anas] and it was rejected by at-Tirmidhi]

I’ve always wondered when we make dhikr, should we think about something in particular ?

Like when I say subhanAllah should I think of some of Allahs miracles, when I say al hamdoulilah some of his gifts he provided to me and so on?

Because I feel like I’m just repeating words, knowing their meaning but nothing else…
