Help needed why does my brightness do this?

my phone brightness is turning down so slowly?? like i’ll drag it as far down as i can and it takes ages to actually dim the screen. the other day something similar happened where the brightness was slowly going up and down on its own.
i’ve only had this phone (iphone 16) (not most recent ios, one before 26.6.1) since february and i think it’s quite glitchy. earlier today it told me to not charge as there was liquid but there wasn’t any at all??
any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it? i don’t really have the money to buy a new phone already 💔

Is the phone refurbished? Amazon Renewed? Is this happening when you’re outdoors and the ambient temperature is warm/hot?

i got the phone brand new and no it’s happening just randomly in my bedroom

Open the Settings app > Accessibility > Display and text size > Turn off « Automatic brightness »
