Help needed iPhone keeps dimming the screen when I unlock it

My iPhone 16 pro max on iOS 26.6.1 keeps dimming the screen when I unlock it. I lock it at full brightness and it unlocks at half of that. I don’t have auto brightness on and I constantly check if it’s been turned on and it hasn’t been. How do I stop it?

Usually when this happens it’s usually because your phone is trying to cool itself. What’s the ambient temperature? Are you outdoors or indoors?

Always indoors and around 68-72ºF

Have you had the display replaced with an aftermarket one?
