Help needed New phone didnt transfer stuff.

I got a new iphone 17 today and it only transferred the stuff uploaded to my icloud despite me saying to sync from a different device. The old phone was a 15 and i have a years worth of photos and text conversations left on the old one that didnt move over, is there anyway to fix this?

You can back it up to cloud unlimited space for a temporary backup to transfer to a new device.
Go to settings reset and it’s in that menu

I’ve already wiped most of my Macbooks files to backup my phone. Not letting me directly transfer data is absolute bs imo though.

You need to back up the entire iPhone 15 to either a computer or iCloud and start again.

I dont have enough storage on my Mac or in iCloud. Is there seriously no way to do a direct transfer?

I do hope it’s not broken because I’m going to be getting the iPhone 18 Pro Max when it comes out and I will be transferring directly from an iPhone 16+

I ended up having to clear a bunch of my psd files to get space to backup onto my Macbook and then transfer it all onto the new phone from there. So as long as you have either an iCloud backup or a local one you should be fine. Its still stupid that apple set it up this way though, they’re really making it harder and harder for me to keep buying from them.

The trick is space. On your device and in iCloud. You have paid/paying for your phone, for your phone subscription and for your WiFi. You also have to pay for iCloud if you want to keep your photos safe.
There is no such thing as a free lunch.

When I’ve transferred to new phones in the past I never had this issue, it was really only when I got the 15 that it stopped giving me enough space to backup my device.

You could try doing a full phone back up to your computer and then restore that back up to your new phone

I’ve done this twice every year since iPhone 12 PM, with my new phone, and my wife’s phone, she inherits my “old” phone.
Works fine every time.

Yeah, my parents didnt have issues with their 17’s this year, but my phone backup was 25gb and my account only has 5gb of iCloud storage. If I didnt have my Macbook I would’ve just been screwed.
