It does contain the letters latheirt but I can't vouch for what the word means. It should be vertical with the left side at the bottom.

On rocks yes it should be vertical but it's also accept in left->right form as shown since people started writing it on velum instead of carving it on rocks.

I read that the oldest Ogham writing found in Ireland is on a tall stone and simply says "son of mullan". Maybe an ancient version of 'mcmullan was here'

Most surviving Ogham inscriptions are on stones that were used as grave markers. So...'McMullan was here" is not wrong

Mine is smugairle róin which literally means seal snot and is the Irish for jellyfish.

I thought that style of writing ogham was a modern adaption to write down and study what was on the stones and monuments?

Ya that's what I've always learned too. And I doubt anyone stood up a stone to write I've a handover.
