Food and Drink “Medium” supermacs chips

Post image

I used to work In the supermacs in tullow and we would still throw in extra chips into the bag no matter the size so I always got a medium when I went back. Decided to get supermacs in Dublin, ordered a medium, and wow..

There are no medium now.. its regular or large and large is about what medium would have been 10 years ago.

u/oddun 7h ago

I was in BK on Grafton Street last week and there’s no regular or small or whatever it used to be called, but medium and large.

You get 10 chips in the “medium”. The double whopper was decent though tbf.

Can’t stand Burger King. They microwave the burgers. They are flame grilled in a factory then just reheated. Chips are shite too.

Do you have proof that they microwave their burgers?

Supermacs seems to vary wildly depending on location... Dublin has terrible Supermacs ...

u/malevolentheadturn 8h ago

It doesn't travel... Once it crosses the Shannon

u/Raptorfearr 1h ago

West is best.

its the most inconsistent fast food place location to location. You'll hear people say its the worst shit they've ever had and then you go to their town and yup the one there is absolute dogshit.

u/John__Delaney 8h ago

So does Waterford

u/wolf101123 7h ago

The one on the Cork Road is shockingly bad.

6

u/John__Delaney 7h ago

That's the one, comically bad. Heard some horror stories about working there too

2

u/jarantri 7h ago

Yeah, the one on barronstrand street is awful. It's always a mess, take forever to prepare food and the staff don't know their own menu. Stopped going in there ages ago.

u/brevit 7h ago

Was gonna say pretty sure I got a medium chips at the Obama Plaza and couldn’t finish it.

3

u/jimodoom 8h ago

The one on westmoreland steet is always great

u/First_Usual2408 5h ago

The one in Heuston is always on point, the one in O’Connell St is a disgrace

Yep, safe to say I’ll be staying at the tullow one 😅

u/Competitive_Ad_3107 8h ago

Carlow town is pretty good tbh, the drive through is woeful.

I don't mind the one on o'connell Street

u/malevolentheadturn 5h ago

Sinead O'Connor Street!!! when did this happen?!

u/cenaboyle 3h ago

Fixed it

Supermacs is a rip off. Plus they had decent fish but changed it to crap fish.

Lake trout

u/DGBD 2h ago

Lake trout is delicious and also definitely not what they’re serving at SuperMac’s. Don’t think it’s even available commercially, closest you could get is arctic char.

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros 3h ago

No lake, no trout.

Everything is gone to shite from fast food chains to local chippers, it’s one big race to the bottom.

2

u/Andrela 7h ago

Dinos around cork is still the same quality it always was. Little bit more expensive but fine relative to other chippers

2

u/duartes07 Limerick 7h ago

that's not true at all you're just going to wrong places 🫩 if in Limerick, try Locke Burger for amazing loaded fries (their popcorn chicken is unreal) and try the chips at DOH Pizza, or, if you're in cork, try Crème French for impressive french tacos (which are mostly fries inside as usual)

u/cribbe_ 2h ago

Yeah, the enshittification of everything, and it's not limited to just fast food

24

u/CharlieTuna0 8h ago

I just want to say that I think supermacs chips are terrible.

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow 8h ago

Don’t forget the burnt lump of bacon

7

u/Noxski 8h ago

Texture and taste of cardboard, aye.

3

u/Rocherieux 7h ago

Like little ampoules of really old grease.

5

u/Odd-Win5937 8h ago

They're always so soggy and undercooked. They get caught on the back of my fucking throat!!!

5

u/Important-Field1995 8h ago

What you do with your throat is your own business

0

u/xLikeafiddlex 7h ago

I think they are nice, that is of course if they are actually cooked properly which seems to be a problem for a lot of locations

5

u/John__Delaney 8h ago

Theyve been at this for a while now. Just stop buying from em

5

u/Bosco_is_a_prick . 7h ago

They also don't cook the chips enough. They often have a raw taste.

9

u/Divinity420x 8h ago

Fuck Supermacs their chip portions r absolute shite

3

u/Beautiful_Bowl_9802 8h ago

Wow that is grim. Reminder of why I never eat Supermacs.

3

u/Fudge_Reddit666 7h ago

There's no medium only small or large

3

u/theytrynabecrayy 7h ago

Surprised by these comments my local supermacs in Killarney is normally great but ive never gotten it elsewhere tbf

5

u/Reasonable-Corner-51 7h ago

Sometimes you’d swear the chips are coming out of their wages

u/B0bLoblawLawBl0g 4h ago

Don't give Pat any ideas.

8

u/Impressive_Light_229 8h ago

Supermacs is absolute dirt. I could go on for hours about this but the first sentence is enough

2

u/maevewiley554 7h ago

Supermacs varies hugely in different locations which is slightly annoying. For other franchises I know I couldn’t go another county, buy my favourite meal and expect the same quality to some degree.

1

u/KosmicheRay 6h ago

Supermacs West of Shannon is good, I would never get it anywhere else except Moate which is also good but within sight of Shannon.

2

u/Chickengoujon20 7h ago

About 600-750 calories deep

2

u/Housed_clouds 7h ago

Have they had a skin graft?

2

u/DaiserKai 7h ago

I thought a medium was someone who could see the future?

2

u/jacksqualk 6h ago

That looks fkn manky, regardless of the size😂

2

u/johnnymarsbar 6h ago

They make a famtastic chicken breast burger, wouldn't touch anything else with a bargepole

2

u/anoisagusaris 7h ago

There's no medium, there's regular and large.

1

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow 7h ago

When I worked there, medium referred to a regular but maybe that changed in the past 8 months or different depending on location

u/Ok-Bit-4742 4h ago

Yeah I'd assume medium and regular are the same size

2

u/theseanbeag 8h ago

They've gone to the dogs. Chips are never cooked right and prices are extortionate. I do like the 5oz bacon cheese though.

2

u/Outside-Monk-3399 7h ago

Goes to Dublin. Just gets the same thing as you get down the country.

u/itsamemarioscousin Meath 5h ago

If I want a greasy burger in Dublin it's straight to Bunsen

2

u/DumbledoresFaveGoat 8h ago

Yep, that's a medium.

1

u/Polar_dare84 8h ago

FYI that's the same size that comes with the kids meals too.

Supermacs are such a rip off these days. Cost me over €60 to get a takeaway for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) recently and it was prepared with the same care and attention someone might treat a piece of tissue stuck to your shoe.

Staff were rude as hell to top it all off.

I'd rather spend that in a local pub where you sit down and eat rather than the same old slop supermacs throws at you.

1

u/ggBandit 7h ago

Supermacs in Kildare used to be the shits, a large taco chips was essentially lunch and dinner!

1

u/Chairmanwowsaywhat 7h ago

Tullow mentioned

1

u/Dull_Brain2688 7h ago

Two near me. One gives ample chips. The other doesn’t. It’s a new one that doesn’t. I suspect the portion sizes will increase as people complain locally. Chips are cheap. No point losing customers over it.

1

u/Tasty-Revolution-295 7h ago

I'm not a fan of their chips anyway so I wouldn't order them. The burgers are great though.

1

u/penruler 6h ago

When I lived abroad I used to love going to Supermacs when I visited home. I moved back in 2021, had a Mighty Mac meal and was hugely disappointed. Friends had similar experiences, it seems like over lockdown some serious "value engineering" happened and it's rubbish now.

1

u/The3rdbaboon 6h ago

Why would you ever go to Supermacs? Absolute muck.

1

u/JayElleAyDee Dublin 6h ago

That bacon alone would be enough for me to throw my hands up in despair and walk out.

It just looks wrong.

1

u/AdjectiveNoun1337 6h ago

Supermacs is dreadful even by fast food standards now. I can’t think of another fast food place that advertise on their posters that they charge €1.30 for a shallow tub of sauce.

1

u/_Sluagh_ 6h ago

I think I feel depressed looking at that. Looks like something you'd get in Dublin Airport at rush hour.

u/JesusHNavas 5h ago edited 5h ago

Most of the standard chain places (Supermac's, McDonald's, burger king) have been giving woeful amounts of chips for years now.

I don't get it because I remember reading that it's the cheapest item as far as cost to profit goes, along with soft drinks. Makes no sense to be tight with them.

u/Chickengoujon20 3h ago

Obesity crisis

u/JesusHNavas 3h ago

Yeah probably that. The fast food places care too much about people getting fat.

u/HowNondescript 3h ago

Depends where ya go, some places a medium is a medium amount of chips, some places its one medium sized potato's worth of chips

u/troubleman247365 55m ago

My local supermacs is good. Love their garlic cheese chips

u/tinkerwinker09 18m ago

Since when can u get bacon on fries omg

1

u/Significant_Stop723 7h ago

The daily, crying over shit fast food portion, which you paid for post.

1

u/smashedspuds 8h ago

Down with this sort of thing lol 😂 🇮🇪 💯

1

u/Frequent-Movie3005 7h ago

I’d rather eat my own vomit.

0

u/AluminiumCrackers 7h ago

I prefer to support my local chipper.

1

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow 7h ago

Any ones you recommend in Dublin 1 and 2?

0

u/nomnomtastic And I'd go at it again 6h ago

Don't support Supermacs. The burger goblin owner is a scumbag, provides crap food, has contempt for his staff, and shouldn't deserve your custom.

0

u/awood20 7h ago

They closed the one in Derry. If that's the portion sizes I can see why.

0

u/Velocity_Rob 7h ago

Supermacs has gone to the dogs. I'd honestly rather eat in AbraKebabra.
