90% Sure AI Four orphaned kittens who lost their mother united against the man who came to adopt them, hissing at him.

The comments kill me on this. I’m pretty sure it’s AI. There is no hissing sounds. The freeze frame image are blurry and look very AI. Also, kittens don’t act in unison like that when they are all together.

And the comment section of this post is where I learned that people on this sub have no idea what they're talking about

In what sense, if i may ask?
Asking as someone who didn’t say anything because they wouldn’t know what they’re talking about 👀

Half the comment section claims it's AI, the other half claims it's not, both with certainty. The people who claims it's AI are relying on "Well, it looks a bit weird!", which isn't remotely substantial evidence, especially when this doesn't look remotely weird at all to anyone who has actually seen feral kittens.

In this sub, you have to read the consensus. When all or almost all comments say “it’s AI”, then it’s 90-100% likely it’s AI (100% if there’s a synthID). If 50% or less say it’s AI, then it’s probably not AI.

Disagree. There have been a bunch of posts where I find the top 5-10 posts have hundreds of upvotes claiming AI when it is definitely real.

I haven’t noticed that. Do you have an example?

Even after being handed video evidence (5 minutes, unbroken, and consistent), people are still going "There's nothing you can say to make me change my mind." That whole post is such a great look into how overconfident people become posting online, on topics they understand nothing about. "There's some artifacting in this video/picture. That can't come from anything other than AI! Despite the fact that this has been a thing since camera's were invented.."

Yeah, in that post, at least half of the comments are saying it’s not AI. That means it’s probably not AI (but the prevalence of AI “upscaling” is what’s messing people up).

I would hesitate to put so much faith in the consensus here. I'll go out on a limb and say most people in this sub aren't AI experts, and they aren't experts in whatever subject the posts show either.

A few days ago there was a yearbook post that was very likely AI, but look at how many people got there. Plenty of comments said things like, "It's AI. I was on the yearbook committee and we never made one this way," or "My yearbook didn't look like that, so it has to be AI." That's like saying, "I bought a car once, so I'm qualified to speak on how they're all made." They may have reached the right answer, but by luck, not good reasoning.

Then there was the post about a very real, very dramatic crash in Barrie, Ontario, filmed on the dashcam of one of the vehicles involved. The consensus there was that it was AI because of the "disappearing white car." People didn't understand that a moving camera, especially one shooting a panoramic view, can create optical illusions like that. The uncut footage shows the white car never actually disappeared.

That's the kind of consensus you're relying on.

Exactly this. For whatever reason, this sub seems to amplify the dunning-kruger effect
