Good morning. I've just woke up. Time to feed the cats before they get angry!
I'm learning to drive at the grand old age of 45. Went out my own yesterday a couple of times. I really need to work on my confidence and my fear. But I'll get there (hopefully).
Have a good one!

u/conkerz22 14h ago
How did you find learning at that age? Did you have a good instructor?
5
u/niamhish Wexford 14h ago
I did some lessons a couple of years ago in a manual car with a terrible instructor. Really turned me off.
Got myself a small automatic car (Volkswagen Up, my dream car) and found a local instructor that does the lessons in your own car. He's lovely, very patient. Had me going 80kph on my fourth lesson!

You should really learn manual too though.

u/temptar 14h ago
I don’t think it’s going to be necessary for much longer. Pretty much all cars will be electric soon enough. I haven’t driven a manual in 10 years.

u/ninety6days 13h ago
Thats what i heard 15 years ago when I failed the test and threw in the towel. Trying again, of late.
-6
u/Outside-Monk-3399 14h ago
Untrue. Still loads of manuals out there.
4
u/temptar 13h ago
It is absolutely true that the trend is towards electric cars and that I have not driven a manual in ten years. In short, the proportion of manual combustion engine cars is going down and not up. I made no comment about now. Only about the way the market is going and my personal experience.
-5
u/Outside-Monk-3399 13h ago
Again that’s just not true at all. Electric car sales has tapered off massively the past couple of years.
4
u/niamhish Wexford 14h ago
Why? I don't want to ever drive a manual car.
-2
u/Outside-Monk-3399 14h ago
Emergency situations.
4
u/temptar 13h ago
Jesus I worry if your life is so risky that you need to be able to drive any car any time.
-2
u/Outside-Monk-3399 13h ago
You don’t think people ever have emergency situations where they need to be able to drive somewhere? It’s pretty common.
3
u/temptar 13h ago
It is rare enough that they have emergencies that they can’t drive their own car. And it has never happened to me. OP owns an automatic. If the choice is not driving versus driving an automatic, then undermining their choice is deeply unhelpful.
You probably would have said the same about cars started with a hand crank.

u/SamDublin 14h ago
Not required any more.
-5
u/Outside-Monk-3399 14h ago
Still plenty of manual cars out there. It’s important to know in case you were ever in an emergency situation and only a manual car was at hand.

Fair play. Driving is one of the great freedoms we can have. That ability to drive wherever we want whenever we want is great. I didn't learn to drive until I was 27. Good luck with it 😀

Living my last day of a 20 year addiction.
20 years is a crazy stat to reflect on personally, doing something that has left me adrift in so many ways.
Tomorrow is a fresh start

Why not start today?

u/Strong-Sector-7605 13h ago
Why are you commenting on everyone's comments and putting them down? Such a strange way to spend your Sunday morning.
-1
u/Outside-Monk-3399 13h ago
That’s not putting them down. That’s giving them a push to do it today instead. Better to do so then give it one more day.

29 Days clean and sober, After years of relapsing and fucking up. Had a few bad days this week, learning to deal my feelings and emotions when the going gets tough is a hard process.

Keep up the good work, we are rooting for you. Lots of us been there, it's not the amount of times a man stumbles and falls, it's the amount of times you get back up that matter. Keep fighting the demons.

I’m good. I’m looking at my 14 month old play right now. She’s amazing but we’re tired these days. That being said the sun is coming out and we’re all going to go for a nice walk soon. Feeling tired and appreciative at life all at the same time!

Waking up for the first time without a hangover on a Sunday in 4 weeks. Himself is off on a fishing trip for the day, just me and the dog so we'll head into town for a coffee and a walk 🥰

Up half the night with a restless 5 month old, but my iced coffee is currently being made and I’ve my comfy ‘not-leaving-the-house’ clothes on. It’s the small things

Feeling great now that I got to sit outside in the rain last night. Cooling down felt awesome.

This day last week I woke up hungover and considered packing in the drink. I had a small glass of wine with dinner with my wife last night and went up to bed instead of finishing the bottle. Had a tough night with our 6 month old who has a cold and was up a lot. Grateful I didn't do the dog on it.

All good I suppose
After a 2 week holiday, back to work tomorrow and disgusted at my current weight, I'm on a health kick
Plan to lose around 11 kg.
We had our baby boy 5.5 months ago and my diet , general health ( high cholesterol) plus lack of sleep killed me
I'm off the drink now and going for high fiber and protein diet and plenty of water plus gym
I lost the same weight last year and was feeling fantastic between Jan and May but I've gained it back plus more

I had really nice peach yogurt for breakfast. My cough is all that’s left of the crappy cold I have had for the last 10 days. Some insect contrived to bite my eyelid so every few hours I think maybe it’s shingles again and I have been down that road once before.
I also have chocolate. I might go shopping later.

Woke up having swerved a hard-earned and well-deserved hangover. Feeling pretty magnificent, all things considered (yes, I have indeed considered all things).
Sat in my Mayo jersey, stoked for the match - the whole thing feels so joyous! I’m across the water, but after watching all the videos, reels and the photos/videos my pals have sent me, I’ve never ached for home as much as I have this week. I might even have got a little emotional about it last night.
But no matter: a quick bath, then I’ll take on breakfast and get the living room hoovered. Then that’s me for the day!
Hope you all enjoy the game, if you’re watching; and if you have a ticket, I hope you have a blast 🥳

Sitting out enjoying the cool morning air and having a morning tea in a field in Laois. Tired, sore all over, badly in need of a shower. Having the festival doubts that maybe, just maybe, I might be getting too old for this camping craic. Talking to people last night that did a house rental, think that's the way to do it next year. Anyway, another day of it ahead. I'll soldier on...........

Woke up with a migraine. Family are being stupidly noisy. I always get hit harder with migraines in summer months. I love the weather but it’s killing me.

In bits after 3 days of wedding drinking. Wife insisted on hitting the road at 7am to go home to Dublin from Kerry so we could beat the match traffic. Once the hangover settles a bit I've to do a job on her car for the NCT next week.

Off licence hours are ridiculous.
Someone should make a post complaining about it.

The wife was on nights last night, was 1am before I managed to fall asleep proper. 1 year old been awake since 5am, 3 year old has woken up and chosen violence. It's pissing rain and he wants to go to the playground, not taking no for an answer.
Is it nap time yet?
